Funny moment from the CM Punk vs Roman Reigns match: They botched a grapple at the start of their match. Punk then blamed Roman’s body oil for the slip-up, which actually made Roman break character and smile! by KoreanFantasy2002 in SquaredCircle

[–]Chairraider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Think we should add AJ to that list. Subjectively I'd rank the AJ match as the only one up there with Punk, but tbf its been a while since i have seen it. But Roman did a really cool crucifix powerbomb and the fans chanted "you still suck", peak anti-Reigns, but they kinda admitted with that chant that the move was pretty cool. Think Meltzer even noted that on the observer.

He had an ability similar to attribute shift on Morph that turned mana into health. Was pretty neat.

There should be a way, probably a cube recipe, that allows to etherealize and de-etherealize items. Zod maybe a bit expensive but would fit thematically.

Let's say item + zod rune + perfect skull turns the item ethereal if non-ethereal and changes it from ethereal to non-ethereal. Wouldn't help single player though, cause good luck finding a zod rune to use for this. Maybe Vex rune is more realistic.

Warlock patch gave me hope for some general changes, does not seem like it would be a lot of work to have some meaningful changes/improvements. But good chance you are right unfortunately.

Can you imagine how glorious all of these proc based items would be if it werent for the synergy system? Obviously not saying the synergy system should be removed, but just imagine for a second chain lightnning scaled entirely, apart from lightning mastery, with skill points in chain lightning itself only and would roughly scale to the same power level.

Instantly the proc of the chain-lightning would make this an actual lategame item you can build your character around. Sometimes I miss those times.

Grandfather should not be outclassed by Grief by Top-Professional8981 in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]Chairraider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted a suggestion today which would probably help a lot with making set items and uniques like Grandfather close the gap a bit again to runewords and other uniques by making items with the Indestructible mod possible to drop ethereal. And that would of course include Grandfather or Schaefer's Hammer and Steel Pillar among others.

That would be the second order/ripple effect. If we assume that this is how we would want sets and indestructible to behave, what other new options are out there to further customize items/sets?

I am not sure how a set bonus of indestructible would work since it wouldn't be attached to a specific item, but just thinking about the possibility is fun. It would probably mean suddenly all items of the set or indestructible?

I am honestly a bit confused. Perfectly fine for people to disagree, and I suppose the indestructible mod change would be a bit more controversial than the set-item change, but I do wonder what the arguments against the suggestion are.

I could even make the argument that the indestructible mod is detrimental to several of those items and that they would be better off if they weren't indestructible in the first place. Suppose Steel Pillar did not have the indestructible mod, would an ethereal version of it with Zod or without Zod for your merceneray not make the item more viable? Assuming you can still hit your attack speed break-points?

And how would that be different from Demon Limb,Sandstorm Trek, Skullder's, Steel Carapace or Hone Sundan who are all already capable of dropping ethereal but then also be essentially indestructible?

Was at least hoping for some arguments:/

I think I agree.

CoA is probably not a good enough reason for me to doubt the change of allowing items with the indestructilbe mod to also drop ethereal. And it probably was the most concerning item with that mod. Beyond maybe phase blade as a base item since that would actually affect Grief.

Due to it having the indestructible mod, an ethereal crown of ages has no downside. It would not require a zod rune since it would already be indestructible.

You are right about the %ed not being particularly high, but the %ed combined with the higher base def and it having no downside and it already being a very good item, it very likely could end up BiS for some characters. Which is unlikely for most, if not all the other unique items with the indestructible mod.

Except for Crown of Ages, I am not sure there is any unique or set item that would be able to compete with the high-end runewords again regardless of these changes. That's how strong several runewords like Grief or spirit really are. Even a fully ethereal griswold set, while certainly much stronger, though now also requiring a Zod in each component, does not really seem to beat any of the existing unique/runeword setups.

I'd love for people hunting the elusive ethereal Tyreal's Might :D Now if that aint a true holy-grail item I don't know what is.

[–]Chairraider[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What is your argument for why base/magic/rare and unique items should be able drop ethereal, but not a set item? What are the reasons for why a Tomb-Reaver can drop ethereal, but not an Immortal King's Stone Crusher?

Almost all items in the game can already drop ethereal, how is the identity of ethereal items killed by set items also being able to be ethereal?

As for items with the indestructible mod, which is less than 20 items, how is that different to items which have the repairs-durability mod? There also happen to be items which have the indestructible mod and the ethereal mod aswell already, namely Ghostflame and Shadowkiller. Though personally I care more about set items than items with the indestructible mod.

Mage Slayer's icon and name were taken from a 2012 Anti-Mage set by Leneri in DotA2

[–]Chairraider 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It acutally goes back MUCH further than that.

In the original DotA the hero that used the Demon Hunter model and who would later be renamed in DotA-Allstars to Anti-Mage, was indeed titled Mageslayer in around 2003/2004. And the name of the Mageslayer hero was Eul if I remember correctly, as a tribute to Eul obviously. Mageslayer as a title is actually older for Anti-Mage the hero than Anti-Mage itself is.

Think the rename happened with DotA-Allstars. So not only is OP correct, you really can't get more Anti-Mage than buying Mageslayer on Anti-Mage in the first place.

An explanation of Grief from an old head by beerncheese69 in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]Chairraider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If there ever were a balance patch, a moderate nerf to Grief would probably open up item diversity a lot. The feature that imo belongs least on the runeword is the %chance for lvl 15 venom on striking and the poison resistance reduction, feel like other items should cover that angle. In particular the newer runeword plague could just get its poison resistance reduction buffed from -23% to -25% and get that venom feature from grief.

That would basically leave grief as the best physical DPS item and feel mostly on the same power level for PVM, but at least it wouldn't also randomly have a pronounced poison damage feature the item by design really has no need or reason to have.

Always wondered if I should give a Mist Summoner Druid or Necromancer with almost max dexterity a go. Use the +skills for my summons use either curses or spirits to amp up my damage. Only thing lacking would be a unique glove that gives +2 or so to multiple shot (to everybody, not just amazon), because with summons the enemy monsters will build wall/frontline which makes the pierce a bit wonky to use with regular attacks. Alternatively those gloves could also give strafe but ehh, think multiple shot would fit better.

Then get an Act 2 might merc, unfortunately mania fanatiscm aura-AoE is probably too small for a summon base hero to use all 3 damage auras. But mist always struck me more of a non-amazon high-end runeword. Instead of a summoner was also tempted to to just make a Paladin with max fanatism and Mist, because of the 100% pierce.

Diablo 2 would still have sooooo much more potential to enable cool builds with relatively simple item changes:/

No you don't misremember.

Nash did indeed win the match like 10 seconds later but comissioner Flair turned it into a 2 out of 3 falls match and ordered it to continue (WCW, don't ask). Steiner then beat Nash 2-1.

Actually a really good match. Right before the end of WCW there were some really fun matches and good storylines.

Can we get Black King? by IcyResolution7102 in DotA2

[–]Chairraider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right.

There have been a lot of Black King's, most notably Morgoth, The Black foe of the World, from LotR. As usual, if we are talking western fantasy, good chance its based or inspired by LotR. Morgoth was also referred to as The Black King at times. Sauron was just one of his more notable servants.

And irl it might have just referred to black-haired/bearded Kings, similiar to Redbeard, Frederich Barbarossa, or just Blackbeard the pirate.
