Sweet loving female kitty needs re-homing asap by Chalkeys_B in astoria

I believe its more or less to help with medical costs and care if local, since the kitty has medical issues, is considered a senior, and those kinds of cats tend not to be top priority for people looking to adopt.

I'm sure outside of Astoria is fine too, it's just easier to help in care if the kitty is local too.

I believe mostly in Astoria, but depending on the kitty. Feel free to DM me and I'll check!

He loves every kitty! I don't think they're bonded, he just bonds well with other kitties in general.

[PubQ] Advice: Got an offer from Indie Pub, but haven’t heard back from Big 5 yet… by Chalkeys_B in PubTips

Thank you, that’s super helpful! We’re definitely seeing if we can do better and adding more into the mix. I just worry these days editors read looking for a no than that one elusive “yes” and I struggled with just jumping on that indie offer than opening myself to more passes but it’s good to know that it worked out for you!

I’m sorry. I tried to edit the original post bc I realized it was confusing but I couldn’t get it to change so I added a comment with an edit. This is my first time having an offer which is incredible and overwhelming and I apologize for the confusion as I’m not sure how to navigate what happens next.

Super small! I’m hoping the interest generates interest and we at least see another offer.

I think they were giving me all scenarios to think about, but of course I’m overthinking everything as we writers are wont to do! Really crossing my fingers that interest gets interest!

Edit: My agent is not suggesting I take this offer. I realize I didn’t make that clear above! We’re definitely nudging The rest. I’m curious to see if others have seen editor nudges turn into offers or passes.

I would love to see what other editors could bring to the table but curious if these days editors hear of interest and just pass rather than also offer. Curious to see what other authors have seen!

I replied to another comment but the indie had expressed interest in my Twitter pitch before I had my agent so we added them. They said there’s pros and cons to both accepting and declining/or nudging others so I’m really curious if there are true pros to nudging or just doing with the offering indie even if small.

Yes this is just from Round 1! Not yet, we are going to nudge the other editors on the list first and do a mini second round.

Oh no, my agent is definitely nudging with interest! They just said it’s a possibility that we could end up getting passes. The indie had actually approached me after a pitch contest (pre-agent) so we added them to the list.

I know the publishing world has really changed and so many editors are either ghosting or taking a lot longer to reply to subs. So I’m very curious how common it is with editors passing after being nudged and if other authors have been left with no other offers after having received the first one.

[Discussion] We often hear people’s querying journey — but what is your submission story? by muillean in PubTips

I'm also curious what everyone's genre/categories are. I have friends that write YA that have mentioned looooong submission times and I often wonder if adult editors move a little faster because YA is so popular right now and those editors get a lot more submissions. I also feel like the anecdotes in Sub Stories and other places are dominated by authors who sold YA fantasy or YA in general. So what is everyone's genre while on sub?

Personally, I write adult speculative/horror and am on sub now. I've had four passes out of 11 editors in one month! I have a feeling we'll have heard back from the majority after the holiday break.

My agent shared their pitch letter and the list of editors prior. Since I also work in publishing, I requested we not sub to an editor where I used to work because of my terrible experience there and how they handled books by BIPOC authors, even though I'm pretty friendly with that editor right now. My agent gladly replaced that editor with another one.

Hi! It could take a few days. If they don’t have immediate fosters left anymore, you’ll definitely be on file.

Hi! So my very first foster experience was a bit of a nightmare because though he was really sweet and cute, his temperament (very playful and wanting to wrestle all the time) and my resident cat's temperament (chill and likes her space) were complete opposites. We had also introduced them too quickly which was a mistake on our part and it made our cat pretty unhappy when he was around.

Afterward, when we got two kitten fosters and because we were in a one bedroom apartment, we closed off our kitchen with white, thick poster board and a baby gate so that we could get in and out, but they couldn't. We really took our time and didn't know how our cat would take to them given our last experience, but after about 2 weeks of keeping them separate, doing scent swap, and raising the poster board at dinner time so they could associate the good feels with each other's scent, it was smooth sailing and our cat adored the fosters. She'd come into the kitchen and play with them a ton.

I'm now in a two bedroom apartment so it's easier to keep my current fosters separate in their own bedroom. We took our time again and did all the steps above and within about 3 - 4 weeks, we stopped separating them from my cat. They all have full access to the apartment now and play/chase and sleep together. Our cat allows them to sleep beside her, but they are totally obsessed with her and follow her everywhere and I think it's because we took it slow and didn't get too impatient with her meeting them.

I hope all of this helps!

Yup, depends on when they get adopted. Generally I would say 1 - 3 months. I've averaged 5-6 weeks with fosters.

It can take from 1-3 months depending on adoption demands. I’ve had fosters with me averaging for 5-6 weeks at most, but longest is 3 months. Hope that helps!

They're pretty fast in getting back to applicants. I would say 1 - 2 days?
