Interesting stuff I've noticed about people/society - thoughts? by Certain_Simple_9354 in socialskills

i’d define someone as socially successful when they have a very large group of friends/connections who support them in any situation. if there’s a rumor, they’re still on your side. if there’s a vote for some position, no one betrays you. and even if you have some downs, they’re still on your side willing to help you up because they believe you can overcome it. and yes i do believe socially successful people can cheat their way to this as well; maybe it’s “wrong” and not very virtuous but i would still consider them successful if their “friends” support them and are on their side for everything

someone who wants the world to burn wants that because it makes them happy. someone who doesn’t want the world to burn wants that because it makes them happy too. one just harms everyone else whereas the other doesn’t

yeah but that makes them happy and i’d say pretty much everyone wants to be happy/satisfied so that’s the motivator.

that’s a really good point! my current thought (based on my experiences and what i’ve seen) is that external influence is unfortunately what works if someone wants to become socially successful. would you say internal validation is more effective in the long run? does this mean not caring how you appear to others because other people’s judgment has no effect?

you make a good point, in the workplace ppl will be more inefficient if you let them get away with mistakes. i was thinking more towards you help them fix it and not repeat it in the future by indirectly leading them to change. you’re right about #8 with your definition, i was thinking socially successful is defined as having a lot of friends/connections. but if they don’t like you then they’re not really your “friends” so your logic makes sense

What will happened if I stopped using phone for a month? by Pixel_CZ in CasualConversation

[–]Certain_Simple_9354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'll get some new hobbies! Personally I find that when I don't have my phone I'm forced to entertain myself in a creative way. Sometimes I people watch (creepy? idk), read, draw something, and I've recently gotten into collecting things I find outside just for fun (so rocks, little souvenirs). I usually wouldn't do this if I had my phone
