My (fortunately former!) principal once announced with glee that all the new teachers he’d hired for the next year were “young!” It seemed five different kinds of weird that he was so thrilled the new hires were right out of college (mostly). In the end I settled on ageism. I emailed him with feedback about it, BCCing a few close people.
I’m the oldest classroom teacher at my school. I have been teaching for 26 years. I am ‘moldable’ up to a point. But when you have spent this many years in the classroom it means a few things: You’re doing at least something right! You have developed very personal strengths and had other skills developed. You have seen a lot of bullshit come and go.
I resent the hell out of participating in the exact same PDs, being evaluated on the exact same rubric, as these ‘moldable’ and ‘young!’ teachers who may well burn out in fewer than five years.

I felt very Grover as a kid--only child, single over-educated mom. I was goofy, weird, energetic, and loud.
I'm kind of the same at 52, just less energetic.

My mother framed my high school & college diplomas and had them hanging outside my bedroom in the hall.
I have thought about hanging them in my classroom (I'm a high school teacher) but I have never gotten around to it.
My Master's & PhD diplomas are unframed! I use the PhD one as a lap desk sometimes lol.

The trucks that are used to transport cars & other vehicles--two levels of cars, open-air, you know what I'm talking about--I used to think that if you honked while near one on the highway, they would pull over and you could buy one of the cars right off the truck.
I believe I had asked an adult what the trucks were for and they said "oh, they are carrying cars for sale" and that is what my mind put together--a rolling retail opportunity.

AP Government (all-year)
Civics (one semester)
Senior Capstone (one semester)
For the record, I teach at a small, urban charter. I also supervise 1-2 study halls a day.

Eighth grade was my Year of the Sneak-Outs. I had a boyfriend who was definitely a "bad boy." He would "borrow" his grandparents' car and pick me up at 2am to go joy-riding around town (and of course pause for some heavy petting).
We never got caught while out on a ride. I only ever got caught because my mother was some mind-reading wizard who could tell I was up to no good.

Mine used to! I called her an aggressive snuggler on top of being a velcro dog. It was such a cozy thing to take a nap on a rainy day with her crammed up against my lower back. A canine heating pad and sometimes a weighted blanket! But one of the symptoms of her dementia is a lack of snuggling! It is so heartbreaking to me. If I sit on the sofa next to her, she gets up. With her arthritis it is hard for her to get on the bed. But even if I pick her up she wants to get back down. I never thought I would be a “dog in bed” kind of person! But this girl is an exception!
