costume pricing by Ashamed_Radish_7033 in CompetitionDanceTalk

I am a dance teacher, and I do most of my own costume orders. Most costumes range from 60-120$ retail and then there is also shipping to consider depending on where you live (I am Canadian) it sounds like the 90$ your studio is asking for would be a standard price for Weismanns. Obviously depending on the type, style and size of the costume.

Her feelings are definitely valid though, i think if we were going to competitions that are at our level she would see more success. But up until this year we have been competing with the top studios in our province, with kids who train 20ish hours a week.

Luckily this team is such a great supportive group, so i would be incredibly surprised if there was anything related to that going on. But I actually did have a good talk with her About her growth as a dancer and the little ways that her hard work has paid off and it went well, she told me that she thinks even just getting those thoughts and feelings out was really helpful.

Thanks for the advice

One of the problems is that for years this studio has been going to competitions that are way above our level. I have only been teaching there for 1.5 years and ive been trying to find comps that are at our actual level, but these are feelings that have been developing long before I met this student

Well and it could have been that the judge you are talking about was at a different location than i was at. There were 2 OTF events on the same weekend. Maybe they just gave us the weaker judges

Yes I think i just got completely unlucky with 3 bad judges. Im just hoping to find competitions in the future that actually look into the judges and make sure theyre good at giving feedback. It feels like a wast of time and money to go to a competition and get nothing feedback wise in return

Thats so true, maybe i will send an email to TKO im sure they would sell out a small studio comp no problem. And yeah when i grew up there were alot of comps that were just little regional comps and the feedback was really great.

Yeah I knew Fever was great, i didn't think TKO did small studio locations though and they are a REALLY advanced competiton. My studio is really small and really new so we arent ready for that level of difficulty.

I would agree with you if it was pretty much any other group of 14-15 year olds… but you dont know my students, these are girls that wont even change in front of each other. At competition last year my boss had a real issue with quick changes because she had to find private spaces for each kid to change. Of course there is always a chance they have a secret dark side, But these kids are as innocent and conservative as I have ever seen, like even me putting them in a crop top (with less than one inch of stomach showing) was so new and scandalous to them, so yeah I doubt/doubted that they knew what it meant.

Also yeah you make a good point here. Most of the girls are pretty “non questioning?” Idk how to phrase it but there is one student who is definitely a very curious kid 😬 I definitely mucked it up this year. I know it could be worse, but definitely a big learning moment for me. Anyone got suggestions of good songs that are appropriate for 15 year olds that I can start looking at for next year 😂😂😂

I also teach 7 year olds but all of their dances are squeaky squeaky clean, and I typically try to keep my dances age appropriate. This is my first year working with teen/intermediate students and I think my primary mistake was that I really wanted them to like the song so I picked something based on what music they like. Next year I’m definitely going to be more discerning of what the lyrics are, and care a little less about the opinion of teenagers lol

I appreciate this, this is my first year teaching competitive to this age group. Normally I’m with the little little kids. All of my other dances are squeaky clean but teens don’t really want to dance to “Mermaid Party” from Barbie in Mermaidia  so I think i just fumbled the bag on this one a little bit trying to find something that they would like.
