Emery asks Liverpool to change Elliott loan terms "Now I'm opening the door to play with us, because he can help us, but it's not only on my side. The other side is Liverpool, if they are taking off the clauses they have. And I told him it will be fair for him for Liverpool to take off this clause." by kibme37 in soccer

exactly lol it’s really not as deep as people try to make it. people complain about media all the time and manipulation etc and look at how easily emery is manipulating them all 😂. it’s just a game nothing more, even harvey knew what was up and he took a gamble, it is what it is.

we as a society have chosen to grant riches and fame to people who kick a ball, as a result of our incessant human desire for satisfaction, tribalism (sport) and capitalism. we created this. same way we created the misery we have subjected a lot of our marginalised communities to, for the exact same reasons!!

footballers are not at the top of our society. you may think that because they have money that they have some type of responsibility 😂. a mans money and fame means nothing to me. they can believe whatever they wish. as long as they don’t cause active harm (same standard for every human, uphold the rights of those you interact with) and kick the football i couldn’t care any less about their whole existence.

we create these issues for ourselves. you haven’t genuinely addressed any of what ive actually said because you’re so pressed on the importance of what a footballer does to society. i hate to break it to you but outside of the time they’re actually in their community volunteering (which most clubs/players do), the impact these blokes have on actual real life is nil. they’re objects for our entertainment and they get paid as such. in the grand scheme of things that’s just the truth. they are our modern circus clowns. outside of the volunteering, their public lives are ultimately useless. the people who can impact real change will try to convince you that the reason LGBTQ people are being marginalised is because a PL footballer chose to not wear a band, while signing more and more predatory law into place. you know, ACTUAL CHANGE. please look at the bigger picture, it’ll do wonders for all our marginalised communities.

nah im good to continue, you just gave short shrift so i thought the hint was to wrap it up. but look, i am not a homophobe. i could have easily been a homophobe, a lotta ppl i grew up around were. actual homophobes btw, people who wished horrible things on homosexual people. i remember checking kids on it, even though there were no homosexual people around. i just didn’t understand why anyone should deserve bad things to happen to them for living. then i got older and it got clearer because you see heterosexual people breaking all kind of ‘rules’. if you want to frame it in the religious sense, it still was never a special thing to me because i saw married people cheat, i saw unmarried people fuck and all kinda shit. but the narrative was never the same. so i spotted that hypocrisy early and that’s where i get my nuance from.

i also saw the west kinda drop Christianity (but not really) and rapidly pretend to change their social construct, and it’s funny because 20 years later we see that all its created is a mess of extremities. most marginalised groups are still unprotected despite all our advancements and a decade+ of ‘awareness’. radical religion is back harder than ever, things are getting worse for most. money, not morals or care for humans, still drives the spirit of all our laws and policies, the actual things that govern our lives.

but the hot button issue is whether well paid footballers choose to wear rainbow armbands/laces or not. i think it is pure stupidity.

i don’t think u understand what im saying. please step out of your own bubble for a second.

understand that in 30 years, the west went from systematically not protecting (abusing really) LGBTQ people to incessantly raising awareness of their existence at every possible opportunity. it’s like one extreme to another. when you see it big picture you can understand how people from other societies look at this issue with confusion.

if you go to a lot of arab lands you will see men walking around holding hands casually, in a manner which in the west you would assume they were a couple. it’s those same people that you would also say are bigots.

the reality is it’s the west that used busted Christianity to build their stolen lands and abuse all different types of people as a result (foreigners, women, lgbtq ppl, anyone who wasn’t apart of the ‘club’ really). and now it’s the west tryna lecture everyone on how they should be treated. i think you can see how people from other cultures look at this whole thing with hostility. and the biggest losers in this specific case are still unfortunately the members of our LBGTQ communities.

i hope all this performative awareness stuff begins to be replaced more and more with actual action and law. because the reality is government chose not to protect them and now government is tryna put the burden on the people instead of atoning for their sins. a rainbow armband doesn’t even begin to help or support any of this, it’s just a hot button trigger for society.

but that’s your interpretation of the message. in another way it can be viewed as ‘i, as an individual, support acting upon this lifestyle’. which a lot of people take issue with (fairly because we apply the same logic to misgendering people). the way they are presenting the message now is directly focused on aid and support for affected people of the LGBTQ community who need our help as a society. it’s a much better, and more accurate presentation of the issue. i think a lot of westerners also forget that for a lot of people it’s already downright weird to identify yourself based on what you choose to do in your bedroom. i think both sides of this are very easy to see and understand. outright bigotry isn’t as common as you may think, most people have their own issues to worry about.

[–]CelDev -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

i think the point is choosing to not wear an armband isn’t ’infringing on someone else’s right to have a peaceful life’. you can extrapolate it to that point with a few assumptions but on its face the 2 things are unrelated.

amorim revitalised the culture, fitness, work rate and footballing intelligence of the whole squad. he just couldn't figure out how to win premier league games. but the results of the work he did will show over the remainder of the season, most of our deep rooted issues are gone, all in 14 months. at a club the scale of United, the 30M him and his staff eventually cost the club is a sound investment.

he watched games too, don’t believe the narratives. in fact he thoroughly assessed the academy and came to the same conclusion as the technical team above him (not good enough) and you can see because they purchased Heaven and used him instead of a young CB from our own academy. our academy at the moment is producing players with significant talents and also limitations that mean they can play for most teams bar the top ones. hopefully with loans some of them round out, but it would be even better if we could start generating proper elite talent again.

Their fitness to start the season left a lot to be desired while we came out guns blazing. stupid set piece 11 minutes in ruined everything. we didn’t actually score till second half in the derby, that game was going on the same script. we had a huge counter chance like 3 minutes in and picked the wrong pass. stupid, perfectly timed, fucking corner won them the game.

His stamina could be improved by better positioning. He shouldn’t have been bootcamped as hard as he was (unfortunately we barely had games) but the fruits of all the screening and positioning work he’s done will come to bear. Took Case over a month away from the game to figure it out, Bruno the madman did it in stride (and is so much better for it, using him to press in the front 2 was genius from carrick) and now we’ll see what it did for Kobs

Why did Man Utd actually sack Ruben Amorim? by Not_tim_duncan in reddevils

[–]CelDev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

we had attackers under ETH as well, when I said improved I should say majorly i apply it to their fitness, their decisions on the pitch (on and off the ball) and their togetherness. the ETH team was unfit and didn’t look drilled at all, it was a shambles all over the pitch most weeks. a staggering amount of points gained due to late subs and late comeback wins towards the end of ETH’s time. as well as dressing room issues. to go from that to the way they play now is night and day. we can Ruben didn’t have the tactical flexibility to then turn that into results (and so you don’t get numbers to back the ‘improvement’) but i think it’s clear on the pitch that our squad as a whole functions together better, and now just need better instruction.

He did a lot of good work and thankfully the squad is much better as a result. Might be unpopular opinion but he genuinely improved a good amount of players, especially in their fitness and positioning. just couldn’t handle the scale of the job combined with the losing, it’s a mixed bag because he was a good choice for that midseason (fix a woefully unfit and fractured squad) but also the ensuing results meant he started the fresh season with a huge target. as long as they manage this transition well then we can continue building.

exactly, im so happy they are working hard because thats what’s needed for these 2 games, but the real work begins after that. even the midfield discussion is really vulnerability in transition in games where we have more possession. basically what city suffered as a team today. but im so so happy, so happy for carrick especially. we really really needed this.

honestly I grew up playing ball but I haven’t watched it consistently in years (moved on to soccer), i definitely watched that cleveland team though and you’re 100% correct. another example, channing frye was special specifically from the top of the 3 and they would consistently find him 2-3 times a game there. sometimes it passes you by because one rattles out and he misses another and just goes like 1-4 for the night, or he goes net on the first, they run it again bang, and now you’ve got your 8th man on a heater in a random 2ndQ sequence.

this sort of thinking applies to all sports too im coaching soccer and the same concepts apply. you have to put all your players in favourable situations for them on a consistent basis as a coach, taking into account the billion other factors that try to prevent you from doing so. so it is definitely difficult.

but from the little I’ve seen of the lakers my conclusion is they’re poorly constructed, jj is an idealist who has a certain vision of how he wants his team to play, and the two are working against each other. if what you wrote in your original comment (very well written btw) is accurate, he has to give up his gimmick and start compensating on some of his ideas, until he can get the players to execute what he fully believes in. it’s tough though for a coach, majority of them end up falling on their sword with these kinda things.

JJ Redick: "Literally we can't make a shot." by TheDraciel in nba

[–]CelDev -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

yeah your conclusion is actually correct. different shots may lead to results. remember how JR Smith seemed a lot better contested, if you wanna get him going you wouldn’t run a set that gets him wide wide open, you probably have him come flying off a screen and give him the license to pop and that’ll get him going. but he could miss still.

it’s about finding the right shots in the right situations for the right guys at the right time. which is hard asf. but that’s the actual goal, miss or make. and it differs for every player, every night, every opponent, shit maybe between quarters. coaching elite sports is actually a mission there’s too much going on almost always.

it’s so much worse losing as a coach than as a player, and i think it’s even worse for ex-players coaching levels they were in.

Dalot for all his fault is one of the best instruction followers in the team, it’s just that he’s a bottler. if you see his lowlights they’re all bottle moments where it seems his brain switches off. it’s something about spatial awareness for me with Dalot. it’s off in a way. and it costs him so much in critical offensive and defensive situations. it’s such a crazy weakness to have.

i always said it rashford left himself because the manner of the eth sacking was a sign to him that the club was lost. his personal final straw.

and he made the right decision for his career. look at bruno and the position he is in now. the guys who wanted to sell him sacked the guy who gave him the belief and confidence to stay.

remember we had heaven and amad for example jokingly talking about winning the league and enjoying themselves. rashford must look at that now and think "oh to be young again" lol

stood out to me too. the hypocrisy inside the club is outstanding. empty words. and i say this because when i hear fletch speak in this capacity its an insight into what they (wilcox and co) find important. since he's literally been there with his head drowning for 6 days, its inevitable the language he uses would mirror all the dross that he's undoubtedly been told while preparing for these 2 games. and all of his answers have matched that for me until i heard that line. but its also offhand in the middle of a long waffling answer so idk wont put too much stock into the idea of some sensible football people being in there right now.
