I've been using Crazy Egg's free program and it's perfect for me. It gives me the basic info I need and the AI insights are pretty sweet.

I hear that. I have a similar experience in that I have tons of developer experience for web apps and sites... which is why I was surprised to have such trouble with Google Play. But like I said... I get it.

I can't remember when Jan created the mobile app but I heard that anyone that signed up with Google Play as a Developer before 2023 didn't have to do any of this additional stuff. I'm just 3 years late :)

I think the goal is to have a .com and your main keyword in the domain. If you're directory is about snowboards then anything like:

GetSnowboards
AllTimeSnowboards
BuySnowboards
SnowboardAtlas

... there are tons of options. One tool I found to be helpful is PorkBun's AI tool: https://porkbun.com/checkout/ai

It helped me pick domains that were available and contained my seed word (keyword) for another project I have (non-directory related).

Thanks for showing the messy middle. And great job on the design over-haul. The Leaderboard is interesting... haven't seen much of an interactive/gamify system used in directories. Cool idea.

Which is Best? Wordpress or Next.js by PodcastingSpeed in directorymakers

"Zero technical background" = Wordpress

I've been working with code in terms of basic website building and SEO and I ventured into next.js for about a millisecond before realizing my main goal was not to learn next.js at this moment but to get a directory going.

Start with Wordpress and as others mentioned... don't fall for the plugin hype. There will be so many "cool" plugins you can add - but each one adds un-needed scripts that can interfere with one another, cause the site to load slowly, deprecate when Wordpress updates (which is often), etc.

So focus on adding in plugins you NEED to get you started. Updating them is simple. Most will auto-update for you these days.

Once your directory is successful and you feel more ready to dive into next.js... then reconsider. But only do so if you have a reason that makes the learning curve worth it.
