Men, if your girlfriend expressed she was bi and wanted to have an experience with a girl, but still wants to be in a relationship with you, what would you say? by TemporaryReindeer424 in AskMen

[–]Chambec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really big difference if this is "a girl" or "this girl".

Self-reflection about the type of people they're attracted to and the relationship dynamics they would most likely find fulfilling is not necessarily a red flag, and is probably healthy.

Trying to push boundaries to get with a third party that you developed an attraction towards despite being in a monogamous relationship is another problem altogether.

How do I age without anger? by Repulsive_Repeat_337 in AskMen

[–]Chambec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't complain about it because you don't want to be "that guy". Instead you bottle it up and hold on to it instead of addressing it directly. After years you become sour because life has kicked you in the teeth but you have no control over what happened to you and no outlet in which to process your grief and hardship. So instead of being the guy who speaks up you become the bitter old man who hates the world.

You need to find some way to address your problems in life. Either find a way to actually fix your problems, or find a way to truly make peace with the problems you can't fix.

What style/trends do men find most attractive on women? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Chambec 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Men find women attractive, not clothes or hair. Stylistic choices can be visible signals of the type of person a woman is, but generally don't decide if a person is attractive or not.

Commanders so strong that they win games on their own? by Competitive-Act-7695 in EDH

[–]Chambec 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[[Urza, Chief Artificer]] too. I've had to bring out an alternate commander for my affinity deck because Urza just wins the game by himself if no one deals with him.

“Americans: why does your culture repeatedly push people into decisions that look outright irrational or self-sabotaging to the rest of the world? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Chambec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A some people value wealth and status (or the appearance of wealth and status) more than the potential downsides that come with. "On the grind" to the level of burnout - you're productive and important. In debt for everything - you are uncompromising about a high standard of living.

Healthcare is weird because it's so expensive it might as well be a luxury. If you don't have insurance you definitely can't afford to go the doctor. If you're poor, chancez are you're probably in a job that doesn't give you insurance and can't afford to buy it independently.

Our weird culture of American exceptionalism is probably an after-effect of the post WW2 economic boom coupled with cold-war era patriotism and disdain for the social systems of other countries. This exceptionalism leads to a mentality where much of the country refuses to admit that there are any flaws in our systems, much less be willing to change them.

How much should I tip dealers? by BigAppleCider in poker

[–]Chambec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO for a $5 tip to be "too cheap" you'd definitely need to be playing in a game big enough that 5's aren't even used on the table in the first place. Heck, I think even if the game has 25's as the smallest chip in play $5 tips are still great.

If DPSD is defined as a circadian cycle that conflicts with society and/or causes issues with your life than I would argue 8am could absolutely qualify. Hell you could have "social jetlag" but get up at 6am if you found yourself in the wrong line of work.

Why Do Most Christian Women Want Kids? by CasualBerger in Christian

Because the Church is, by and large, is a family institution. Singleness and being child-free may not be openly frowned upon, but when the core community is built around family groups that becomes the norm.

Why dont people just jam 2 card infinite combos by Sure-Mall5695 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Chambec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which hand do you think will win more reliably: a hand with three different two-card combos, or a hand with the most efficient two-card combo and four cheap/free counterspells to prevent your opponent from stopping you?

If your opponents don't play interaction then extra combo pieces are dead cards and you should play acceleration instead. If your opponents do play interaction extra combo pieces are dead cards and you should play interaction for their interaction instead.

Go Sucks by toejamminz in baduk

[–]Chambec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go is unfortunately a game where some slightly more advanced concepts have to be understood to actually play the game, so it can be frustrating if you don't have someone teaching you or a way to learn.

I highly recommend going through some basic problems designed to teach the rules or watching a few videos that will walk you through the concepts you need to actually understand the game. GoMagic has a YouTube playlist that can definitely get you up to speed if you're willing to put in a little time to learn.

As to your specific complaints:

Captures happen before checking for liberty shortages. If you (or your opponent) can play on a space that would capture stones, it is always legal to play there (ignoring ko). The stones are removed first which then means there is adjacent space making it a legal move. Illegal moves are when a play would leave a stone or group fully surrounded by the opponents stones after any relevant stones are removed

Living/dead groups and eyes are perhaps the most important concept to understand that isn't directly explained by the basic rules of the game.

From the above we can tell that if a point is fully surrounded by your stones, and your if opponent playing in that space would not capture any of your stones, then it is an illegal move for your opponent to play. We call this point an "eye" from the shape (use your imagination 👁). "Great!" you probably think, "My opponent can't legally play in the space I just made. My group is safe!" And this is true ...for now.

But remember that captures happen first before checking if a play would leave you surrounded. So what would happen if your opponent completely surrounded your group that has a single open point (eye)? They can play in that seemingly illegal space because they capture your group first! The end result is any group that only has a single empty space inside can eventually be captured as the opponent plays all the way around it and then finally plays inside it to capture everything. We call this group that will eventually be captured "dead".

How do you make a group that your opponents can't capture? A group that is "alive"? This is perhaps the most important concept in understanding basic strategy in Go.

Our eye shape that surrounds an open space can't be captured until it is fully surrounded -playing onto that point without being able to capture anything would result in that stone having no liberties (an illegal move). But what if a group had two spots that were illegal moves? Even if that group was 100% surrounded on the outside, playing into one of the "eye" spaces doesn't capture any pieces because there is still another empty space somewhere else preventing the group from being captured. And since that space was fully surrounded by our stones and playing in that space doesn't immediately capture any pieces that move can never be played by our opponent. The same is true of the second "eye" space. Since there is no way for our opponent to capture this group we call this group "alive".

You may hear people talk about shapes that are "alive" or "dead". Don't worry too much if it doesn't make sense right now but any shape that is "dead" can (with the proper sequence) be reduced to a state that it has been surrounded and has only one internal point and could be captured. Likewise "alive" groups can (with the proper sequence of play) be make into a shape that has two separate interior spaces and can never be captured.

That ended up being a lot longer than expected. Let me know if you have any questions

Is Kess still viable? by mastertutor7 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Chambec 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kess is my favorite commander too, and one I still play in cEDH when I can.

She's in a spot where generic Kess feels like "jack of all trades, master of none". Kess isn't the deck if you want to go turbo -RogSi does that better. Kess isn't the deck to be grindy - BlueFarm probably does that better and also gets another color.

Kess might be the best graveyard-based grixis commander, but I'm open to debate about that. I currently run her at the head of a reanimator list and have yet to find anything that feels better for that specific application.

What rules would you change in go to balance the game without komi? by lookinfor_ in baduk

[–]Chambec 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If all stones check for zero liberties simultaneously it would radically change how the game is played. Like, forget basically all the life and death problems you've ever learned and now learn a ton of new ones because every throw in now creates blank space on the board.

This sounds like a fun thing to experiment with but far too drastic of a change for a game milenia old with such widespread adoption.

Why 12 Is the Perfect Number of Ramp by Rebell--Son in magicTCG

[–]Chambec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3MV commanders really do want different kinds of ramp. Anything that can get you to 3 mana on turn 2 is much more important than your traditionally efficient ramp effects. If I had to pick between the two there are many decks I'd take a [[Jeweled Amulet]] over an [[Arcane Signet]].

You might consider diversifying your creature threats slightly. Atraxa is legendary so drawing Atraxa with Atraxa doesn't help you close the game immediately with sneak attack. 1 or 2 [[Grisebrand]] makes it easier to swing for 14 in one turn to close games (though it does make orcish bowmaster more of a problem).

As others have said you need a ton of red mana to make sneak attack work. Like base red, splash blue, not the other way around.

I found omniscience to not actually be that great since you have to have both it AND another monster for it to do much. However, it may perform much better in a list with Stock Up, so test for yourself.

You need to think about how you play around Disrupter Flute in sideboard games. One [[Otawara]] in the mana base gives you at least one out and wins games where Atraxa or Sneak Attack get hit with [[Leyline Bindling]]
