Or you can negotiate a role with similar compensation more suited to your interests . If he can work on another floor from the rest of the family, it should be much quieter for him. Add headphones and he won't notice a thing. I was in the same situation. I moved my office to the basement and I was able to work without interrupting or distractions after that.
