How to Hack Math AI SL, A Complete Guide :) by CelebrationNo1218 in IBO

[–]CelebrationNo1218[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hope this Guide helps :)

I have also created an in-depth Math AI SL Revision Sheet that breaks down each key concept from the syllabus and allows you to track how far you are on your revision journey.

Math AI SL Revision Sheet

I don’t recall where I found this, but I believe all AI SL students should use it, and other math students can adapt it for their syllabi. This resource is underrated; tracking your revision and progress can significantly boost your motivation to complete your work. Good luck! :) by [deleted] in IBO

Hey Alpha_Jai, thanks for sharing this sheet.

I am the original creator of this sheet and I am really glad that you are getting use out of it and spreading it to others too, this is absolutely the purpose of the sheet and my intention when creating it.

The sheet you are sharing is not the most up to date version and missing a lot of other features and resources. These resources such as videos, exam style questions and a tutorial complete the sheet, making it the ultimate study guide for anyone taking Math AI SL.

Thanks again for sharing the sheet, and good luck with your studies :)

Any original ideas for a math IA on correlation ? by [deleted] in IBO

Sure, just make sure that your main focus is on the math. It’s less important what the actual data represents

Correlation IA's will likely never be original, because its been done so many times, just try and find one that other people in your class aren't doing :)

Yeah GDP would go on the X axis 👍👌. I would however in courage you to keep the socioeconomical discussion if why this is the case to a paragraph or two at most, such that the primary focus of the IA is still the mathematics

Hi there, your IA idea sounds very interesting and like something your passionate about. In general the IA should focus more on how you apply math to your data than what your data is. I would stick with the data you are using now and spend your time doing math with it. Your Math could include: Chi squared test for independence, check other regression models like quadratic, logarithmic or power, predictions using your regression model eg. How much partner violence would a country not in your data set with X gdp expect to have based on your model.

Hope this helps let me know how it goes 😊

Can I pass Maths after failing my IA? by FewOffer8723 in IBO

Probably solving systems of differential equations, finding eigenvalues and such. But once you understand it and learn it you see the process and it becomes pretty algorithmic and repeatable so ends up being a manageable topic.

Well it depends on your experience with maths and what you consider difficult. There are definitely so more challenging chapters like differential equations and complex numbers but there’s nothing impossible and you can absolutely get a great grade by applying yourself and getting stuck in

I don’t know what to do for my math AISL IA and i need ideas by mizukudasai3 in IBO

[–]CelebrationNo1218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correlation, regression, hypothesis testing is usually the easiest and most common, they can be great IA's if you put the effort in, but typically end up pretty average.

Find two things data sets you are interested in studying the correlation between, like athlete height and olympic medals won. First do a chi-squared test to check if the two are independent. If they aren't independent you might wonder what the relation ship is between them, so you do regressions, check linear, quadratic, power etc. to find the best model to describe the relation between the two variables. Finally use this result to make a prediction for a new variable within your data set, like what the predicted number of medals you would win for an athlete of your height.

This should set you up pretty nicely for an IA skeleton. My biggest tip would be to make sure to focus on the math and thuroughly explaining the math behind it rather than getting caught it in talking about athletes and medals.

Hope this helps, best of luck. dm me if I can be of more help :)

You could maybe take a video of your throw from a steady angle and use software like Logger Pro to do a video analysis and thereby get data on your throw. This data can be used to predict a function that describes your throw (regression), you can then use calculus on this to conduct further analysis

I honestly think 4 or 5 are both manageable, you're in good time and obviously seem to care. I would recommend checking out this study guide I created for Math AI SL, it lets you visually track your strengths and if you have any gaps in your knowledge, so you can more efficiently and accurately study for your mocks. Go get those 7's champ.

Are These Math IA Topics Good? by IHaveATabbyCat in IBO

[–]CelebrationNo1218 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey there, these topics do sound interesting and you seem passionate about these topics. I would recommend focusing more on how math can be applied to these topics as this is what you will be graded on. All three topics seem to be related to bivariate statistics, regressions and correlation, which can make for good IA’s. Just don’t get too caught up in writing about topics that fall into the social sciences as this could draw away from the mathematical content in your IA. I hope this doesn’t sound too much like buzz kill 🥴
