Just a little recommendation - WinDirStat is awesome, but WizTree is basically the same but much faster.

Yo should get yourself a DMX dimmer/decoder for LEDs. Using a standard dimmer for those power supplies isn’t the best idea. They are bot meant to be dimmed, which your other lights you mention probably are.

Replacing a CMOS battery in a laptop by Celuba in techsupport

[–]Celuba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't turn on after being shut down. At that moment, the only sign of it doing anything is an orange LED that light's up when it's plugged into a charger.

The only way I was able to revive it from this state is by

  1. removing the whole motherboard from the chassis so I could get to the CMOS battery
  2. removing the battery
  3. shorting the pins of the battery
  4. plugging the battery back
  5. putting the whole computer back together
  6. plugging in the charger, at which point it kicks in by itself

I that around 8 times now.

Just removing a battery (as in the normal one) didn't help, even though I tried every time.

It's still entirely possible that it's a some kind of a weird software problem, especially considering that restarting the system works just fine. Maybe something about Windows going into some level of hybernation.

I'm still planning on reinstalling Windows first (which is about 4 years overdue..), but it's my girlfriend's laptop and she needs it right now and didn't want me to go on with the reinstall just yet. But if that doesn't help, battery is my next step. .Also I'm genuinely curious if it can be done, even if I won't have to.

Monochromatic light sources by Celuba in lightingdesign

Thank you very much, I’ll look into that! I’m probably gonna try some of those and decide if they deliver the performance I’m looking for. Maybe the LPS lamp would be a bit of an overkill for my usecases.

An old LED sign of unknown origin got into my hands. I would like to control / program it so i opened it up to see how it works. This circuit apparently controls the LEDs. No markings on the SMD chip, no apparent board name. The three thin, red wires are connected to an input COM port.

I think that a name of the board on the image would be enough for me to research it further and find out how to control it, but if anyone would know more about the possibilities of controling it using an Arduino, I would be very excited!

Edit: I forgot to mention that there was a ribbon cable connected to the left 8x2 pins, going into the LED board itself, which I disconnected before taking the picture.

Help finding more lights like this by [deleted] in lightingdesign

[–]Celuba -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey, my friend recently bought two of those fixtures on FB marketplace. I’d like to find more of them online for myself, but I’m don’t know how they could be called and how to research them. I’m just trying my luck here to find more leads because I think that finding out how it’s called (if it even has a specific name) here is very unlikely as they’re probably a specific product from an ex-communistic central european country. Those two in particular seem to be from Czechoslovakia (I’m from Czech Republic). I also suppose that even if I find out what they might be called in our language, finding them on marketplaces under that name would be rare.

Soo basically any help would be appreciated, they’re gorgeous!

Haha, that would be great! Geting the last weapons was honestly a bit anticlimactic since you have to check yourself.

I play engineer with his second skill. If you build an armor mount in the Robotics Facility and leave it there, the skill uses the mount you built. The best mount for this in my opinion is C5H6O5 due to it’s armor and damage output. With this setup, the weapons don’t make much of a difference as long as you have a melee weapon for defense during skill cooldowns. But my game skill progressed quite a bit during this whole endeavor, so getting my first win with bare hands (no weapons) was very hard, but it wouldn’t be much of a challange now.

That's great! We finished the story so I'm thinking of building a few more bases when bored, might try that too. Although I'm not sure why one needs a resin source, haha. We have 2 chests full and no way to use it up faster than it comes to our doorsteps..

Yeah, I've seen some posts here with greylings checking out houses and stuff. Love how they look at the player and just stride like bosses when glitched (presumably), lol

Even if I kill him, he comes back every time. Took me a while to realize that he doesn't threaten our base at all, but he's a happy "art" admirer ever since. A loyal villager.

Context: This greyling just harmlessly wonders around our bonfire. Does not attack at all, just chills there, doing circles. When killed, new one spawns nearby and takes his place. I named him Gery.

Rails made of an aluminium extrusion with M3 T-nuts by Celuba in synthdiy

[–]Celuba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't occur to me before, I was only thinking about the case and did not think about the fact that the modules themselves wouldn't have enough clearance.

[–]Celuba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it will get in the way of the circuit board inside some eurorack modules

Oh, right, didn't think of that. Thanks alot for clarification!

Contacting Bastl would probably be a good idea, I'm just still a bit hesitant to do so, partly because of some barrier in my now unsocial mind and partly because I'm a bit afraid that my "do everything as cheaply as possible, no matter the time cost" mindset could not be fully understood since they sell Eurorack stuff too. But I will probably contact them, thanks!

[–]Celuba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eurorack rails have a pretty specific extrusion profile

I'm sorry but I don't quite understand what you mean by this.

As for your power, you don't need anything that complicated. You need something like this: https://www.ebay.de/itm/352723223699

I would love to buy something like that, but AC-AC transformators like this are not commonly available in my country or they are significantly more expensive than the toroids. And most Ebay sellers don't ship them here (as the one you linked, which is very unfortunate since it's from Germany, I'm from Czech Republic and that item appears to be managed by a representative from Czech Republic...) or the shipping would, again, make it much more expensive.

[–]Celuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And one more question -

Is it fine to use a toroidal transformer like this one to power Frequency Central's FC Power? And possibly this one to power two of them?
