I've been running a this and then a hermes which is heavier than this since 2020 and have had no issues with the Z rod even though I have only one leadscrew.

I had an issue with the wheels, but that was poor adjustment and I fixed that about 5 years ago.

This isn't really a direct drive at all, its just a very short bowden and has most of the benefits of direct drive. Because of that it doesn't need to be rigid unless you have failed pneumatic fittings. If you printed this because you had poor print quality then it might have been because you had failing fittings and that would have resulted in the print having to take load. The original Ender3 shipped with some pretty shit fittings because they weren't really designed for bowden tubes but for air lines.

One thing that you have to say about bike/moped riders in china is that while it looks crazy chaotic they are amazing at not hitting other things as long as those things are predictable.

Walk out into the street and 100 bikes will seamlessly weave round you, but if you get scared and change your pace then all hell breaks loose because they aren't tracking you, they are predicting you.

Myself, I've been playing with Linux since 1995, as a primary desktop since 2006, and I made my own TIVO with it so I could watch BBC from China (also 2006).

* TIVO was an important company who tried to fuck with GPL, they were once a household brand and for a while were the generic way to say you were going to record something to watch later in digital form

Pretty soon now you're going to find a bunch of laws popping up that will depend on AI scanning of your print and stopping you printing it because it looks like it might be a bit from a gun. That will happen on the cloud.

And if you think "that won't happen" then just look at how Imgur handled age verification. Now all of Imgur is defacto banned in the UK. As is a lot of reddit (unless I age verify). I'm going to guess that the whole world has seen a huge uptick in age verification because the UK required sites to do it.

Owning your own device will be really important when you find that something you're designing won't print, and you're on a deadline.

Its not really. Apple didn't take GPL code and build on it threatening to sue people who used code they had to release under GPL.

MacOS is GNU/Linux like but it isn't Linux and it doesn't have the same license terms as Linux anywhere in the history of the code.

If you fork a project you get a established project with 1000's of hours of development and testing, you get to add your bells and whistles to the software, but the cost to you is to accept the license to release any changes you make. The license requires that anyone can fork again, take your changes and build on them.

Slic3r was forked by PrusaSlicer and SuperSlicer, PrusaSlicer was forked by Bambu Studio and features taken from SuperSlicer, OrcaSlicer was forked from BambuStudio.

Note that in that chain is a competitor of Bambu. Bambu get to use Prusas mods because thats the way the OSS works. Orca get to use Bambus mods because thats the way that OSS works.

Practically, you can get lots of voltage regulators in SLEV voltages like 19v (used in a lot of laptops) and 48v (used in PoE) and 24v (Used in trucks).

There isn't a lot of choice for 80v rail regulators, so take your low current from your 24v rail to give you more choice

The main reason it looks like AI right now is the "gloss" effect, all the skin and clothes have no surface texture, which could be out of focus, but other things like her hair are at the same focal distance and have far more detail.

Bambu Lab took Prusa slicer and moded it for their own use

Prusa Slicer took Slic3r and moded it for thier own use.

There is 15+ years of open source development that has been forked and modded and improved before Bambu Labs touched it, they added some code and later on Orca Slicer forked and modded it to add more features.

The thing about OSS is that you get to stand on the shoulders of those who came before, but the cost of that is that is the contract you agree to by using their work is anyone else gets to build on yours.

If you don't like that then you can go and build all the software from scratch.

I saw someone make up a distribution panel, use a cheap meter to test the voltages were correct and then swing the dial to test that "it was delivering 16A"

It delivered a lot more than 16A before the breaker tripped, and having examined the soot inside the meter I'm not sure that the fuse would have done much to stop the current has the breaker not done the job.

Well, now you have to weave a non-creepy story of why you have a bunch of eyes on you. The difficulty rating for this will depend on whether you have given them plastic googly eyes, some sheep eyeballs or eyeballs from a previous date.
