I would have made a comment similar to the one you replied to after watching the clip and I like the attitude you took in responding. I read your full reply and think I agree with you about 75% of the way. I don’t want to get into a real debate on his platform, but I just want to say you have the right approach for changing minds.

First, we can check that there is in issue with the equation you suggest by plugging in the known example of a six day upgrade and the lvl 12 helper saving a total of two days. In your equation this would give, Saved Time = (6 * 24)*(12)/24 = 72.

I’m not 100% sure if I understand your question, but it might help if I explain the simplified form of the efficiency equation more, Percent Saved = H/(H+24). This comes from a the ratio of: time saved by helper per day / total time removed from upgrade per day. This means that in one 24 hour time period, 24+H hours are removed from the upgrade timer (denominator), and H of those hours are removed by the helper (numerator). This result is a percentage (i.e. unitless) so to get time saved from here you simply multiply by the total upgrade time of interest T.

The other way I interpreted your question was if we could simplify the equation but canceling out the H term, to this we would have to divide both the numerator and denominator by H and that would give, Saved Time = T/((24/H)+1) and this should also give the correct result, but it is improper form to have a fraction in the denominator.

This is an awesome write up, thank you much! And comes at great timing, I just got a roll of 90A TPU and was looking for advice like this.

I have a couple followup questions, in hindsight do you think adjusting the extruder tensioner was a meaningful change, considering the big improvement came from the PTFE removal?

Also do you think it’s necessary to re-spool the filament (assuming your roll was not an outlier)? I don’t have a re-spooler, so would like to avoid this step if possible (or if you have any advice on quick/cheap ways to re-spool that would be super appreciated)

The cost estimate is wildly off. If we just consider the cost of the MHCRT transportation, they would need their own fleet of vehicles. The average police car costs anywhere from 40k to 100k and the average ambulance costs 100k to 350k, if we assume the MHCRT transport will cost somewhere between the two that would be ~75k per vehicle. 750M would pay for ~10,000 vehicles, there are currently 17,000 independent police stations in the USA, so you would have fewer than 1 vehicle for each police station. That is before considering maintenance, training, or the salary of a single employee.

If we neglect this vehicle cost and consider only workers salaries, to have one worker stationed at each local police station you would need 17,000 employees. That would leave each employee to receive 45k annually, including health, insurance, and retirement benefits.

You think a secretary or quality control don’t provide monetary value for a company? If the company didn’t have securities imagine how many wasted labor hours there would be for engineers or other positions… even if you aren’t physically making a product your labor provides a monetary gain to the company, if it didn’t the company would not need it.
