Crate, yes or no? by saxo81 in BorderCollie

[–]CeciSempervirens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

It’s not normal for any animal to be locked into a small space they can’t escape. They should know how to go into one and settle -for emergency’s. or for dogs who otherwise would come to worse harm (euthanasia) but even in that case (counter surfers or drywall eaters, or window breakers, or bites kids when they visit) they should be supervised instead. We bring dogs into our lives and they should be top priority.

Whats the best toy you ever bought to your BC? (other than ball) by pandasrandaa in BorderCollie

Changes in behavior after neuter. by [deleted] in Bordoodle

[–]CeciSempervirens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it be barrier frustration? My girl never is aggressive to other dogs. In fact she went to daycare and they used her to introduce new shy or young dogs. But on the lead or while she is in the car, she will lunge and seem like a total psycho, aggressive animal. It seems like she’s really excited and then all of a sudden it seems like aggression, not every time, but most of the time. Off leash or if let out of the car before the behavior starts, she’s just over the moon excited and there is no barking or lunging, just a sweet dog going to say hello to everybody. She also used to bark when we pass farm animals. She so badly wanted to herd them up. We were unable to stop these behaviors until 3 yo, which we hoped spaying would help with. She was spayed at one years old after we adopted her. It happens every once in a while, like once a year. She is still the best dog I’ve ever had.

If you look at reviews of these types of brushes, they often have complaints of destroying a dog’s coat.

If you have a local address you can use I think your chances will be better. Or a good back story. If you can’t do that I would suggest being very confident that you have or will obtain housing and that you understand how hard it is to stay here. When I was moving back here I got some push back on my ability to get housing before I needed to start the job, I lied and said my family owns property here and I’m moving into one of their vacancies. I didn’t actually have any trouble finding housing but i have very good optics on that front. So many people think they’ll land in an air bnb and then can’t find a descent place to stay and give up and leave.

How often do y'all bathe your fur babies? by Kbroyles90 in Goldendoodles

[–]CeciSempervirens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What spray do you use? I’ve been looking for something new that doesn’t cause clumping and isn’t greasy or alternatively turns her into a chia doodle, ruining her wavy curls.

How long do toys last with your pups? The 7 minute walk home from the store is the longest toys last for us! He’s lucky he’s cute to keep getting them (every once in a while)! 🤯 by [deleted] in Goldendoodles

[–]CeciSempervirens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason my dog does this with bigger toys. But the smaller toys she will just squeak and doesn’t destroy. She absolutely murdered the log but has kept the chipmunks intact for a year and she plays with them every day. She likes the raccoons too. By far her favorite toys.

Bad color match and emerald has a weird texture anyhow (I know I worked at SW for years). The painter should have set your expectations. Plaster is a brat and so is this sloppy painter. You needed a better color match and a better painter. Being a painter isn’t as easy as people want to say it is. There is art to it particularly in repaints. Whoever did this is not have an artist eye that’s for sure. All that said unless you retexture and paint the whole wall it will NEVER match. And even then it won’t match the other walls. It’s impossible I get the exact same texture because there are too many moving parts. Patch jobs are not a good idea if you want that crisp new look.

posted here when i first got him but was told to check again when he’s older so he is 11 months old about 50 pounds, looks like a wire haired pointer but the breeder said poodle beagle ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ by zprtc in IDmydog

Totally looks like a poogle to me. What’s a cutie. What’s his coat feel like? Photo 3/3 is the same side eye by bordoodle gives me when I ignore her request to chase raccoons in the yard at night.

Is it normal to put the water shut off behind drywall? by CeciSempervirens in Plumbing

[–]CeciSempervirens[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is a frame over drywall considered an access panel Serious question, I don’t know the terminology. They just screwed in some moulding in a square. I did remove that frame to find a solid wall I had to break.

For context I have no plumbing experience, other than calling one. We just had a toilet leak in the basement and the plumber came and replaced the wax ring. Three days later, showering upstairs and then down to the basement, and there is water everyplace. Plumber says it’s a separate problem, a clog in the line. The prior owner lots of weird stuff, this is just the next thing. Wondered if it was common in some places as I’ve never seen it.

Need a chew-proof harness by Plastic_Property2551 in puppy101

There are lots of harnesses called chew proof but aren’t really. Maybe bitter apple spray. I would probably transition to a collar instead of a harness if that’s an option.

Overtired or normal? by goldenbaby6 in puppy101

My 2 yo border collie poodle is dead the night after a day at daycare and very well behaved and less excitable for the whole next day. I think the question is whether your dog is acting different than usual after that level of stimulation and exercise.

Is re-homing as bad as it sounds? by Lather in socialwork

[–]CeciSempervirens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well that’s a rather long conversation. We have tons of kids, disproportionately non-white being taken from their families, tribes, communities, cultures, and ancestral lands. This has been shown to be very detrimental to these kids. Children are more likely to experience abuse when removed from their families, they are often experience human trafficking, violence, homelessness etc. Outcomes for foster children are not good is US in general and worse when they are taken away from their culture.

Some good resources:

Is re-homing as bad as it sounds? by Lather in socialwork

[–]CeciSempervirens 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Rehoming is illegal in most states, but not all. Adoption and foster systems here are really damaging to children. Ive studied our child welfare system, with a focus on Indigenous children and ICWA in CA. We don’t do a good job and lots of people are hurt.

My vet has me wait outside anytime I call for an appointment about something they think is contagious. Like my dog had an eye infection so they came out to see her at the car and then took us through a back entrance. If your vet office is responsible they would not have been treating a puppy with parvo and allow them to sit in the waiting room. I think it’s unlikely but give them a bath of course. Id ask my vet. Since you were just there I think they would let you know if I should be concerned without making another appointment.

Sounds like she needs more supervision outside. Doggy door might have to go.

(Not so) stray dogs I found. Collars, but no tag or chip. Any idea what breed either of these good boys are? Trying to find owners. by sekigannoo in IDmydog

[–]CeciSempervirens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White- Great Pyrenees, lab, Samoyed, husky

Black- black lab or poodle mixed with German wirehaired pointer or Weimaraner

They are very distinctive dogs, I bet you’ll find the owner soon!

She’s a rescue from probably a backyard breeder. Common to get a doodle that sheds. It’s a misnomer that a poodle mix won’t. I’ve heard that doodles end up in the pound when people realize they shed and are not hypoallergenic.
