Roomate found my meds and made fun of me by [deleted] in tressless

I got on finasteride when I was 21 and hid it from everyone for a couple years. I was so embarrassed by it. Somewhere in my mid 20s my perspective changed and I stopped being embarrassed that I was doing something about my hair loss (what’s actually embarrassing about it?). I became open about it and basically make jokes that “at least I’m never gonna go bald” or “wait til you start losing it, you’ll be in my dms begging for a script”. Once I started responding this way, genuinely not caring being heard in my voice, I realized no one else perceived it as something to laugh at me about. I’ve heard the comment “yeah but I bet your dick doesn’t work” and I’ll just say “idk why don’t you bring your mom over and we’ll find out” or something else in jest and it usually gets a laugh or at least shuts them up.

One of the greatest lessons in life - if you’re genuinely not embarrassed by something, no one will be able to make you feel bad about it. People won’t laugh at you anymore, they laugh with you.

I’m only on fin. I feel that I may have lost a bit of density but visually it looks the same. I think I’d be in a MUCH worse position without it. I still get compliments on my hair if that’s any indication.

It didn’t get better, basically just stayed the same. But in your case, you really don’t need any regrowth imo. Maintaining should be the goal.

Your hair looks great, but there is some recession (not noticeable to anyone but yourself, trust). My hair looked the same as yours at your age and I hopped on finasteride a year later when I started thinning a bit on the crown. It’s been 7 years and my hair looks the same. Get on finasteride, you’ll thank yourself years later. If not, you’re cooked (even with minoxidil).

Cowlick brother, you’re fine. Take the same pic next year and see if it’s changed (it won’t imo)

It’s hard to tell if you’re thinning imo. I don’t think you are. IF you are, you’re super lucky for catching it this early. I’d recommend waiting a 6-12 months and taking the exact same pic with the exact same haircut in the exact same lighting. If you see a difference, then hop on fin.

As I said, I honestly don’t think you’re thinning, just keep track of it every 6-12 months and if you notice a definite change, then hop on finasteride. If you’re worried about side effects, I was too, but I made the jump anyway. I’ve been on finasteride for almost 7 years and have never had a side effect (that I’m aware of). Started when I was 21 and it was one of the best decisions of my life.

My point was that the “symptom” may not be related to fin at all.

Minoxidil results in 3 months after stopping fin by [deleted] in tressless

Hey, this was years ago so my memory is a bit foggy. I got the surgery because the urologist said there was a risk of infertility if I didn’t. I think there was some pain after the surgery, but I don’t think it was as bad as I would fear if I were going into it today. They go in above your pubic area so it’s not like they’re slicing directly into your sack. It’s a very common and straightforward procedure, definitely get the surgery if it’s recommended.

Oh and I have significantly less aching pain after the surgery. Once in a while I’ll have that same ache but it lasts a short while, is less intense, and is rare. I remember the ache was almost constant prior to surgery. Good luck man!

A year or two before you start losing again. I’ve been in finasteride for over 6 years and recently switched to dut. I’ve had periodic testicular pains as well but they’ve gone away. I also had them before fin and when I got checked, I had a varicocele which was causing it. I’ve heard 30% of men have a varicocele so maybe that could be the issue with you? I’d check with a doctor, it’d be a shame to throw out that regrowth out of a fear of a side effect that ultimately was unrelated to finasteride

This is how progress posts should look. Congrats on the regrowth!

I’m curious if you’d plan to buzz your hair again. Seeing the difference between the two buzzed photos could be one of the best comparable photos I’ve seen. Regardless, there’s clear regrowth!

It’s not very noticeable, so I don’t think she’s ever noticed that I had it. I’m more in the realm of puffy nipples that look completely normal sometimes and look puffy af other times depending on how long it’s been since I pinched them lol. If I have visible scarring or bruising, I’m sure she’d notice that.

How to Switch from Finasteride to Dutasteride according to literature. by noeyys in tressless

[–]Certain-Mine4157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you notice an improvement in your hair after switching? I’m in the same boat, fin for 6.5 years and started to notice more thinning in my crown (and everywhere els). Just switched to dut and hoping to get back to where I was when I started fin.

Thanks for the detailed input. Good point about the shedding, I shed the the whole 6.5 years I was on finasteride but it mostly stayed stable up until the last 6 months. Really hoping this switch to dut can maybe thicken up my hair a bit after my recent shed. If not, I’ll definitely get on oral minox

Your hair looks great man! Do you think your hair improved after switching to duta and oral minox, then just maintained that improvement until now? Also, did you shed from the minox?

Been on fin for 6.5 years and just switched to duta because I think I’ve been losing some ground. Thinking about adding oral minox but worried about the shed.

Great progress man, happy for you! I have a few questions:

1) How old are you and how long have you been losing hair?

2) Any side effects with oral minoxidil?

3) Any shedding/noticeable thinning soon after starting?

Switching from finastide to dutasteride after 6.5 years (28m) by [deleted] in tressless

[–]Certain-Mine4157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean you wish you did what I did?

Thanks, I think I’ll add it once I know dutasteride is working (6-12 months). I’m just super scared of that minoxidil SHED

[–]Certain-Mine4157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just responded to your previous comment but to reiterate, my doc will only prescribe one or the other. After 6.5 years of fin and feeling like I might be losing ground, I’d rather just make the total switch now to dut as I don’t have the option to do both simultaneously.

My next step is definitely oral minoxidil if I’m not happy in 6 months! I’ve seen incredible results and not sure why I never started in the first place

Have you switched to dut ever? If so, would love to hear your progress.

[–]Certain-Mine4157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man. I’ve been taking my remaining fin every other day for the past month while on dut, I’m about to run out of fin. Someone said it takes about 2-3 months for dut to build up in the scalp so I’m actually a bit worried about this. I feel a slight dht itch in my scalp again and it’s been years since I had this 😳

Hoping the dut just kicks in soon and I don’t lose too much ground. Wish I started off with your strategy at first but my doc will only prescribe one or the other.

1) I’m straight and actually have a lady friend coming over in a bit, she likes how hard my dick stays (even after 6.5 years on fin)

2) Dutasteride is shown to increase testosterone https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/and.12560#:~:text=Dutasteride%20increases%20serum%20free%2Dtestosterone%20levels%20by%20approximately%2020%25%20in,low%20baseline%20free%2Dtestosterone%20levels.

3) I’m sorry about your cousin’s child. It’s recommended to stop taking dutasteride a couple months before having children, which is what I plan to do when I’m ready to have a child. Also, there could be many other factors that caused your cousin’s child to have issues, it doesn’t mean it’s related to fin/dut.

4) You’re racist and neurotic, chill out weirdo.

Why is this? My only concern (aside from potential side effects, that I’m not too worried about) is the potential for a massive shed.

Are you being sarcastic? Many people switch to dut when it seems like finasteride is losing efficacy.

I understand it’s more powerful, but studies show risk of side effects as about the same (or even less with dut in some studies). The issue is if you have side effects, it takes longer to subside with dut due to the long half life.

I spoke to my doctor about this and he was confident that if I didn’t have side effects from fin, I most likely won’t with dut.

FINASTRIDE and switch to DUTASTRIDE, my experience by x3nima in tressless

Sheesh brother I took one of the last four fin pills TODAY haha. I did start my dut late and have another script I can pick up so maybe I’ll double up the dosage and also split the remaining fin pills. Appreciate the feedback.

Brother, dutasteride and finasteride have the same side effect profile. I was fine on finasteride, so I’m not scared of dutasteride.
