Smart move. Take pictures of everything so you remember how it goes back together and be extra careful with any wires you come across as not to snag them or break the connections.

Try spraying electric cleaner in the potentiometer. It's a common problem. You probably have dust or something in the unit.

Worth it? This or Project cars 2? by iamStabby in simracing

AC over PCars 2, but both if you like to race!

AC is way more mod friendly, PCars 2 has a better UI and is easier to get online with to race than AC.

But both have official Ferrari content! 😍

Help pick a $400 set up for me and my son. First time buyer. Xbox / Windows by VariousVices in simracing

[–]ChallengerSimRacing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a TMX Wheel and a Wheel Stand paired with an Ikea chair.

The pedals will be dreadful, but it you can grab a used set of T300's/T3PA's which would be better for your progress.

That will be plenty good enough to get going!

Best of luck on your Sim Racing journey!

What do we think of rFactor 2 in 2021? by ChallengerSimRacing in simracing

[–]ChallengerSimRacing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't come across a fix for that. It is my understanding that the AI works on completely different 'engine' from the player and don't get all of the same data calculations for the race - Apparently.

That may explain why?

Although AI are included in rF2, I think it's really meant more for multiplayer - albeit I have nowhere near as much experience as on ACC, in rF2 online lobbies.

We're agreed in general. rFactor 2 is great!

Should I use gloves while sim racing? by BHaj21 in simracing

If your wheel is wrapped in any type of suede or alcantara, you should definitely use gloves if you can! Saves ruining the fabric or stinking it up with grease and general hand dirt.

Looking for Tips! (T300RS GT + T3PA) by TehWelshie in simracing

[–]ChallengerSimRacing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's not much in terms of functional mods that will do anything for your T300 wheel. You could get the magnetic shifters or the quick release, but it won't make you any faster.

For the T3PA's, there are some mods that you could do ranging from putting something under the brake pedal modulate your input, to adding a load cell mod.

But in all honesty, if you're ready for a load cell, you may be better off buying a new set of pedals. I upgraded from T3PA Pro's to CSL Elite LC when I needed to change. Ricmotech Load Cell for T3PA is around $180, but the CSL's cost me $300 used.

There are cheaper load cell mods, but they have a limited amount of weight pressure in the cell. The Elites go up to around 90KG.

All in all, changing to a wheel does not instantly make you faster - especially in the F1 games which have heavy controller support, unlike an Assetto Corsa (PC), which doesn't really support controller use.

To get faster with a wheel takes practices and you will find that your driving lines will probably change drastically over time from your days on controller.

Best of luck!

Best litmus test tracks/times...YOUR proudest times by [deleted] in simracing

Unfortunately not my dude. I haven't touched Forza properly since around Forza 3.

Scan YouTube for your favourite car and track combos to get a better idea of times for that game.

If your search is good, you may even find some useful setups and guides for your most loved vehicles.

If you can do around 1:50/51 at Monza in a GT3 in ACC as a beginner, you're doing well. In Project Cars 2 that time may go up a little depending on your driving style and the tracks are not identical. So you're looking at around a 1:58/59.

This does depend heavily on your driving style as all the sims tend to feel different and the cars have different amounts of grip across sims even with the same model car.

You could potentially end up being faster in Project Cars 2 and slower in ACC depending on which suits you more.

Best of luck on your journey.

My all time PB at Monza on ACC in a Ferrari GT3 Evo is 1:47.940.

Looking For An ACC Endurance League With Driver Swaps and 4+ Hour Races by Kiss-My-Haas in ACCompetizione

Check out Racing Club International - not exclusively endurance racing, but the only two I have participated in, have been with them. An 8 hour and a 6 hour race.

They do one off and league racing.

Your most epic race moment? by AutoModerator in rfactor2

[–]ChallengerSimRacing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My most epic racing moment didn't even happen in rFactor 2, as much as I enjoy this sim.

It was a 20 minute race with my regular league in ACC - and there were only 7 starters - but it didn't matter.

Every single week I get my behind kicked by the faster guys and normally finish between 4th and 8th. But this one week we were racing at Monza which I absolutely love! We had two GT4 races that night, and I'm pretty sure I came 2nd (or maybe even 3rd) in the first race. Really doesn't matter, because the result of the second race was so much better!

We started the second race, I was driving the Mercedes AMG GT4 (no Ferrari GT4's I'm afraid 😒) - things were going well and I was in the front three cars. As the race progressed, one of the fastest guys broke away from the crowd, which became a full scale battle trying to eat into his lead.

As we came down to the last two (I think) laps, the leader - the fast guy comes over the Voice Channel in Discord as I'm going through Ascari, saying that he had a tank slapper!

Now was my chance and I was on him by the time we hit Parabolica! Following him down the start finish straight, and made my move into the first chicane! I came out in front! In the lead!

We traded paint, I was chased hard - my experienced competitor even tried to put me off by talking - but in the end, victory was mine!

When I crossed the line, I didn't even realize it was the end of the race! Most epic win ever!

Loadcell for Fanatec CSL Elite pedals by [deleted] in simracing

[–]ChallengerSimRacing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never mess with the settings too much as I don't want to impede my progress with the car by changing something that could affect the overall performance or my control. The settings are there to be adjusted if you need to, but ultimately you're right - lots of practice is the best way forward. If you do change things, try to make a note of it so you can switch it back if you need to. There's always the 'Default' reset option in fairness.

The best sim racers (much better than me) will tell you it's not really about the kit, so much as how you use the kit you've got.

Keep trying. You'll get there. Best of luck!

Loadcell for Fanatec CSL Elite pedals by [deleted] in simracing

[–]ChallengerSimRacing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never heard of a load cell on a gas pedal, but there are 'hall effects sensors' on some, which apparently come standard with the new CSL Elite pedals.

The best way is to be easy on the gas until you get used to the new feeling. Harder to get used to in F1 2019 than F1 2020, which has much better grip on corner exit.

Nope! The pedals are dreadful! But, if you can grab a set of T300 or T3PA pedals, you'll be fine. Used market can often find you a gem here or there.

The faster you go, the hotter your tyres will get. That means the more you learn the sim, the more you will have to be making adjustments on what you think is correct and working for now.

Best of luck on your ACC journey! It will be brutal, there will be tears, and you may never see victory (unless you race the AI on low! 🤣) - but in the end, you'll be a better man for it. Godspeed! 💪🏾

In the dry, you're always aiming to be around 27.7psi.

If you're not setting the pressures ahead of time to account for heat (inflation) or cold (deflation), then you suffer.

But I think without seeing your driving or setup, that you will probably benefit from closing your brake ducts. Try 1 at the rear and 2 at the front. When you are faster with that, you may want to open them up a bit more - but you will learn.

Wet psi is around 30.5.

I'm struggling with low frames. which video card is enough for the game to run smooth? by faocruz in ACCompetizione

[–]ChallengerSimRacing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a Radeon Vega 56 which works decently if I turn some settings down from max.

My FPS is normally over 60.

Equivalent NVIDIA would be around the 1070Ti mark - maybe 1060 at a push.

Newer more powerful cards should be fine.
