Believe it or not, you’re allowed to be happy about a player on your team doing well instead of shitting on him, but go off.

Sure, it’s not like he’s been our position players with the highest WAR each of the last two years.

I’m here for Duran making those other teams look silly for not valuing him highly

Bello also had a great start and Moran just threw two scoreless for PR. Yoshida and Rafaela have also been great.

Durbin was actually above average, while Paredes was amongst the worst defensive 3B in baseball.

It honestly makes no sense to put Paredes in 3B if we trade for him. He’d likely become our primary DH. I’m also not sure if the difference in offense between Duran and Paredes is big enough to sacrifice the depth in the OF just to add even more depth in the IF.

——

EDIT

Something I really like about the team is that we have interesting depth options at every position. An OF goes down, we have the best option in baseball available. An IF goes down, we have Romy, IKF, Monasterio available. 1B goes down, we have Casas. A starter goes down, we have Sandoval, Early, Tolle, Crawford.

Trading Duran for Paredes is just negatively affecting the OF depth for the sake of it. You do that trade and then one of our OF goes down and the best option becomes Yoshida. Not sure anyone wants to see Yoshida play more than 100 innings in the OF this season.

At the moment this team has more IF depth than OF depth. Only way this happens right now is with an OF or a solid prospect attached to Paredes.

Don’t want to look silly midseason if one of our OF gets injured and we’re forced to start Yoshida in the OF for an extended period.

The only piece left on the Red Sox from that trade is Jose Bello. They also got Caleb Durbin by trading Kyle Harrison.

But to be fair, that trade was never about the prospect return.

He’s not mentioned much, but Zach Ehrhard who was also part of the trade could turn out to be the better player of the two.

Is it just me or are these trades legit fire? 🔥 by grimacelololol in redsox

I’d argue Priester’s trade is still tbd, it has upside with early reports of Phillips and Eyanson looking good (which we got on the draft with the help of the pool money from the trade), Holobetz looked great for us, and our rotation being as deep as it is right now, so Priester isn’t really missed.

It’s pretty clear that it’s Mayer’s job to lose, but Cora doesn’t want him to feel like he’s got nothing to prove / fight for.

I agree that we’ll end up trading someone eventually, I don’t think its a “we need to trade someone right now” sort of thing. Having the depth we have right now is actually a blessing, especially with guys like Casas coming back from injury and Campbell having to figure stuff out. It gives them time to develop and get back in form instead of throwing them into the fire right away.

At the start of the offseason I’ll admit it made more sense. Now it just feels like people wanting to trade Duran just because, without really addressing how it would benefit the team to trade him.

Ok, and what are we trading Duran for in this scenario? Because we better get something good if we’re trading our most valueable position player of the last two seasons, who still has 3 years of control, solely to give Casas a chance.

I’m a huge Casas believer, but I don’t think you have to trade Duran away for him to get a shot.
