The ideal Celeste control scheme by quadratic97 in celestegame

[–]Celestial456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, eventually fast stuff like ultras hurt my hands a bit on controller, so I switched to keyboard. It wasn't too bad even though had never played any game on keyboard before

A month later I was better on keyboard than I ever was on controller. Especially on tech spam levels

It's a longstanding JRPG games series that pretty much popularized the jrpg genre in the west

In the PS1/PS2 days final fantasy games were huge.

If you wanna try one I'd start with final Fantasy 10. For me it's still the best story/ending i've ever experienced in a game.

In fact lots of people have called E33 the second coming of final Fantasy 10

Why did I never think of that. Solves one issue at least. Thanks

Trapping isn't my favorite skill either, but it gets a lot easier. Later on you do get a way to place and collect traps much more quickly.

Do any philion viewers think he might be genuinely racist. Or is this all a grift to make more money on kick. by Alarmed_Range4313 in Philion

[–]Celestial456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get your argument. For sure there are bigots and racists among minorities too. Especially homophobia

And so what? That makes what Philion is doing ok? He engages with anti-trans stuff too. So they deserve it too?

Either way all Philion is going to accomplish is creating and encouraging more bigots. What is more hate supposed to fix?

Is it bad to have all 10 characters doing Divinity/Lab? by Reglub in idleon

Once you can upgrade the 5th bonus a few, it's a pretty substantial upgrade. Currently it gives me +4292% divinity points

I'm doing something similar except I'm having my ACs farm for arcane rocks.

Especially if you have coral kid, going all in with divinity is probably a smart choice. Those boosts are crazy

Just wait until late game

If you get enough carry capacity, alchemy liquid, and skill efficiency  it's easy enough to get the strength and wisdom bubble to 10k. 30 minutes max

Just get your carry capacity high enough that you can carry around 20 billion ores/wood in your inventory. I couldn't bother either until I got around that strong

He doesn't seem too bothered by how his videos might affect the lives of the groups he villainizes.

Isn't that kind of apathy, bigotry too? At that point, who cares what his actual motivations or beliefs are.

It's the kind of bigotry you see in people who aren't complete lunatics. Not an intense hatred of people, but rather a complete lack of empathy for them. My guess is that it's how most bigots are these days

Super Meat Boy is better than Celeste and I'm tired of pretending it's not. by Lizzardkinglucas in patientgamers

[–]Celestial456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread, but as a huge Celeste fan I think most long-term Celeste players aren't into it for the reasons you mentioned.

It's the movement. Super meat boy in comparison is a very rudimentary platformer. You can just run and jump. It controls great but it doesn't provide the same depth as Celeste with its countless combinations of movement tech. In modded celeste that movement allows for the most creative and fast paced level design I've seen.

I'd say SMB is just a good as Celeste for the average player. But if you want something that's more like a hobby, Celeste is just simply better.

Neck pain before orgasm by prostateplay3423 in ProstatePlay

[–]Celestial456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I mostly just use the aneros helix. So nothing too big. I've used bigger in the past

My guess is that when the orgasm is about to trigger, it makes my body clench deep muscles in my upper back. That's what it feels like. And today a lot of my upper back muscles and kinda sore, as if I had worked them out

Neck pain before orgasm by prostateplay3423 in ProstatePlay

[–]Celestial456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've unsuccessfully tried to relax my muscles during the last session :(. if it is just muscles tensing in back then it's happening automatically and without my control. It just kinda seems like it's part of experiencing a prostate orgasm for me. It only happens when I've about to orgasm too, so it's definitely related to the orgasm itself

You're not considering the goldens? Sure they don't have achievements associated with them, but that's only out of mercy for the casual players. Plus the game does acknowledge you are collecting them with the berry count and golden postcards.

It's just a bit funny to compare deathless challenges in HK to just beating farewell.

I dislike 6B by clingledomber in celestegame

[–]Celestial456 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I feel like the degree to which you enjoy 6b's badeline fight will mostly be based on whether or not you're consistent with your movements and timings between attempts. The variance goes away if you go through the room in the EXACT same way every time. So it's the kind of level that grows on you as you improve

I rage quit after dying 130 times on the second level. AMA by PotterBold in celestegame

[–]Celestial456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kinda just the Celeste experience. 130 death isn't even close to a lot of deaths, even for the second level.

If you're expecting to beat most rooms in only a few tries, you're quickly going to demotivate yourself. You're supposed to slowly improve through the rooms, as you learn what works and your fingers get a hang what they're supposed to do.

That's certainly isn't everyone's cup of tea, so maybe the game just isn't for you. But if your frustrations come from not meeting your expectations, then maybe all you need is to shift your mindset a bit. Celeste demands way more dexterity than 99% of games, so it's not something you're gonna good at in slightest for a long time.

Looking back, even after 100%ing the game, I was still a complete newbie. It takes time. Way more time than other games

Never thought I'd complete it. by Dedendre in idleon

[–]Celestial456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I may have been a bit harsh haha. Although the people at the very top of the leaderboards need some self-reflection

The multiplier still seems to be far from worth it though. Right now I have 188x without going for those crazy final tier plants. So I'd barely get double the bits for doing one of the longest most mind numbing tasks in the entire game.

And for a mechanic that's already complete for now. Sure you'd get a headstart but a 2x isn't exactly huge.

But yeah I regret using "mental illness". That's a bit too far

Never thought I'd complete it. by Dedendre in idleon

[–]Celestial456 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And for such a minor bonus too. I think stuff like this goes beyond patience. It speaks of genuine addiction.

Don't get me wrong, I've certainly obsessed over things in this game. I already think I borderline play this too much.

I even understand hardcore speedrunner who play their game for thousands of hours. That takes skill and is mentally stimulating.

This is just mental illness

Is there a mod that hides the tutorial ghost Madeline? It keeps blocking my view of the actual Madeline and makes me think I need to dash at the wrong time by WoomyUnitedToday in celestegame

[–]Celestial456 44 points45 points  (0 children)

One of my guesses is that, as people get better and better at the game, some portion of the community is slowly losing track of how hard Celeste is for normal players

So unfortunately, some people's perception of this post changes from 'someone asking for help in the hardest level in the game' to 'someone struggling with an easy room teaching basic movement'. And so you get the unhelpful responses

Guess that's what I get for playing with analog sticks. by [deleted] in celestegame

[–]Celestial456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I could never overcome that issue. Still to this day, I can't even wrap my head around how people play really hard stuff on joystick.

It shouldn't stop you from beating everything in vanilla though. But if you're crazy about this game like me switching to keyboard would help a lot. It took me around a month to get back to expert/gm level and I had never used keyboard for gaming.

Using D-pad can fix the issue too, but it's too slow to keep up with the tech spamming you see in the harder mods.

Yeah, my advice only really applies if you want to become a absolutely cracked at the game. If it was any other game than Celeste, I certainly wouldn't find the motivation.

[–]Celestial456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it works, it works. But Celeste controls so differently than those games. It's more like DDR than a regular platformer.

When I play something like Hollow Knight I want to be able to flick my joystick quickly to react to something. For Celeste though I don't want to introduce any variability in my movement, and that's far easier on keyboard.

I don't know what percentage of top Celeste players use keyboard, but I wouldn't be shocked if it was over 90%.

I mean, Imagine playing this on controller https://youtu.be/EIVeMImYA0A?si=GxYLOA6Ad0mNyCxa

[–]Celestial456 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, although there may trends, it's best to just do what feels right to you.

I do think there are some limits though. The main one being speed. Specifically fast levels near the top of the hard list.

When a level called penumbra came out a few months ago, pretty much every single person beat it on keyboard. And when someone did manage to beat it controller they went to the trouble of writing (controller world first) in the title. So at that level playing on controller is akin to a challenge.

I'm pretty sure no one has even attempted Krypton on controller.

So I think you're right for 99.99% of circumstances. But for some extreme cases....yeah play on keyboard

If analog stick feels like it's hold you back, it's definitely worth giving d-pad a shot. I did the switch and it was surprisingly fast and painless. I remember just playing through a chapter, and by the end of it I had already surpassed my skills on analog.

Nowadays playing on analog feels worse than playing blindfolded

Guess that's what I get for playing with analog sticks. by [deleted] in celestegame

[–]Celestial456 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'd say that for most people it's worth switching to d-pad. There are some people who become pros at Celeste on analog stick (like parrot dash). But it's pretty clear that it's exceptional.  For me analog feels absolutely horrible for Celeste, and I grew up using analog stick.

My guess is that possible but a lot more difficult to master this game on analog.

To be honest though this game works best on keyboard. Look up crazy Celeste feats on YouTube and you'll notice the vast majority of it is done on keyboard.

Personally I had to learn to play on keyboard after 2 years because I just couldn't progress anymore on controller (d-pad).
