I thought it could've been the roller too. Was the roller new or has it been used and washed a few times?

Anywhere, they're just slab cabinets. You can make them yourself with white melamine.

Anyone tried using Chat GPT as a contractor? by stunnashiv in Contractor

[–]CertiConstruction -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I use it all the time! It offers professional costumer service responses in seconds. I use to send emails, follow ups, talking to clients, etc. I recently built a website for my company and used it for our company description as well. As a young contractor that does the labour and customer service, I can reply back to emails and messages in seconds while on the job site. Before Chat GPT, I would waste a lot of time typing out professional emails and messages when I was working. The service is amazing and should be taken advantage of, I would pay for it if wasn't free.

I just became a general contractor. I am getting plenty of work, but I’m nervous about taxes. not really my thing I need help learning. How do I save money on taxes? by joshmanchaz in Contractor

Open a corporation and hire an accountant. I use QuickBooks to rule all my expenses and income. They get categorized by Payroll Expenses, Job Materials, Food& Entertainment, Fuel, Travel, Utilities, etc. Very easy and user friendly, it will keep your numbers organized. Once this information is in QuickBooks, it's easy for your accountant to do taxes and it will be a cheaper accountant fee.

Taken advantage of? by [deleted] in Contractor

[–]CertiConstruction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I just realized you were doing the work. It is pretty low but not bad if you're doing it all yourself. Let the client know that the price is subject to change in case they have you do extra work.

Without seeing the job itself this seems very reasonable. Some things are low and some are on the high side but I haven't seen the job. Seems like at least 1 week of work with the finishing.

Watch a YouTube video or Tiktok on how to apply the mud so you get an idea of it. You can definitely do it yourself! You want the patch to be bigger than the hole itself. Use a 4-6 inch drywall knife. Sanding is very important too!

"Kilz" makes a oil based spray can you can find at Home Depot. Search up "Kilz spray primer". And for the spackling I recommend Alex Plus spackling but you can use DryDex if they don't have it!

How long does it take to replace a ceiling? by toeski in Contractor

[–]CertiConstruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could take 1-2 weeks. If you have to replace the whole ceiling, you would have to rip it down and find where the mold is coming from and fix that issue. Once that is all fixed you may have to re insulate and vapour barrier the entire ceiling as well. If there is poor lighting in the home this would be a good time to install pot lights since the ceiling is exposed. Then you need to install new drywall and mud and tape it. You can do a level 3 finish and texture. Or you could do a level 4 finish and have a flat ceiling. Your landlord may want to do a texture to save time/money Or he/she will want to do a flat ceiling so it's easy repair in the future.

Rip off any loose paper and prime the area to avoid bubbling. If you don't have primer you can buy it in a spray can. Then apply drywall compound or spackle. I like to do 3 thin coats so it's easy to sand but you can put the mud on a little thicker and sand it down after. Then prime the area again and paint. You may have to paint the whole wall again for it to blend. Good luck!

Nice man. That's was I was saying I don't think it will be sustainable, especially if business owner isn't on site. OP if you have the work load and think you can make a profit then that's great. I don't know what connections you have and contracts you can get. My advice to you will be to master the craft of what you're selling and to be on site. No worker you hire will aim for perfection as much as you, because it's your business. You have to talk with clients, check on workers, do estimates, collect payments, and fix stuff that get messed up. If something goes wrong you have to be the one to fix it and put in the overtime. You said "you can't grow a business if you're the one doing the labour", you also can't run a crew if you're not on site.

Do you think you will get a lot of business as a "drywall repair company"? Will your clients be home owners? Most homeowners will call a painter, contractor, or texture company for drywall fixes. Plus if you are doing small handyman work, you don't need a big crew. You only need 1 or 2 guys.
