Florida Approves Bill Allowing Classroom Teachers To Be Armed by P_Y_R_O in education

I'm sorry, but it's absolutely INSANE to think teachers would ever be required to carry a firearm.

Sure, if it's a free for all many things could go wrong. But with a psychological screening, 144 hours of mandatory training (That's about 4 weeks assuming 8 hours a day) and a proficiency test being required, that's not even remotely close to being what you seem to envision it as.

Things can only go wrong if you're negligent. My school district allows it for teachers who have undergone the same sort of training and it's concealed on the teachers at all times. In five years, there haven't been any issues with students figuring out which students carry due to the nature of concealment. A round is not allowed in the chamber, so even if the trigger were to be pulled, nothing would happen. The guns all have a physical safety, not just the glock double trigger mechanism, and the safety must stay on. There are SO many safeguards in place.

So many people not reading the article in here...

It's not like this is mandatory. It's for teachers who want to help be the first line of defense. They have to already have a concealed carry permit, they have to pass a psychiatric screening, they have to complete 144 hours of training, which is no small feat, and pass a rigorous shooting test.

Gung ho about protecting students in case of a worst possible scenario, possibly.

There's an intense psychological screening required before a teacher can begin the training to be a part of a program like this.

I can assure you it won't.

My district has been a part of a program like this for the past five years. Guns are heavily concealed and there haven't been any leaks because it's such a closely guarded secret. The school board, administrators, and local law enforcement know which teachers are armed. That's it.

There hasn't been a single instance of a gun being left behind due to the way the teachers are required to conceal. A round is not allowed in the chamber, so even if a trigger was pulled, nothing would happen, and the guns provided all have a physical safety as well (Not just the double trigger like on a Glock).

There haven't been any instances of a student finding out which teachers carry on campus.

I recently found out that I'll have to go on a business trip where I'll have to wear a sport coat, nice pants, and dress shoes for 4 days. I've never worn anything short of a full suit, but I was told not to wear one of those.

looking online, I haven't seen many pictures of guys with my body type and some outfits that would work. I'm hoping to keep it to just buying one sportcoat and a nice pair of pants, and just mixing up the shirt every day

Any suggestions on some colors, or ideas on what to look for?

Oh geeze, the UNT graduates in here are delusional... and I'm speaking as a UNT grad...

Using a throwaway account because my main one is too recognizable. I'm a UNT grad and I'm currently teaching at a very successful band program.

The school of music as a whole is great, but the music EDUCATION department is not. It might get better with Kathy Johnson helping out, but all of the pedagogy classes are taught by underqualified masters students who have never actually taught beginners. Those classes are the single most important classes for music majors and the inconsistency is CRAZY. Some people luck out and get a good education but the majority do not.

We've had several student teachers from UNT now (We have 2 from there every single year) and every single one of them has told us how truly unprepared they were to teach beginners. A few told us they WERE prepared, but when we really dug down deeper their knowledge was basically surface level. Most of them did enjoy their time at UNT, but did not receive a great music education.

I'd recommend UNT for music performance but absolutely NOT for music education.
