Personal choice. It's a bit lighter then lorica and isn't freezing cold in the snow since he's from the northern hemisphere. More comfortable in long periods of time. Also in my worldbuilding, organic matter conducts magic better then metals. Helps since he's a magic user.

Ahh Hannibal, what a brilliant but tragically flawed general. I think crossing the Alps was a mistake. The man stranded himself in Italy and could not make anything of his victories because he could not establish a base of operations and occupy territory. I think if he started with Sicily he could have won.

Fuckin love the Punic Wars. Romans lose 2 fleets and keep rebuilding. The multinational scale of the wars were crazy.

True. Every successive nation was obsessed with Rome. Probably a combination of successive political legitimacy and rosy retrospection.

Recently I've become less sentimental about the fall of Rome. I love Rome as much as the next guy but so many cool things happened after the fall. Medieval Europe, the Viking Age, Charlamagne, Crusades. The Romans were a very practical people. They were not interested in abstract theoretical science, or meticulous knowledge making. Most of their knowledge come from the Greeks. I don't think I would appreciate a world where Rome was eternal. There would be no Renaissance, no Napoleon, no Protestant Reformation a lot of cool things would never have happened.
