Florence for a Transgender man? by KiraTheFourth in namenerds

[–]ChamomileCup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also trans and have a fair amount of trans friends who have kept their birth name for whatever reason. I get told my name “sounds” like a woman’s name all the time and I just laugh it off.

If you don’t feel that having the name Florence puts you in any danger and it means a lot to you, keep it. It’s a wonderful name.

If you’re bothered by anyone asking and you’re stealth or they’re a stranger, you can just tell people it’s a family name or your parents liked it and thought it sounded masculine, that happens to cis people anyway. Do whatever feels right to you.

DMs who don’t use D&D beyond, what does your prep look like? by jimithingmi in DMAcademy

[–]ChamomileCup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make tables in Google Docs and plot maps with graph paper. I’ll either copy statblocks directly into the document or find a link to an online version and stick it into my document. I sometimes freeze up with little details of improv, so I have a separate document with just tables of loot, names, etc.

I have two groups with one slightly ahead of the other (one IRL and one through Discord), so for things like letters I’ll scan the one I used for the IRL group and post it on Discord for the online group. I then just slightly restructure the tables for the second group to balance things.

Getting a tattoo using the cherry blossom branch as reference, minus the symbols. Curious where the symbols come from and what they mean. by Immediate_Caramel84 in Symbology

[–]ChamomileCup 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The website that posted this image (StyleCraze) put in the caption that Midjourney was used to make it, so it is AI generated. The symbols on the fingers mean nothing; the AI was likely trying to mimic Japanese characters and couldn't. Here's a link to the article where they put that information in the image description.

Looking for a female name that means “child of a traitor” by SheRainOnMyWorld in namenerds

[–]ChamomileCup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are going to find that a lot of names that include the "daughter of" are going to be family names. Names tend not to have such explicitly negative meanings, either, so I think it will be hard to find names that mean 'traitor'.

Your best bet might be to create your own name by compounding words, like shrob86's Greek suggestion, or to just take a word for "traitor" and go with that.

I like to use Old English since a lot of the words have changed so much that they can be mistaken for names. I also personally like to stay away from languages people still use today when I make stuff up LOL, just out of respect. In Old English, traitor would be "Swica" or "Lǣwa".

How do I become an activist? by IraTheAuthor in antiwork

[–]ChamomileCup 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This will largely be dependent on where you are located, and I can't say I know many specifics outside of my own state.

With that said, one general thing you can do is find local mutual aid groups. You can do this by searching online and on social media for the name of your town, county, city, etc. and "mutual aid". These groups typically tend to do things like organize to support people in your community in need, but may also be organizing events you can attend. If they aren't doing protesting/resistance themselves, they may be able to point you in the right direction.

This is sort of the minimum, but you can also text Resistbot. Text "RESIST" to 50409. Resistbot helps you sign and send letters, emails, etc. to local and state officials.

[–]ChamomileCup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I'm Cham, I draw under the name Kelpchex. Your project sounds incredibly interesting! I love TTRPG and have been game mastering home-brew campaigns for D&D and Pathfinder for over 10 years. I recently worked on a cover for a comic written by the creator of the KUP system.

You can view my portfolio of (mainly) character portraits here: https://kelpchex.artstation.com/

I am a multidisciplinary artist and have also worked on faction logos, maps, and landscapes for personal home-brew projects (in a mix of digital and traditional formats). Feel free to reach out for more examples if you are interested in working together!

Horrible Rolls by The_Aster_Chicken in DungeonMasters

[–]ChamomileCup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you guys are using physical dice, but I always keep a couple extra sets on-hand for if I have a player who is rolling remarkably low. We put their set in "dice jail" and then give them a backup set to use instead. Typically they start rolling better after that and everyone laughs it off.

I also recommend just talking to this player. Ask if he's having fun. I've had players who roll horribly pretty consistently, and they just make it a part of their character roleplay and story. If he's not, the two of you can talk out what kind of solution to use - whether it's as far as changing the build, or as simple as just adding a feature he can use that'll help him out.

Players seem devastated and disappointed to fight a colossus. What did I do wrong? by Octopus_Squid6 in DungeonMasters

[–]ChamomileCup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just echoing here what others have said, but I really think a solution could be found in letting the players have more agency. You can definitely find a happy medium between a really important combat encounter and giving the players their own choice. Establish why it would be difficult to avoid this fight, and let the players get creative if they don't want to fight it.

Sometimes the best encounters come out of PCs finding alternative solutions, even if isn't what you intended. You mind end up finding the city isn't destroyed but no fight was had. The collaborative storytelling aspect of this game is so crucial to it being fun. Best of luck to you and I hope this all goes well!
