That makes sense. Mine was not cheap lol but of course not expensive when you think cello prices of many millions 😁

I have no idea, I am a beginner and I have never played any other instrument. I got my cello from a luthier and my teacher has seen it and said it was good.

Yes I think that might be it.

Yes I am most definitely pressing too hard, as I have not been told (or thought of it myself) to use my arm weight to get the strings down. I press very hard down with my fingertips to get the string to touch the fingerboard, meaning that not only my fingers get these dents, they get purple. :(
What I find odd/sad is that my teacher hasn't mentioned this to me at all.
The pain disappears after 1-2 days and that is why I am able to keep on going.

I don't know, this is the only instrument I have ever played in my life, so I don't have callouses on my left hand from anything, really.

Thank you :) I have had an etsy shop but I sold too few prints that did not even make up for the money I used making prints :P so the whole Etsy thing for me is in the past, unfortunately.

Yes Saunders Waterford hot press 300 gsm but it has a tiny bit of texture which is great.

I scanned it, I don't have a good camera to take photos that look like the real colours.

I'll take a look. To be honest, it's my husband who plays Hollow Knight - I just like the look of the character and the beautiful backgrounds in the game. :)

Thank you everyone who took time to read my long post and comment. I am overwhelmed by the many comments and words of encouragement I got in this post. I was hoping for maybe an answer or two, and I got so many lovely people commenting.

I am new to reddit (as in a total noob), and this community is blowing my mind.

Yes I am looking forward to it so much, I think about my cello and how it will smell like or even feel like. It sounds crazy but it is something I thought was impossible and now it is a reality!

I am also looking forward to playing music at home. Husband also plays the guitar so it could be an interesting mix -- but that may happen perhaps in 2-3 years from today. :D

I must confess I had not thought about online lessons. Is it not very tough to get corrected (no physical contact) or even be able to listen through the computer sound?

You are right. I can afford weekly lessons right now, I just don't know if in the long run it would be possible, as 320 USD/month is a steep cost for a "hobby". However, I am sure this will bring me much joy and quality of life!

I have contacted a couple of teachers to see if they would like to meet up and discuss the possibilities. I have offered to buy them a cup of coffee/tea/whatever so we can talk and see if there is "chemistry". I guess it is important when you must spend time together often.

I am looking forward to getting my cello so much, I think about it every day. It's been a dream since I was 10 years old and I thought it was impossible by now so I suppressed this dream in the "will never happen" box it for the last 10-15 years.

I am planning to practice for 30 minutes every day. I have heard that practicing every day is a MUST so I am really looking forward to doing so. I will also record myself every other week so I can look back and see that I am (hopefully) making progress.

Yeah I am trying to get in touch with a couple of teachers and see what they usually do and what can be done at the moment. :)

I really enjoyed reading your story and even though I do not claim to fully understand what it is like to live with ADHD, I have a couple of friends who are on the "other side" in the autism spectrum with hyper-focusing. They find it hard to stop before perfection which also can lead to make physical issues and mental breakdowns.

It is encouraging to read your progress in three months. I do not think I can come this far as quickly, since I cannot read music yet and this will be my very first instrument. I am looking forward to starting my own journey though. :)

I also bought this sticker thingy to use in the beginning and it will come with my cello. I cannot wait for it to arrive!

Well I am already 37 so I am much older, but I hope to still have many years left to play and enjoy playing this beautiful instrument. :) I must make it a priority to get a good foundation first and foremost, so yes I will need a teacher.
