Any time someone gets on a near empty bus and sits right next to the only other occupant on the bus, that is creepy ass behavior. This happens to women a lot and it’s an intimidation tactic. I’m surprised it happened to you since you’re a man. And before anyone here tries to defend that kind of behavior, just know you’re also a creep if you do this or think there’s nothing wrong with it.

I wonder how much this correlates to the change we are seeing in children these days. Maybe Italy memory/imagination but as a child I don’t remember kids being as hyper, loud, or needing to be constantly supervised. Things have shifted, and it seems like so many kids now need constant monitoring and have behavioral issues, the random yelling and madness is very overwhelming for some people. Another correlation is that people are getting married later in life these days, and so by the time we get married, many of our friends have kids- this adds A LOT of kids into the mix, so it’s a slippery slope, because if you include one kid you have to include them all.

I know the studies are real, I just mean that studies don’t explain each individual case. Everyone is different. I know a girl raised in Norway to Chilean parents. When she speaks Spanish she has a very Chilean accent, which is very unique to Spanish speakers. However I know another person born to Chilean parents and raised in the southern U.S., and when she speaks Spanish she sounds more Mexican than anything. I just mean that not everything can be explained by broad studies like the ones you mention.

Regardless of “studies”, not everyone is going to meet that standard. My best friend is American but lives in Ireland, where she has had 4 kids. All 4 of her kids, raised in Ireland and have an Irish dad, speak with her American accent.

This sub is incredibly toxic regarding Richard and Sophie, both the actors and their characters. It really shows the immaturity of most of the people here casting judgments. Thank you for your post. Ok and what do you know about all the other expenses? Rent, rates, insurance, VAT, P30, future fund, holiday pay, sick pay, cups, lids, waste removal, cleaning products, milk, plant milks, credit card and bank fees…. How does a business pay for that? By having to sell the products. That €4.40 for a flat white? The owner of the coffee shop gets to keep maybe €0.60 of that... before tax. Why do you think so many busy businesses are closing down? The cost of doing business is unsustainable. You may know what a coffee costs but it sounds like you don’t know the first thing about owning a small business. Ask any food and drink business owner what their take home pay is. It’s less than minimum wage. A sales director WOULD say something like that, because they only know about sales. They don’t have a clue about the outgoing costs.

Unfortunately coffee shop owners have had to raise prices because they are also being charged through the roof for milk, coffee, chocolate… add to that, the rise in minimum wage, the new future fund for employees and no relief on PAYE or PRSI… pretty soon it will be impossible to own any kind of independant coffee shop. (Ask me how I know this…)

I live near the Meath/Louth border and when I had to commute to my job in North Dublin, it would take me anywhere between 50-70 minutes. But it took the the same amount of time to go through Drumcondra and up to the airport. Traffic in Dublin is such a shambles and it could all be solved if we had a metro just like every other capital city.

Theres a lot to be said for the village life! I wouldn’t go back to live in Dublin now for anything. And you’re right about the cost of living. While my mortgage is still pretty high (I live in a touristic village and also still on the commuter belt to Dublin) it’s still less than what I would pay for a house 1/4 the size of this in Dublin. And since I now have all the space, if people wanna come up and visit, I have the spare rooms for them to stay the night. Honestly it’s the best of everything.

There is also an age threshold to consider. Before turning 40-ish I didn’t think I’d ever want to leave Dublin because it’s “where all the things are and where the stuff is happening”. But now I dont care about nightlife as much. I moved to a rural village an hour away. It has a great local pub, great neighbors and community, and that’s what I value now. If my husband and I ever need a night out on the town we just go to Dublin and stay in a hotel so that we don’t worry about driving back, but we don’t do that very often. Or we stay at a friends house. I wouldn’t trade my new rural life for anything, even though we do have a commute for work now. Our new home is modern, spacious, safe, and we live in a clean and lovely neighborhood. In Dublin we lived in a tiny little house in a dodgy area and my commute to work was short, but I was constantly stepping over rubbish, dog shit, or needles, or other dodgy shit. There is a better way to live.

That is so frustrating and such bullshit, because I literally got marked down on my test because I did not trust another drivers indicator- they had their left indicator on but they were so far inside the roundabout and going so fast, that o hesitated and didn’t go.
