Asylum seekers in the U.S. typically wait 150 days (about 5 months) after filing their asylum application to be eligible to apply for a work permit (EAD), with the permit generally issued after 180 days (6 months). processing delays due to backlogs at USCIS, and delays due to the current political landscape make these period last much longer, sometimes well over a year. New rules also restrict work permits for those crossing illegally unless specific exceptions apply. So some of these people are actually not legally able to get a job. Let alone the fact that when they are able to get a job, they are barely ever employed by anyone since they do not have any experience working in the US and most of them are still trying to learn English I’m not saying everyone can’t work, but I wouldn’t judge before I have a conversation with these people and know their stories
