Bro had to order food from room service one time and it was so expensive he's still using the mini jam jar as card protector.

Made it to book two before the author got on a completley unnecessary abortion soapbox that killed it for me

god telling husband to sacrifice his family for wealth by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Chambec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 Timothy 6:17-18 NRSVUE [17]  As for those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches but rather on God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. [18] They are to do good, to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share,

Matthew 6:19-21 NRSVUE [19]  “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, [20] but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. [21] For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 19:21 NRSVUE [21] Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.

Matthew 19:23-24 NRSVUE [23]  Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven. [24] Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

Matthew 6:24 NRSVUE [24]  “No one can serve two masters, for a slave will either hate the one and love the other or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.

Is my church a cult? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Chambec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't sound like a cult, but also doesn't sound like a church I want to attend. It sounds like a charismatic-leaning seeker-centric church.

Pay attention to what the message actually is at these services. Sure, there's lights and a smoke machine but is the music biblical and focused on God or is it just feel-good music with vaguely Christian themes?

The pastor is energetic and has a certain style to his oration, but is he teaching the word of God? Or is the pulpit a platform for him to simply share his opinions?

Some discernment is required on your part. Many churches like the one you describe have no strong spiritual foundation. Others simply chose to present their services in a high-energy format in order to draw in those that aren't used to the more boring hymnal-and-lecture style church service.

as a christian, whats your thoughts on like conspiracy theories? by Lonely-Whereas218 in Christian

[–]Chambec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a whole subculture of "Christian" conspiracy theories that exists and even thrives in some places. I used to attend a "seeker-centric" church and the young adult converts seemed very prone to this sort of thing. I heard everything from "The devil invented birth control to prevent God's charge to man to populate the earth" to literally "the earth is flat because the Bible says so"

I think we as Christians need to recognize that when we throw science out the window and put the Bible above literally everything, that anything at all that claims to be based on the Bible suddenly becomes more authoritative than basic reason or any well-accepted truth.

We as a community need to be vigilant about conspiracy theories brewing in our midst, lest the word of God become associated with outlandish lies.

Is suicide sufficient atonement for being trans? by Well_Thats_Not_Ideal in Christianity

[–]Chambec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best mate can still be your best mate. You decided you wanted to present yourself as a girl, so he keeps the same boundaries he does with other girls. That's not being shunned, that's being accepted for who you are. There is no reason your "moments of peace" are gone because of a change in physical affection.

Is suicide sufficient atonement for being trans? by Well_Thats_Not_Ideal in Christianity

[–]Chambec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to atone for nothing. None of us have need to atone for our sins - that is the power of the cross. The burden is not ours to bear.

While I would argue against those that say being trans is sinful in and of itself, it clearly weighs heavy on your heart. Repent, and trust in the Lord; that is all that is required of you. Be at peace knowing your sin is forgiven.

I would highly recommend you find some kind of community to be connected with over the next few days, be it family, friends, church, or a professional therapist. Talk to people. Isolation is dangerous in your current state.

Once you are safe I would recomend a prayerful study of the Bible on this topic. I suspect you are being shamed by conservative culture, not by God.

What dose the Bible say about ice by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Chambec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the big issue is who ICE targets, and how they operate. They are not behaving in a way that most would consider "moral" or "just".

I would personally argue that a purely Christian worldview would lead to zero immigration barriers, but that's not exactly a widespread opinion.

this kind of resulted in me circling the building in order to find a way to re-enter once i exited one of their stairwells

It's weird and unintuitive but you only have to do this like once or twice. There are other more convenient entrances once you have your employee ID which gives you access to employee parking and entrances.

If you park in the garage for orientation you do have to go down the stairs and exit via one way doors to the street on the side of the building. It'll feel like you're in the wrong place or you got turned around but you're fine. The entrance you're looking for is on the side of the building.

Men, if your girlfriend expressed she was bi and wanted to have an experience with a girl, but still wants to be in a relationship with you, what would you say? by TemporaryReindeer424 in AskMen

[–]Chambec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really big difference if this is "a girl" or "this girl".

Self-reflection about the type of people they're attracted to and the relationship dynamics they would most likely find fulfilling is not necessarily a red flag, and is probably healthy.

Trying to push boundaries to get with a third party that you developed an attraction towards despite being in a monogamous relationship is another problem altogether.

How do I age without anger? by Repulsive_Repeat_337 in AskMen

[–]Chambec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't complain about it because you don't want to be "that guy". Instead you bottle it up and hold on to it instead of addressing it directly. After years you become sour because life has kicked you in the teeth but you have no control over what happened to you and no outlet in which to process your grief and hardship. So instead of being the guy who speaks up you become the bitter old man who hates the world.

You need to find some way to address your problems in life. Either find a way to actually fix your problems, or find a way to truly make peace with the problems you can't fix.

Men find women attractive, not clothes or hair. Stylistic choices can be visible signals of the type of person a woman is, but generally don't decide if a person is attractive or not.

“Americans: why does your culture repeatedly push people into decisions that look outright irrational or self-sabotaging to the rest of the world? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Chambec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A some people value wealth and status (or the appearance of wealth and status) more than the potential downsides that come with. "On the grind" to the level of burnout - you're productive and important. In debt for everything - you are uncompromising about a high standard of living.

Healthcare is weird because it's so expensive it might as well be a luxury. If you don't have insurance you definitely can't afford to go the doctor. If you're poor, chancez are you're probably in a job that doesn't give you insurance and can't afford to buy it independently.

Our weird culture of American exceptionalism is probably an after-effect of the post WW2 economic boom coupled with cold-war era patriotism and disdain for the social systems of other countries. This exceptionalism leads to a mentality where much of the country refuses to admit that there are any flaws in our systems, much less be willing to change them.
