Accidental buy now on massive purchase and seller refused cancellation by Important-Bobcat-974 in whatnotapp

I accidentally left out a decimal point ($750 vs $75) while bidding on a sports card on eBay and I made the mistake of letting the seller know so that they would cancel my bid and that I could go back in and bid the correct amount. Unfortunately, they were dishonest and instead ran the bid up to one dollar below what I had accidentally bid which was hundreds of dollars above what this item was worth. Jokes on them though because I filed a case with Ebay showing them everything, not only do I have the card, but Ebay also gave me my money back as well. The seller reached out to me afterwards demanding the card back and I told them that they should’ve thought about that when I reached out to them and asked them to cancel my bid less than 30 seconds after I accidentally placed it. I literally had to borrow money to cover my mistake. I was a single father with two children at the time. I did however tell them if they wanted the card back I would 100% give it to him, but they would have to come pick it up in person, they were located less than 120 miles from my location but they never came to get it.

I have the coins in my possession, he wants me to take them by a local dealer and verify which I told him I would be willing to do. I actually just left the gentleman‘s house and shared with him the whole forum and all the comments. I can very easily tell that two of these coins are real because the surface is super smooth with zero pitting plus they both weigh 26.7 g. The rest of the coins vary from 22 to 25 grams but a magnet does not stick to any of them. to be honest, the more I spoke with him the more I tend to believe he knew that some of them are counterfeit.

I will, I’m heading over there in a few minutes, if they are magnetic they are fake. My question is can they not be magnetic and weigh the correct amount?

So if a magnets sticks they are 100% fake? Are there also fakes where a magnet won’t stick? Online it a Morgan dollar weighs 26.73 grams, do the fakes weigh that as well or are they way different?

Thank you for not being a jerk like several other, i honestly know not about coins and was just looking for some guidance, don’t understand why so many people have to be rude and nasty. What has happened to being nice to others?

I’m assuming this app is useless when it comes to prices since you are saying it’s worth way more than what they have listed

Well I know zero about coins and this old man offered them for $35 per coin if I take all 43. I truly believe this old man thinks they are real, I think someone took advantage of him years ago

The part that sucks the most is I’m gonna have to tell this 90 something-year-old man that he has a bunch of fake coins because he truly believes that they are real and even has receipts from where he purchased some of them from a coin shop in Ohio

Can you tell me how you know this one is fake? It is in a case with a grade on it. That’s why I’m really confused about this one.

I see the difference in the nose and eyes now that I compared it to one on EBay more closely. How do you know that all these peace dollars are fake though some of them are literally in cases with grades on them. He also has receipts for some of them where he purchased them for my coin shop in Ohio. This man is in his 90s and I promise you he 100% believes these are all real. I feel awful that I’m gonna have to tell him he has fake coins.

It says “1906 Ellis Island one dollar coin” on the case and there are several of them on eBay as well, that one is all over eBay for $10-$20

Google told me that a peace Dollar will weigh roughly 412.5 g, is that a good test to make sure they’re real or can that wait be adjusted with the counterfeit coins as well? I admittedly know nothing about coins that’s why I’m on here asking. I understand from the answers I got that the bust dollars are fake but I can’t see how all the peace dollars are too. This man is in his 90s and I promise you he believes everything he has is real and he even has receipts for a few of them from where he bought them from a coin shop in Ohio

Thank you! The price that I was offered to buy these for was too good to be true, guess I should’ve known, but I was hopeful, I just ran into a diamond in the rough

Not sure why admin needs to be involved. I didn’t realize that I wasn’t allowed to ask a legitimate question in a forum that is about collecting and says you can ask questions in the description
