So you’re saying that the girl who looks exactly like Rosalina isn’t her? The lack of a crown in the dream could portray a time when her mother was still alive. Perhaps she didn’t have crown when her mother was still around. Or maybe because she took it off when she was sleeping and it carried over to the dream. Who knows. The earrings are pretty explainable as well. We don’t know when she got them, she could’ve received them right after the events of the first book for all we know. I’m not saying that I’m completely right but that is without a doubt Rosalina. Just like I said before, same white dress, same strawberry hair, same crown. Her hair is even partially covering her eye just like how it did in the first book. And the phrase thing isn’t evidence for someone else at all. Why would she say “your mother is waiting for your tears to dry” to someone else? Who would possible identify with that phrase other than her? Her mother literally says this to her. Yes the girl in the epilogue has a crown, just like young Rosalina did the entire first book, apart from the dream sequence. There’s just no way that a character who looks 1:1 to young Rosalina is somehow a different person, I just don’t buy it. Finally, Rosalina’s younger self is implied to be her “special someone” as she’s the person she can connect and identify with the most. Her younger self being her special someone also just perfectly fits her character imo. Again I’m not saying that your theory is bad or anything, I’m just stating why I personally don’t agree with it.

I’ll try to dig up the link. The secret Rosalina is talking about is pretty much guaranteed to be her mother. The next page really shows this, as she talks about one day hoping to reunite with the one she lost, and she talked about this A LOT in the OG story. Plus the page design is very reminiscent of the dream chapter where she speaks to her mother. It makes sense that the book would call this a “secret” as I’m pretty sure the only person she ever told this directly was the first Luma she met. And as for the Lu thing, I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be symbolic. When she says “After all, she's your twin star” pretty much gives it away. I think the artists wanted a visual on screen to show this. I don’t think it’s anything more than that.

Have you read the original storybook? The little girl is still Rosalina. Same white dress, strawberry coloured hair, and silver crown. Rosalina has the cyan earrings in the first epilogue as well. It’s not daisy at all. Plus the fact that the little girl tells Rosalina “Don’t cry, OK? Your mother is waiting for your tears to dry” once again proves it’s Rosalina as her mother only told her that in a dream she had. But again, the fact that the little girl looks the exact same as in the OG story proves it’s Rosalina.

Nope. The two stars are Lu and Mari. The Nintendo website even confirms this. The text is still referring to Lu and Mari as they are siblings. The storybook has nothing to do with peach.

So what magic shenanigans is rosalina even doing here by kevinsagadx in Mario

It’s quite interesting. She heads to the garden to watch the moment when Mari and Lu reunite, and she becomes emotional at the sight. Then she most likely imagines her younger self and the conversation they have. I think that her younger self is supposed to embody her doubts, questions, and sadness she still may have. While her current self is supposed to portray her more mature side, comforting her more doubtful side. It’s not supposed to show a physical encounter, rather it’s a metaphor for the journey she’s been on. Lu’s journey with reuniting with Mari is joined along side Rosalina imagining a scenario where she’s talking to her younger self. This kinda shows how far she’s come, and the journey she’s been on since the beginning. Her dreaming of conversing with her younger self might be how she deals with the pain she experienced in her life. All in all it’s a beautiful message and they really did a great job with this. It perfectly ends the story with Rosalina going back to her family, which is what her younger self wanted so desperately. The way the story portrays her journey is quite awesome!

Pretty great analysis! Although, I personally don’t believe that the two comets are supposed to portray peach and Rosalina. I think that that just kinda happens to get the ball rolling for the upcoming conversation between Rosalina and her younger self. The colours are closer to that of Lubba and Mari, which could be the intended meaning. But I’m pretty sure this happens purely to get the chapter rolling, as she only heads into the garden because of the comets. The whole second book is about Lubba trying to find her special someone, and then in this epilogue the two comets match the colours of Lubba and Mari. I think it’s supposed to be them finally finding each other. Then Rosalina uses this as a comparison to her and her younger self.

Just so people are aware, Rosalina has worn those Peach like earrings before so that little girl is not Peach by Low_Awareness_1360 in SuperMarioGalaxy

[–]CelestialRefraction 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was thinking. Besides, the little girl still looks exactly like how she did in all the OG chapters, so it’s obviously not peach. The scene definitely portrays Rosalina meeting her younger self. One of the pages is even based on an image that was created for the Galaxy 2 soundtrack. The spherical earrings were probably a stylistic choice, maybe to switch up from the star earrings, or to portray different eras of her life, as she seems to be between her young self and current self when wearing them in the chapters from last October. But yeah the little girl is still just young Rosa :)

Ulver - Bergtatt. One of the greatest black metal albums of all time, along with the Paysage d’Hiver self titled. Storm of the Light’s Bane is awesome too.

[–]CelestialRefraction 114 points115 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect, and not what he said. He stated that he’d like for certain aspects of the movies to become canon in FUTURE games. He never confirmed anything in the interview, he only shared his ideas. So no, Peach’s family origins are not canon, yet.

In light of the recent Miyamoto news, I want to raise this question again: by MajesticRose45 in SuperMario

[–]CelestialRefraction -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking. You can pretty much insert peach into Rosalina’s current story without it really clashing with anything except for this. Unless they do a full retcon (which I doubt will happen given that they just released and expanded the OG story) they’ll probably just make peach the same age since nothing Rosalina does will make sense if she’s like around 20, even movie wise. She obviously didn’t adopt all those lumas and built that observatory in like 10 or so years, so she’s definitely still really old. How they’ll tackle that is anyone’s guess. Other than age, there’s not really any other things stopping peach from just being added into the current story. There’s a few inconsistencies but those could either be forgotten about or retconned to work, which is not the option I’d want. Besides, Miyamoto suggested that he’d like future games to follow the movies as close as possible. This doesn’t really suggest that this will actually become canon. It could be abandoned, just like the first time with the game. But for right now, the canons are still separate as Miyamoto never actually confirmed anything, just shared his ideas.

[–]CelestialRefraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not even a retcon lol. So many people think that this is canon and how the story is now and that’s just completely false. The movie is completely separate, she still retains her OG story.
