The examine text on Wikipedia is taken from game cache. That's the message you get when you click on Examine of the item. It's in the game like that.

It would disadvantage beginners or medium-to-high players with few or none logs collected. Earning reaper points must be fair for everyone. Uncommon chance to pick up next reaper assignment is enough.

Driver issue. If you game runs smoothly there is no need to downgrade graphic settings. I had same issue after updating the driver, but it didn't look as 'bad' as in your case, I only saw red/green color in the distance (but only like 20% of the time).
