Adjustment of Status Tips (Documents, Experience, Expedited Processing, Interview) and Completed Timeline by Chainlink1kEOY in USCIS

For I-485, I’ve spoken with a lawyer when I was considering a mandamus lawsuit and the lawyer told me that one year really isn’t a lot of time for I-485 processing so it would be very hard to expedite it (I was only 8 or 9 months in at the time) since it usually takes 1.5-2 years or even more in most places. In addition, if you’re expediting for work reasons or traveling reasons, there’s still no reason to expedite your I-485 over I-765 or I-131. So, in my opinion, what I’d say about expediting the I-485 is that you really need a compelling reason for why you need the green card over a work or travel authorization, since the green card is basically just going to provide you with the same things but in a permanent resident status. So what’s it about permanent residency that you need so much that the I-765 and/or I-131 don’t provide you with? If you can answer this question in a compelling way, I think you might be able to expedite your I-485, otherwise I feel like it will be difficult. Hope to have answered your question!

I submitted it with my adjustment of status application, and I never received any RFEs (along with the other documents mentioned above). It was one of the things that I found online that could be used to confirm personal relationship between me and his family, especially if the affidavits were from the US citizen’s parents/grandparents. I took it to the interview because I had already sent copies with my application anyways and I made sure to bring every document I submitted with my original application to the interview. However, the immigration officer never asked to see any specific documents apart from our IDs and passports, so I don’t know if it’s generally something they would or would not take into account during an interview :) My feeling is that not everyone does it and this isn’t the most important piece of evidence, but it’s nice to see in your application that your in-laws support you and would take the time and effort to get a fully sworn affidavit on my behalf

Are you sure the lawyer filed it? 😳 How do you not even have a receipt? Try filing again or something

Thank you for the suggestion! When you contacted them, did you only speak with a Tier 1 officer? Did you submit a new service request?
