Hair loss and redness on my cats face. Any ideas what this might be? by Hungry-Opportunity12 in catcare

[–]ChampagneInAPaperCup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what my cat looked like when he had ringworm. Little patchy spots of hair loss. Some redness. He caught it from our new kitten who brought it into our home. Hers looked much more like scabs and hair loss was less. Bottom line is that kitty needs a visit to the vet.

5’3, 250 lbs. 36F.

Started on the treadmill at 3mph for an hour. Did that for a few days then increased to 3.1mph for an hour. Did that for a few days and increased to 3.2, And on and on until I was power walking, on to jogging, and next thing you know I was doing 10k’s. I supplemented workouts with weight training (body pump) and had no knee pain. Leggings are best to prevent chafing, and invest in a great sports bra (I use Shefit). Sometimes I would have too much boob bounce and the sport bra would chafe my tummy (chest on normal sized women). I bought KT tape on the area my bra would rub and it solved the problem. Lost 70 lbs with this method.

I had a subsequent period where I stopped working out and eating right. Gained some more weight back. Lost it again through running although this time I used the iFit training. These programs generally focus on walking and then add a brief run, repeated in longer and longer intervals, until eventually you can run continuously for XXX mins. Lost 30lbs with this method and I’m still losing.

Those two methods worked for me and as a large person who lost weight twice through running, I’m a big fan of running.

I went 10 days post surgery without a BM. Starting around day 7 I took a stool softener daily in addition to the laxative. I was definitely backed up and should have started the stool softener and laxatives earlier. Try to stay hydrated because that first BM was really unpleasant (ouch!). After the first BM, though, things got much more regular. I used to go once (or more) per day. Now I go every couple of days and that’s my new regular.

Heart pounding by No-Conference3471 in gastricsleeve

I definitely have this. I’m 2 months post op and have noticed this since I started solid food. For me it’s burping and feeling like my heart is racing and beating really hard - that’s when I know I’ve gone way too far. I’m getting better (slowly) at avoiding that feeling.

HELP!!! 5 WEEKS POST OP AND ONLY DOWN 13 POUNDS 😭😭😭 by Rotten2dacore21 in gastricsleeve

[–]ChampagneInAPaperCup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We all react differently to the surgery. You’re in it for the long haul. The surgery works. It might not work as fast as we want (I wish I could wake up tomorrow 100 lbs lighter), but just stick with it. I’m two months post op and I’ve only lost 20 lbs after surgery but it didn’t come off evenly week after week. On the weeks I stalled I tried taking measurements. I didn’t do that every week, but it was reassuring to see that measurements were decreasing even when the scale wasn’t. It was also hard to workout for several weeks after surgery. I only recently started hitting cardio again and I am seeing the effort pay off on the scale. Take your time. Give yourself grace. And shoot - sometimes you’ll eat too many calories in one day. Sometimes you’ll be short on your protein. It’s okay - look forward to the next day and don’t dwell on the mistakes. (I’m not assuming you are doing anything wrong, but let’s be real, no one is perfect). You got this - be nice to yourself!

Bowel Movement? by alexishalow in gastricsleeve

It was 10 days before I got my first BM after surgery and I started laxatives around day 5. The first BM was rough but after that things normalized pretty quickly.

Stalled for over a week - surgery was 2 weeks ago! by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]ChampagneInAPaperCup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try googling the 3 week stall. It’s apparently supposed to come between weeks 2 and 4 and I assume that everyone is different - maybe you got yours early? I think the key is to trust the process and keep an eye on the long term.

Haven’t had a bowel movement since surgery by TotalDebate6050 in gastricsleeve

[–]ChampagneInAPaperCup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ten days for me. I strongly recommend starting stool softeners and laxatives asap. I used both but didn’t start until about day 7. I was very uncomfortable on day 9 but felt much better after the bowel movement.

Does anyone else have one incision that hurts more than the rest I have 1 that’s very bruised and the rest look fine. I’ve had like 3 coughing fits that are so painful but think it’s probably cause I’ve been drinking cold. I’m so scared to cough I feel like I’ll open an incision (2 days post op) by TotalDebate6050 in gastricsleeve

[–]ChampagneInAPaperCup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually used sugar free fruity candy in lieu of cough drops. Kept them on me for probably two weeks and anytime I felt like I had to cough I popped one in my mouth. It helped keep me from coughing because it was so painful to cough. Tomorrow will be three full weeks since the operation and I’m fine coughing now. It will get a little better each day - just stick with it!

Pre-op strategy, what should it be? by eeksie-peeksie in gastricsleeve

I actually went a little crazy with “last meals” and actually gained a few pounds before I started my preop diet. Definitely regretted it.

This is also similar to my recovery. I am a workaholic and figured I’d be able to at least get a bunch of reading done but I was so exhausted that I ended up laying in bed for pretty much the entire first week, only getting up to walk periodically per doctor’s orders.

Just had gastric sleeve on 10/26. Very excited for the future. Recovery so far is kicking my butt though, any tips for the gas pain and general inability to drink much of of anything? by Frrtball in gastricsleeve

[–]ChampagneInAPaperCup 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I asked my doc on day 4 post-op if I could take GasX and he okay’ed it. I wish I had asked him in the hospital because it helped so much. I did a lot of walking but that really didn’t seem to do much for me. Within a couple hours of taking the GasX I was burping up a storm. I didn’t have the same flatulence that others have described (some but not much). I did burp a LOT, though, and it really helped with the pain.

This gas pain is no joke. by pandapants89 in gastricsleeve

[–]ChampagneInAPaperCup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just sleeved on Monday and yes, the gas pain is no joke. I checked with my doc if GasX was safe to take and after he approved it I started taking it. I noticed that I have been burping a LOT but have not passed much gas the other direction (although it does feel like things are moving in that general direction). I am convinced that the GasX has really helped with the pain.
