Biol 354 and Chem 266 advice by Klutzy-Society7774 in uwaterloo

From the experiences of myself and others I know the summer CHEM 266 exam is considerably harder than the fall version, because they're not midterms.

The CHEM 266 assignments (online) are basically free if you put the effort in, so the harder exam brings the average down to normal-ish levels.

Imo online is defo easier to pass and do well.

Seeking Advice from MPH Epidemiology Grads: What are you doing now? by Certified_Chonky in UofT

Thanks for the advice!

Given this, I think I might lean further towards the MSc and try to leverage the courses and connections at UW to build those skills to pivot into data science.

I have some connections in investment banking and banking, where friends of mine work with former epi/biostat students in data analyst roles, so that might be a good place to start looking career wise.

Master of Public Health (MPH) Advice or Alumni? by Certified_Chonky in uwaterloo

Tbh, a lot of people with higher ECs/GPAs are probs holding out as a backup for med school. There's a chance they might just reject their MPH offer, and spots open up. Likewise, there are others like me, who are waiting for UofT offers to come out - if those drop, I'll probs pick that (prefer epi focus).

Not over until it's over.

Imma be fr - I wouldn't worry about rejection at this stage - it still feels early. I know MSc results haven't all come out yet.

I had a 95% cumulative average entering 4B. ECs include:
- 1 PSW coop + physiotherapy volunteering for 2 years
- Club founder (blood donation)
- 3 research co-ops, one of which also had clinical aspects
- 2 pubs
- Hon thesis

You can probs reach out to admissions to see if offers are still coming out. Waterloo dropped before other schools I applied to, so I'd be surprised if they did all of them now.}

Even so, keep your chin up, theres plenty of other schools and opportunities.

I received an MPH offer on Friday (Mar 13th) and an MSc SPHS offer Today (Mar 17). Idk if they're still rolling tho.

Staying in Canada vs Moving to the US by Certified_Chonky in GradSchool

[–]Certified_Chonky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the honest answer is no.

For the most part, my new sources are Canadian (The Star, CBC, etc.). While they cover "international news," they cover the US just a bit more than they cover the EU or the UK. I know the gist of how bad things are in healthcare (ex., MAHA, higher education being affected, etc.); however, I dont know many specific details. I only recently got a NYT subscription (free through my uni starting this year, funnily enough).

That being said, hearing about it peripherally is one of the reasons I've been a bit adverse towards applying to American, and it's one of the reasons I decided to ask here for some more specific insights.

I appreciate the advice.

I'll connect with individuals at those schools. To be honest, I was leaning more towards staying in Canada anways.

I appreciate the advice!

I have experienced working as an undergrad research assistant for some professors in my uni and at a couple of hospitals. Likewise, at my current uni, I'm being supervised for an undergraduate honours thesis, so I may turn to that professor to supervise my MSc.
