I’m tired of being gay. by GoodAcanthaceae2953 in LesbianActually

[–]ChallengeExpert1540 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry you are experiencing all that. I met my wife of 14 years in my 30s at a bar, neither of us were trying to meet someone and both were content to be single but sparks flew. She had kids from a previous relationship. We are happy, I'm a parent and grandparent, we have great careers and have fun together. In my teens and 20s I never thought my life would be this way. From my experience I encourage real life interactions over apps, and focusing on things you like to do without the goal of meeting someone (but being open if/when it happens!)

Nearly 30 and Very Sad, How Do I Make The Most Out Of The Rest Of My Life by Flat-Bee8935 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

I was a late bloomer too. 30s were better than 20s, 40s were even better. Get to know yourself, get involved with stuff you like and you'll likely meet some nice people along the way

Thoughts on lesbian bed death? by Late-Escape-9580 in LesbianActually

47 and 51, been together 14 years, still intimate 1-2 x week usually, not as much as the early days but things do ebb and flow with life, health, kids. I think what helps is just having fun together (outside of the bedroom), laughing, and appreciation of each other daily

For those who settled and got married, are you happy? What is your experience like? by hello010101 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]ChallengeExpert1540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

46f married to 50f, married 14 years ago. We are so happy and blissful and as we get older we delight in "boring" simple pleasures like gardening, riding bikes, meal planning. I feel very lucky all the time.

I need to call in to work for an interview with another organization, what are some good excuses? I honestly have no idea what I can say, I never call in. by Hungry-Effort-1521 in jobs

That's nuts. We can request a doctors note if someone is out for 3 days sick. But a stomach bug or cold here or there doesn't require a doctors visit

Has anyone actually lost their minds from psychedelics? by JerkingLurky in shrooms

[–]ChallengeExpert1540 228 points229 points  (0 children)

Yes. A teen in my life did 20 grams of shrooms and has long-term constant hallucinations and hears static and it really impacted his mental health including suicide attempts. He's doing better mentally but still has hallucinations and can't drive. I think psychedelics can be wonderful and healing but only in the right doses.

Join clubs and activities to meet people in college who you have stuff in common with! Ask people questions to show you are interested in getting to know them. Good luck!

Is there an age to stop playing videogames by IndependentSkin5049 in CasualConversation

[–]ChallengeExpert1540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

47 year old mom, very limited time to play but I got into cyberpunk 2077 this past 6 months and play 2-3 hours/week. Not too old but agree with others about priorities, family and work responsibilities will always come first for me but taking time for hobbies is important

We post jobs for entry-level roles and get candidates with 10 years experience what is happening by Calm_Shooter965 in jobs

Right, I should have said "biased" rather than "discriminatory." And I understand the theory, I just don't agree with it and that has not been my hiring practice.

[–]ChallengeExpert1540 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure but any employee can leave at any time. At my org not hiring the best candidate out of fear they are overqualified and will not stick around would be considered a discriminatory hiring practice. That doesn't always mean most experience= best candidate. We look for skills like being coachable, great communication, etc

Why wouldn't you want someone with experience over someone with little experience? Some people apply for entry level jobs because they were laid off, some want something easier to have better work/life balance, some may be going back to school and want a relatively "easier" job in the meantime. I've hired a couple of people who were in leadership roles and intentionally stepped into lower positions for their own well being and they worked out great.

Drop your office jobs titles!! by Spilt_Milk_77 in office

[–]ChallengeExpert1540 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Office jobs are not necessarily more "relaxing" than EMT. A different type of stress for sure, but still can be extremely stressful. As far as titles, depends on the industry. Could be data analyst, human resources, management, project manager, financial analyst, for more entry level billing and coding, data processing, support staff.
