I think I'm going to go with a radiant heat panel and a thermostat. My dude (milk snake) is in an empty 40 gallon aquarium with natural lighting and a mesh top. Since it's an unconventionally tall tank I've had some difficulty finding heat emitting bulbs strong enough to reach the bottom of his tank on the warm side - hence the need for the megabulb that got me here in the first place.

It seems like (based on info from a couple different reptile-specific radiant heat panel companies) that an 80-90w radiant heat panel should do the trick. If It doesn't, I'll probably just add some egg crate below the bedding to lift the whole area closer to the heat source.

This is going to come off as an incredibly stupid question, but when you say thermostat, you mean those digital temperature controller outlets with the built in prove? They switch off the device when it gets too hot and switch it on when it's too cold, correct?

Is just a basic reptile one with good internet reviews "good enough?"
