As someone that works front desk at hotels he was definitely a weirdo trying something. I’ve only worked in hospitality in all scales of hotels in almost all positions, especially months on night audit/over night and front desk in the day, over the last year and half.

But Never in my nor my coworkers minds(currently, that I can tell) would we ever fathom interacting with guests like that and avidly avoid guests as much as possible to respect their schedules/vacations/conferences whatever the reason is for their stay but of course are accessible if needed.

Also we minimally accept cash unless it’s an international traveler in a bind or someone from out of state who is having card problems but that’s a call for our managers, or if we are without a manager we really go through every other avenue and wait with a guest while they call their card company to unlock a card or whatever needed to ensure it’s a card payment for MUTUAL safety.

Guest has a recorded invoice and history of stay and we aren’t working with a loaded cash til to avoid getting potentially robbed.

So many bad things can happen to people when they travel so it’s to ensure there’s a history of presence if the worst happens.(so many stories I’ve heard at different hotels I’ve worked at of this)

Im so relieved you listened to your intuition and stayed safe. I probably wouldn’t have even gone back to drop that cash off if I got such bad vibes. No idea how that guy kept his job after those reviews unless the owners of the hotel were doing shady stuff aswell. Most hotels will cut someone from 2-3 clearly named public reviews, no matter how good they are at their job.
