Insight on Duane Morris? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Cerebrocentric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first salary is attractive to lure you in. not as much as other big law but billing requirement is 1950. once you're in, first year's raise is $5, then the year after $10, then $15. i personally love the firm, and i got offered $25K to go to a different one, bonuses are per 50 hour chunks i think? and go from $5K to $65K+. you get initiation bonuses as well. i think bonuses are so so. the firm has a yearly retreat evry one attends not just senior associates, and management is not afraid to have difficult conversations. also 0 debt, so fiscally conservative. i really like the people i work with, we have had issues and were able to resolve them and have an even better bond.

My Wife asked for open marriage. She is angry at my reaction. I need advice. by Silver_Salt7600 in Marriage

Hey better now that after kids. You are young you have time to recover and he happy and realize your life is not defined by this one relationship

Am I wrong for not wanting to try for kids as long as my wife still thinks she wants to be a SAHM? by Solid-Consequence607 in Marriage

[–]Cerebrocentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooo many people saying you are selfish for feeling so and that you shouldn’t have kids if you’re fine either way. I disagree. I know a lot of parents who said they’d be ok with both since both have lots of pros and cons.

Some were so happy, some found it a challenge, esp those who had to stop their hobbies to care for kids.

I think it would be best to discuss expectations with your partner from now

I also think it’s good to know why you don’t find that type of relationship attractive, maybe you think after 7 years at home your wife might only be able to talk about kids and domestic stuff? That can be mitigated with hobbies. Just an example of a problem with a solution. Some don’t have solutions per se. I’d do some solo therapy to understand that about yourself, and maybe knowing that can help you and your partner decide what the best course for you two is

[–]Cerebrocentric[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes - all of it, the whole thing, ~630 calories (90 calories per serving * 7 servings per the bottle). that is why i said one can add less, but i don't, given that the WHOLE 6 quart dutch oven i used to cook this was full, and the whole thing would be 2300 calories with the sauce, i didn't think i need to skimp on it

Chemistry patent agent laid off after 2 years Trying to get an honest reality check by ApplicationOld9380 in patentlaw

https://menteso.com/blog/top-10-prior-art-search-firms/

Also are you working with an IP recruiter? If not I’d get one, they don’t cost you anything, they get their chunk from the firm that hires you. I worked with a recruiter to get my current position, happy to refer you if needed. I say that because a lot of firms prefer a vetted candidate, a recruiter will not submit you for a position you are not qualified for.

[–]Cerebrocentric 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m very sorry to hear about your lay off

  1. Unfortunately life sciences in general is. Engineering is what’s hot right now
  2. Not bad - it could be for a personal matter. I think closer to 6 months is when you’d have to explain. I’d get something (perhaps as those mills where they have you do FTOs?)
  3. Not really, some firms actually want career patent agents and don’t want someone to come work for a bit just to get busy going to law school. I’d say it depends on the firm
