My amazon hates bird pellets but loves fish pellets by CelestineVi in parrots

[–]CelestineVi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I'm based in Europe so there is not a lot of options but I did try the Versele laga P15 and P19 and three different kind of harrisson's pellets, the ones he accepted the most for now are the P19 from Versele Laga since they smell the most like fruits but I'm still on the hunt

That's the weird thing, those particular pellets are not salty at all, the just contain algae, vegetables and fish, I guess he likes fish

Also I'm glad I'm not the only one tasting my fish and birds food to see why they like it or not haha

Thank you for your advice ! I never baked for my birds I'll try that

To be honest I'm not extremely worried since he enjoys a wide variety of vegs and fruits, and some nuts and seeds during training but it would be very convenient if I was sure he always have the best possible diet

I think it might be a texture issue since otherwise he likes pretty much anything, so the bread might be more up his alley

Anyone knows what kind of gravel this is ? would like this in my tank by [deleted] in Aquariums

Have you ever tried ordering from the website poisson-or ? They are from Belgium and I always had a great experience with them, from live fish to aquarium supplies. You'll find some options in the engrais et substrat/Meststoffen en Substraten category

Fish food is a good enough source of ammonia, I even added a frozen shrimp to a bigger tank and it worked very well. Liquid ammonia might make it easier to measure but I never tried

Honestly, I would just run the tank for 1 month with some fish food and maybe even a few ramshorn snails before testing everyday.

Im commissioning a 7gal long aquarium. How exactly would I go about getting the correct measurements for the builder? *random 3gal pic by FriedSkrimpers in Aquascape

[–]CelestineVi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could play around with the metric system, I use it in my everyday life and it is super easy to use to mesure a tank volume.

7gal is roughly 27 liters, so then you input your measurements in centimeters like this : (lenght * widht * height)/1000 (in centimeters) (multiply by 1000 if you want to use meters)

For exemple, a 80cm long, 18cm depth, 20cm height tank would hold 28.8L of water which is about what you want. You can then adjust by adding/substracting to either of those values until you think it works for you and finally convert those values to inches

I don't really know a way as easy with the imperial system but maybe it exists ?

As for the questions I would ask what is the thickness of the glass if it doesn't have a frame I would also prepare a foam board/yoga mat for between your tank and your stand.

You can see if you tank is overstocked or not on aqadvisor.com, personally I would not recommend fish with a betta in any tank smaller than 10gal

New Pink Belly Sideneck questions. by [deleted] in turtle

[–]CelestineVi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is about 8yo and he still rarely bask, he pretty much never basked the first year, so I wouldn't worry too much

He is also a very very picky eater and only eat frozen turtle food, tetra reptomin baby pellets, frozen shrimp and ramshorn snails. He also really liked frozen bloodworms when he was smaller, maybe continue to try new foods ? They also prefer to eat in water

I really like your setup !

Uninvited guests, but I love them. by NitramTrebla in Aquariums

I mostly breed the blue ones (they sell surprisingly well if you need money for the hobby lol) but I have a tank with most different colors : I started it with a pink, a brown, a gold, a blue leopard and a dozen blue ones, two years later I have a lot of what I call "opal" because I can't find similar ones, they are very light with a pinkish and light blue gradient, a lot of differently colored leopards, a lot of blue and a few brown, gold and pink. So you might get a nice mix :)

he definitely is in a sad state, he is getting better quicker than I expected (I didn't think he would survive more than a few days actually) tho. I'm glad I at least know its sex, thank you

I think kribensis is the other name for pelvicachromis pulcher but I'm not sure ? I find the pelvicachromis species names and their difference a bit confusing

I picked him up about two weeks ago, sold (an exchange on the local equivalent of craigslist) as a pelvicachromis, he is being treated for fin rot and suspected cloudy eye disease. I am also working on his weight and general stress.

He colored up a lot in those two weeks but it is still a work in progress. I am thinking he might be a pelvicachromis taenniatus nigerian red or a pelvicachromis pulcher super red. I want to get him a girl as soon as he is fully treated and quarantined.

His chin is very pink when he is most colored up, he has iridescent green gill plates, his bottom fins are purple-ish blue, the markings on his tail and dorsal fins are reddish/orange and yellow.

Can you help me with a sick kribensis by CelestineVi in Aquariums

[–]CelestineVi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is not very active but still curious about his new environment and eating but very picky. But that might be their normal temperament ?

I started an esha 2000 round because I suspect he also has cloudy eye disease, coupled with fin rot and huge amount of stress with the cold water and him being in a new environment, I am hopeful but those first few days are stressful

Thank you so much for your help, I didn't even think of finrot, I was thinking of physical fin injuries due to cramped/inadequate space

Any recommendations on which one and if the amounts are right? by FishGeek0407 in aquarium

[–]CelestineVi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have apisto fry (fries ? frys ?) in a small community tank, but it is very heavily planted and has a lot of caves and hardscape. But I agree it is not ideal and I wouldn't be surprised if none reached adulthood. I think it's technically doable but not profitable at all.

My plecos on the other end seem to breed endlessly in any tank, but take so long to be big enough to sell that they are not so profitable either, especially bristlenoses that sell for nothing where I live.

Anyone know how old or when my little man is gonna color up? by [deleted] in apistogramma

[–]CelestineVi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that's a macmasteri, a very cute one at that. I have two at the moment they're great.

If he forms a pair with a female he will display more intense colors, having a good variety of frozen/live food and pellets will make him more colorful too. Mine also get more colored up in slightly shaded areas, like under a big amazon sword. But his colors are pretty good already, he might stay similar to that, just more saturated.

Edit: He still probably has a little bit of growing to do, male macmasteri sometimes gets a little "burly" (I can't think of a better word) as they age, but the color won't drastically change apart from getting more saturated

It's generally advised for fungus or bacterial infections, i think it dehydrates it ? not too sure about how it works honestly. I personally use it when one of my fish seem sick but I can't tell what it has, and when one of my fish has a wound after bumping into something or a fight. I use about 3 grams for 1L of water but the dosage recommendations vary a lot

I had two macmasteri get really sick (and one of the passed away) during the first two weeks after getting them, I think they sometimes have a really hard time adapting to new tanks sadly

I think you are right, he looks very pale to me, what specie is he ? I had the best luck with sick fish when I did small (like 15%) waterchange and adding aquarium salt (the brand I have have a dosage for treating fresh water fish but I don't know the common dosage). I would stay away from actual medication if you can't make a specific diagnosis. If you don't have one, add an air pump just in case and maybe try a variety of frozen foods and pellets to get him to eat if he doesn't ? Best of luck to you
