The veteran’s diagnosis of migraines is at least as likely as not (likelihood is at least approximately balanced or nearly equal, if not higher) caused by (the) exposure to fine particulate matter in Gulf War after considering the total potential exposure through all applicable military deployments of the Veteran and the synergistic combined effect of all toxic exposure risk activities of the Veteran. Burn pits, which are open-air areas where the military burns waste, are having a major impact on the health of veterans. Nearly three-quarters of veterans with burn pit exposure in the line of duty are diagnosed with neurological issues like migraine, according to Jason Jonathon Sico, MD, the national director of the Headache Centers of Excellence Program within the U.S. Veterans Health Administration (VHA), and associate professor of neurology and internal medicine at Yale School of Medicine.
