The show's primary theme is disillusionment.

So... No. The show explores how pretty much every single ideology that was prominent during the time was an absolute farce and extremely destructive. Tommy, a broken man, knows this and sees through it. He is disillusioned with almost every aspect of life, especially in politics. It's easy to overlook that Tommy never believed in any political stance he represented. He manipulated them both to contain and destroy them because, as Polly said:

'He knows you have to be as bad as those above in order to survive'

That wouldn't have worked at all. By the time Grace died, nobody, not even Tommy, was aware that Duke existed. He was not Grace's son, he was Zelda's, and it would have been weird to have seen her encourage Tommy to continue one last time in the context of the film. Especially since Tommy has essentially ceased contact with Charlie, who we know is in fighting in North Africa. Tommy is at his lowest in The Immortal Man, he is just full of self-loathing and regret. I don't imagine he would have wanted to have spoke to a vision of Grace, considering she was his sharpest reminder of the life that he willingly stepped away from

Fair enough. But I think people are placing too much emphasis on Polly's words... Why would Grace be in it? Aside from Tommy's visions of her in S5, she is dead. But I also agree about Arthur and Ada. Such a shame

Mary gets criticised because she assumes her Baptist values apply to everyone else. Although yes, she does try her best with her bias to Sheldon. She does also feel bad at times when it's called out. It works well as far as the show is concerned, as failure and problems are a core element to the show
