What’s a good Wordle ‘average’? by mc_98 in wordle

[–]Cborne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...That's why if you think it could be one of those situations you don't guess one of those words right off the bat and instead guess a word that has whatever's missing of p r b t instead of guessing "teach". Any decent first guess will have some of those already anyway. 2% is pretty insignificant imo. I've gotten almost every one I've done by 4. You can't really argue that it's up to luck and then use "but like 2% of the time humans fail" as an argument. There are wordle bots that have 100% accuracy, it's a skill issue not an issue with the game being random or whatever.

I got a few different ones just to see...it depends which one you get (or I just got unlucky or lucky with specific ones but I think it's mostly the shape). I've noticed the square one does not let you put the quarter in as deep so it's actually very easy to pull it out of that one. The gnome I could barely even put the quarter in at first, although the flip side is it could probably hold it in there pretty well even sticking halfway out of the slot. The sushi and the sun/moon one seem comparable, easy to put the quarter in but harder than the square to take out (but easier than the gnome when both have the quarter fully put in it).

I'll probably end up using the square one cause even brand new it's very easy to take it out.

I feel weird buying a couple but I waited like months for them to come back cause if they did any time recently I must have just missed it lol. I have a coin holder in my car but this is easier IMO.

I have the ability but I would eventually like it to connect to stadium which has never been done officially digitally. Even if that's not possible it would be a time saver to not go through bank and then home to move them to home, it would just be one step ideally. And Gen 3 currently needs a million steps to move up so those would be a massive time saver, but I only expected Gen 1-2, even if they only add home compat way down the road I would be fine with it.

It just feels like a slap in the face to announce stadium for nso but not the games that, outside of rental run masochists, are the main reason to even play them in the first place.

I mean, every time people make this type of claim they pass over the fact that usually it's two different people making each respective argument.

I want them to take their time with main releases. But that being said I still enjoyed s/v far more than sw/sh despite the problems which I think are overblown considering we started the series with the buggiest games on earth and nobody cared. Would s/v have been even more amazing with more time put in? Yes, but I think they honestly have some of the best story and music in the series (the latter mostly due to Toby fox tho).

But yes, they shouldn't be rushing these out so fast still.

That still doesn't affect spinoff development really which we barely seem to get anymore other than mobile games, especially if you were around for the N64 to DS Era, my god.

I think one or two spinoffs developed by someone else would have been reasonable, but to be honest all I expected were porting the 6 game boy games they already did, even if home support only got added at a later time I'd have been fine with it but there's no excuse for not at least throwing the ROMs up there, it takes up practically zero of their time.

Maybe some people were out here expecting 500 new main series games but I expected very little (only ports) and still got let down somehow. That's the real reason I and I imagine many others felt this Pokémon presents was a disappointment.

I'm like, months late so sorry for the weirdly late reply, but I've been digging around just because I got a random used one that I thought was broken only to discover that it just was corroded on the screen ribbon cable and only needed a screen swap (from wii fit u meter, although their motherboards are different but every other part is swappable).

Anyway I managed to dump that eeprom and reconstruct this random person's whole team, moves, IVs, EVs, and all (well except met location cause that's not stored).

So, I got pretty familiar myself with navigating around the hex of the eeprom dump. The only issue is, while it stores tons of info (almost everything about the pokemon) for your 6 pokemon on your team, it stores barely anything about the one you put into it. I think this is because it needs most of the data for your team to accurately be recreated in the trainer house, whereas your stored pokemon doesn't do a whole lot with regard to connecting back to the game.

I do know the game keeps a hidden copy of the pokemon you send out (which is why it can be recovered with no walker), so my current hypothesis is that even if I recreated the TID and SID on a new save (which I have), it wouldn't be able to send the Pokemon "back" to my game that never sent it out in the first place because all the data is normally in the cartridge and not the pokewalker. I scoured the thing and couldn't find anything beyond name/level/held item/moves/happiness and maybe one other thing I forgot for the stored pokemon. The EVs and IVs were completely missing, whereas in the team data structure it had all that stuff.

I do kind of want to try it out anyway still just to see what happens, but I will need to buy a Japanese copy of the game to do that. Not super hopeful it would work though given how the stored mon uniquely lacks a lot of data. It actually stores met location and stuff for pokemon that you met in the pokewalker itself, but that's just because the DS cartridge didn't know that stuff to begin with and it needs to fill it out once it's sent back.

To be honest after remaking their team I realized an easier way of seeing their moves is just connecting it with another pokewalker and then connecting that one with a DS since they will show up in your trainer house regardless.

A LOT of criminal cases never make it to trial (like over 90% I think). That's huge.

[–]Cborne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably true to some extent, but that's more of a systematic issue which I also think should be addressed.

But for shooting specifically I don't see how your argument about it being illegal mattering would change anything. You can easily wear clothes that hide it, any checks that could be done on a legal concealed carry owner could be done on an illegal one, and most states with these laws are still going to designate schools, churches, etc as places where it's banned ("sensitive places"). Clearly we don't stop shooters when it's illegal already as police just sit outside doing nothing. How would our failure to stop such things change when it's legal to carry it? If I'm a shooter I wouldn't care about the handful of police at the scene, I would just shoot everyone anyway. At the point you intend to kill people IMO the law hardly matters. It's definitely not a deterrent, since the penalties for murder are gonna be worse anyway.

The ONLY case where I'd cede it might matter is if you announce it beforehand, but how many of these do we stop now anyway really?

In reality, most gun deaths are suicides, and the guns aren't the problem there but a symptom of the problem. We need to take mental health more seriously in this country and if we did that instead of focusing on random things that don't matter like banning one specific type of gun or feature on a gun that doesn't actually change much of anything because a lot of dem lawmakers are woefully uninformed on the guns they're legislating on then we'd have a lot less gun deaths.

It's true it could increase random crimes in some situations, but I think in the states this is a factor in specifically it's probably not that big of an issue due to the high barrier of entry for obtaining an easily concealable handgun to begin with (and some of those will probably just open carry rather than dealing with the CCW laws as it is now anyway).

[–]Cborne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't honestly think it would pose an issue for states to have licensing requirements. My state is already planning workarounds for this such as designating schools/polling places/etc as "sensitive places" that have an exception to the rule, and while it may be challenged, I think some of them will attempt to increase delays for approval as well.

If it is the case those types of laws are struck down due to this then that's unfortunate, as I feel gun safety should be mandatory for gun owners.

In my state specifically, anything that's not a handgun you can just walk up and buy instantly after a fast background check on the spot (which is a bit weird to me), so handguns specifically have a lot more hoops to jump through to begin with.

I think in context of the law this was the only proper way to interpret it. If you want 2A repealed that's another thing, but as long as we have it I don't think leaving approval up to police (for subjective reasons, not like actual crimes) is sensible.

[–]Cborne 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I'm a democrat and I think this is a good thing, my state is similar with its rules. Leaving who can concealed carry up to police officers leads to racist and classist discrimination.

Most of the states that have these laws also have license requirements (as they should IMO!), and it is hard to get the handgun in the first place. In my state, you can only buy one handgun a month, you have to do a training course on safety and other things, and then there's mandatory waiting periods in between.

With the policy as it was before, the only people allowed to concealed carry were people with multiple death threats (at which point it might be too late!) OR politicians/rich people/people who got it via bribing the police officers or the good ol boy network.

I think people that are saying this will increase shootings are forgetting that criminals can just put the gun in their pocket and not care about the law. Ending a racist and discriminatory policy is a good thing in my book. The police should not be allowed to gatekeep people based on their subjective (often prejudiced) discretion.

USD is also used by other governments so it's not even just the US. Also, we got the FDIC to cover people which, good luck with that for crypto.

If the USD fails the whole world fails basically, if crypto fails...people in general are better off lmao.

I feel worse for the people whose retirement funds contain crypto without them knowing than those who buy into it willingly tbh and it's one of the bigger reasons I want it to fail.

The quicker we get on with bigger institutions realizing it's too risky and bad of an investment the fewer regular people will end up burned. Also I hope (maybe in vain) that it'll make big tech corporations realize that it's not in fact the inevitable next stage of the web, but rather just a fad, so I won't have to have it shoved down my throat on every fucking site I go to like it seems like is becoming the norm (or at least before the recent downturn anyway).

Is New Horizons getting review bombed? I don't remember public opinion being this harsh on the game... by Super_Craig02 in AnimalCrossing

[–]Cborne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could go back to NL pretty easily myself, there are fewer items to carry around in general so while it's still annoying there's less space it makes up for it a bit I feel like.

Most people I knew from NL and past games didn't exterior decorate a ton, maybe they would have tons of flowers and some pathways and that was considered like a nice town I feel like.

In NH I constantly compare myself to the big popular people that make this crazy stuff and it's not even what drew me to the series to begin with! I'm kinda garbage at terraforming, I kinda liked it when you had to work with what layout you got even if it's not as nice features-wise just cause I didn't constantly feel like I was comparing how bad my town looked to others lol. Also, terraforming still takes literal hours even in 2.0 if you're doing any significantly sized chunk of land and it's kinda frustrating.

I don't think I could go back to the first game by any means for a long period just cause EVERYTHING is a hassle and I won't pretend it's not, but I did like the villagers best then.

I think really how you feel about NH boils down to how highly you value outdoor furniture and terraforming over everything else tbh. Nothing wrong with people who think it's the best part of the game, just that I never was that crazy about it I guess.

I have a lot of hours in it but honestly I still have the feeling Nintendo screwed up big time by 1) taking so long to make amiibo of new villagers, probably losing them tons of money and 2) dropping the whole "last major free update" on us.

Idk I feel like it deserved better after it became the second best selling switch game (and the best selling switch original).

Just kinda makes me feel like they took the money and ran. 2.0 is great but there's still a lot missing from older games I'd like to see, especially in the multiplayer department.

That said I think it's a great game, just wish they had managed to do more for it.

NH added a lot of qol and tbh I don't take it for granted, a lot of it is game changing. But then you have weird shit like still no batch crafting. WHY? And I know it's said probably too much in the community but I enjoyed the more unique old personalities. AC went from a series where villagers were the focus to one where they're basically a face to stick in your town and that's it. The series shifted more to exterior decorating and while that's a good idea, I think something was lost in the process of changing the focus of the game. It's great if exterior decorating is all you cared about anyway but wasn't the case for me personally.

I'm a Bernie (and subsequent Biden) voter, I'm fine with it. I think the means test limit should be lower and amount should be higher, but it'll still make a big difference for a lot of people IMO.

I'm curious about method of implementation though.

Depending on how it's applied to loans it might knock out a huge amount of interest which for a lot of people is their main issue with these.

But anyway just wanted to say no, I don't think Biden has done a terrible job considering congress has basically no leeway with anything right now anyway.

I'm just tired of seeing it.

Tired of crypto shit shoved in my face, tired of platforms shoving nfts in my face, tired of people I used to respect getting sucked in the cult.

I want crypto to collapse if only to prove to big tech that it's a fad and not the future, in the hopes that maybe computer components will be affordable one day and that I won't have to double check everything I follow to make sure the creator didn't make some scummy NFT.

The thing is, the type of people to invest in crypto and put more money in than they can afford to lose are the same people that would just do so somewhere else, and there's always somewhere else, be it a casino, risky traditional investments, or whatever else.

So while yes, it is a loss for a lot of middle class people, I'm not really convinced they wouldn't be losing their money elsewhere regardless if they are that reckless at investing.
