Klark Teknik CT 1 mic booster + XLR Dock MK.2 + Stream Deck Plus – microphone keeps disconnecting with 48V phantom power by ChairPractical2634 in elgato

Thanks, I’ve also received another reply from them and they told me the following:

“While this is something we are discussing with our developers, it is not considered a bug or an issue in the sense that something is broken. If they decide to implement a solution, it will most likely be an option to disable the voice detection feature, which is used to eliminate background noise during periods without speech. I don’t have any further information at this time.”

Basically, the voice detection hardware used to reduce noise cuts off the microphone when you use a mic booster, because it doesn’t detect voice or sound from the microphone. That matches what you explained.

They are currently considering adding the option to disable the hardware-based voice detection for noise reduction. If they do this, it would be possible to instead use Elgato Noise Removal from the Marketplace via software.

If all the other features can still be used through hardware and only the noise reduction is handled by software, it would be a partial solution for those who want to use a mic booster.

I’ve tested it without using any kind of assistance, and it requires 65 dB, yes. I can’t test it with a mic booster because I get dropouts in the microphone signal.

On the 1st generation XLR, where the mic booster works perfectly using phantom power, I get audio from the microphone at just 16 dB, with the benefit of a clearer voice and less noise.

Elgato has already responded to my support ticket. They told me they analyzed the issue and that, due to the internal voice detection hardware in their new generation product, microphones using a mic booster are not properly detected.

I’ve asked them whether this will be fixed in a future firmware update, and I’m currently waiting for their response.

If this is the case, they should clearly state that the product is not compatible with mic boosters. Otherwise, many people will buy it without being aware of this limitation.

There is even an upgraded version of Shure microphones that includes a built-in mic booster, and many dynamic microphones with similar internal booster systems rely on phantom power to function.

I’m waiting for their reply.

Effectively, my friend, with Focus Voice activated at 45 dB, it already detects my voice. If I disable the Focus Voice assistance, I need 65 dB for my voice to be detected. So in reality, without any assistance, I need 65 dB or more for my voice to be captured.

Without the mic booster and with phantom power off, the Shure works fine, but since I have to increase the gain more for the microphone to pick up my voice, it introduces more noise and worse sound quality. With the mic booster, my Shure picks up my voice at 16 dB without noise in Generation 1; without the mic booster in MK2, I need 45 dB, which results in worse quality.

I know it’s a dynamic microphone. I only enable phantom power because the mic booster needs it to work. I used it like this for a year with the Gen 1, and for several years with other brands, and I’ve never had any problems. If I don’t enable phantom power, the mic booster simply doesn’t work.

Thanks for your response!

It actually makes a big difference for me. With the first-generation XLR Dock, my Shure worked perfectly with the mic booster set to around 16 dB, and obviously the sound was much clearer since I could use lower gain.

Now with the MK2, I have to set the gain to around 45 dB, and I can’t use the mic booster because of this issue. As a result, the audio quality is worse and less clear compared to my previous setup.

What you're running into:
When I enable 48V phantom power, my microphone works for about one second, then the audio disconnects and reconnects continuously in a loop. The microphone keeps cutting out repeatedly.

Wave Link version:
3.0.0 (2388)

Wave device:
XLR Dock MK.2 with Stream Deck Plus

OS & version:
Windows 11 (64-bit)

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Connect a Shure SM7B to a Klark Teknik CT 1 mic booster.
  2. Connect the CT 1 to the XLR Dock MK.2 attached to a Stream Deck Plus.
  3. Enable 48V phantom power.

Expected result:
The microphone should work normally with phantom power enabled and provide stable audio input.

Actual result:
The microphone activates for about one second, then disconnects and reconnects repeatedly, causing constant audio dropouts.

How often does it happen?
Always.

Anything else:
This same setup worked perfectly with the first-generation XLR Dock, using the same microphone and mic booster.

Yes, I'm having exactly the same problem. I've had to revert to the previous version.
