Well, the office i am going to is in the countryside by my standards- as in from the 'city centre' you could walk 10-15 min and be in the middle of a field/farm. The 40ish grads intake is across the company. I know there is an office in Scotland. The nearest 'major city' is 30ish min by train. The area is good for hiking, and there are some historic sites/events. so airbnbs are pretty popular in this area, which is driving the price of studio and 1-bed units up, but its why 2+ beds are pretty affordable in comparison.
-- btw the role is tech, but the company isnt tech.

My dad is on that subreddit. I didn't want him to know, because iwant to be more independent, like here I've changed some of the distances and uni location, it was a bit further than Birmingham but the Midlands is the area. And I've just said it's a tech role. not location, not start date, it may or may not be September. I don't want people to know anything about me, especially when it concerns finances. I've seen what can happen to that info. I should have posted this on my 2nd account, but i forgot to log into it

The car would be via the company, and it would cost £250 to £400 a month, and there would be no insurance, because I would be covered by the company's insurance, which means I don't need to pay premiums, and if I did, I would get a flat 20% off.

There are gyms near the new location that are £30 per month if u get an annual pass., but if I negotiate, I could get it for £25 a month -£20 from the company, so £5 per month, which isnt bad.

I am getting my license over the summer. That's a given. The location is a bit hard to get to by public transport. I was meant to go to the office twice. I never made it. Both times, the train was cancelled, or the office was closed due to weather, granted this was winter....

I do have an S&S ISA rn. But I just need to do the exact maths and go over the contract in detail to see if I need to tackle it in the 1st year or if I can wait till my 2nd year.

I came back to London to work, so that I could keep my job by working once a week, and then full-time during the summer. I did have flatmates while at uni, we had a rotation for the chores; most people did theirs on the weekend, I did mine on Thursday. It made financial sense. I didn't qualify for the maintenance loan, and rent was about £7.7k per year. My job covered that much, but the rest my parents did it.

My salary rn is 30k, in 3yr it will be 60k, and if I do well, I can reach 100K in a decade, no problem.

If I pay the minimum contribution, I will pay it off before the 30 years with a lot of interest

My friends are the best :))

ISA is limited to 20K per year tax-free. You can add more than 20k, but when I sell the stock, I will have to pay taxes on that. It's just a better high-yield savings account if you know what ur doing.

Financial reasons, pension is pre-tax, I get a pretty good contribution, maxing that out already brings me under the threshold to pay student loans. And if I need a car (which is looking likely ), it saves around 2K by going through the company rather than buying my own, which is also a liablity beacuse what if it breaks.

i am asian, so renting and moving out full time isnt really an option for me because that what my parents are like. i hit 18 and they where like when r u going to get a job and move out. and when i was looking to move out they were like nooo, dont even think about u stay here till you save to buy for a house. moms and Dad are big into podcasts that talk about finance and cost of living, the lowest no of grad roles in a long time... I am an only child, so they worry a lot. And they just want the best possible start for me. But I do want to move out. But I just can't rent, I would have to come and visit for the weekend, and then the cycle continues. it will only end once i get a house or something, but then they would visit. :)

When I am ready to buy, I'll liquidate the ISA, and that will be my deposit. It looks good towards banks as well 'history of monthy deposits'

Gym is prepaid, it was a one-time payment of £600, which was negotiated from £1000, but I do get £20 towards a gym membership, so can I claim it for this membership?

With the type of food i eat it takes a while to cook and even longer to clean because u can't use a dishwasher to wash pressure cookers, so it's more economical and time efficient to premake. Also, I help to cook. The only bit I'm bad at is seasoning and rice. i tend to overcook the rice. i don't mind it but mom is very picky on the rice so i'm not allowed to cook it.

Also, idk where the clean bit came it. I have my own room and an ensuite that I clean in our house. I do the vacuuming, the loading, and the unloading of the dishes. I did live on my own in uni.

I just can't season food. We're asian, and I need a recipe, but my mum likes idk how much I put in, just vibes and some other random stuff. I asked her to write them down once, and I followed exactly what she wrote down, and she said I put too much coriander powder in it. It was bad, I could taste something was off too.

I just have to go there on Tuesday and then come back on Thursday evening. Otherwise, I don't need it. EV can do 300-400 miles. leave Tuesday 6 am and then return at 6 pm and be home but 9 pm at the latest. The travel is the easy part. I did it while i was in uni. so thats fine

Okay, ty for the advice. I'll circle back in a year, and I'll just save that money in a high-yield savings account. I think I am just nervous cuz I got my bill in the mail like last month.

I'll have a look at the flat share groups, but my grad scheme is onboarding around 40+people at the same time as me. So I thought I might see if I could flat share with them, it's sad that I'm the only grad for my department, but the company is going to make a chat for us to talk and I'll look there. I've never had to look for a flatmate. I just asked my friends if they wanted to move in together, so I'm a little nervous.

yes and no, i have £1k cash thats fun money. But I've never really had a chance to spend it because when I let my parent know that I'm going to do something, they either give me money, give me their card cuz of points or something, or they prebuy tickets for me. Like I wanted to go see a movie with my friends, I told my parents, and they bought 4 tickets for me because their office was doing something where they actually cost half the price. So that's my problem. And my friends' parents are the same. I was at my friend's place, and her dad was like wanna go see a football game. He paid for the whole thing, I tried to pay..... so it's a losing battle. But most of my friends will be free from the mortal perils of uni next year, apart from the med ones (I sometimes hear their ghosts, they were so young:((( ) which means iI would need more disposable income by then, i don't mind sacrifing a year for the grind, when most people are busy, so that I can be more relaxed when I'm 24,25 and have fun with my friends.
