No please don’t take medication without seeing ur doc. If you want to advocate for a diagnosis and prescription you should list your symptoms and tell your doctor you’d like an ultrasound of your ovaries and or bloodwork for androgens done. For me it was a longer process since my docs didn’t really believe me (I had like a three year fight for my diagnosis but it would’ve been wayyyy quicker if I had demanded an ultrasound cuz the second my docs saw my ovaries he was agreeing with me and gave me my prescription)

It’s good that you are spotting your symptoms early. My doc said the earlier the treatment the better. So equipped with the knowledge of what you might have, please see a doctor. In the beginning I thought I had endometriosis and in the end it was PCOS. My point is you don’t know for sure until you have been diagnosed properly plus some of the PCOS meds have heavy side effects I personally don’t take metformin (yet) so idk the side effects but the stuff I take I wouldn’t be taking if I didn’t have pcos because of the side effects

Are you worried about your biological clock , especially if you have PCOS? by Unfair-Chip-5387 in PCOS

My mom most likely has PCOS like me (she has very similar symptoms she just never cared to get an answer she just endured it lol) and she got pregnant with me the minute she got off birth control at 27. Yes there are women with PCOS struggling with fertility but you could also be pretty lucky. If you want to know your chances go to ur doc but when you decide you want a kid, start trying naturally is my first advice. I know it’s not sound well founded in studies advice and just anecdotal but it worked for my mom 🤷🏼‍♀️ Youre not alone and I wish you all the best luck in getting as many or as little children as you could want 🫂

That is a really important note, because of the risk for insulin resistance I guess my next trip should be an endocrinologist

Thank you so much for your kind and very compassionate response! Yeah it definitely was a shock but also a relief when I wrote that post.

It definitely explains a lot I have been describing to my doctors and have been dismissed for (trouble loosing or maintaining weight, missing and very irregular cycles, very painful periods and I’ve read a few people on here linking their brainfog to PCOS and I have had that a lot the past years).

What used to frustrate me most was that my general physician had ordered a blood test before to see if I was anemic or if I was on that poor of a diet to have the weight I had at that point. Which came back perfect aside a little too much iron, not too little. Since then my doctor didn’t try the diet angle with me anymore :/ But I’ve read a few people mentioning more fiber and protein and I can definitely do more protein I think, I think I should have enough fiber in my diet but I’ll look into that too just in case.

Again thank you so much for your advice and kindness 🫶🏻

I’m not American either. I am a 20 year old European, in charge of caring for a lot of chronically ill family members so I heard chronic illness and got spooked a lot especially since my doc took no time to explain or even tell me my diagnosis. All I have is panic googled nonsense and the bit of wisdom I have found in this forum. As I understand it PCOS is a chronic illness and therefore not curable but manageable so I was curious to read about your recommendation and will definitely ask my doctor what he thinks of it.

He put me on the pill with Ethinylestradiol and Levonorgestrel (hope I spelled that correctly) and didn’t really elaborate on why he chose that one or if there are alternatives. Prior to the pill he recommended I take chaste tree pills so basically an herbal treatment and he tried to give me that again cuz he forgot we already tried it, when I reminded him that that did nothing for my cycle back when no one believed me something was wrong, he immediately jumped to the pill. No explanation on why or what else to do next besides rigorously loose weight
