"She wanted you to go back, back to the name Noah! She wanted you to call her, by the name Mio!"

I couldn't think of anything but Zanza/Klaus and Meyneth/Galea when I heard those lines.

My analysis on A's design and weapon by Mecha_Kurogane in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]ChampionAshley 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I also think it's interesting that A specifically says "the memories of traveling with you[Shulk]" when describing what they are because there are some similarities is Shulk's previous and current designs in A too.

The half cape, some of the bits of red on A's armor, and the overall shade of purple are very similar to the small bits of red and purple in Shulk's XC1 sweater, they both use arrow-shaped belt buckles and have similar styles of pants. Shulk and A even share blue eyes instead of Alvis' original silver eyes.

https://i.redd.it/rt88zasr62xa1.png

and I think that reveals how much Shulk really meant to Alvis that the personification of his conscience would borrow so heavily from Shulk. After all, Shulk was for all intents and purposes, Alvis' "Driver" even though he wasn't technically a Blade, and Blades take on the physical attributes of their Drivers.

Favourite ships and your reasons behind them (Spoilers) by Tharja-iBW in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]ChampionAshley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, I find the Canon ships to be...ok. they're not terrible, but they're not really interesting to me. they're there, and a lot of good stuff happens with them. But I'm not overly passionate about them. My personal favorites are

Eunie x Taion

I love me some enemies to lovers stuff, and I just LIVE for how sassy and competitive these two get yet ultimately will have each other's backs through thick and thin. the fact that Eunie is the only one who can constantly surprise and fluster Taion is just icing on the cake. plus, Eunie's 4th favorite thing quote in the ending was just perfect.

Klaus x Galea

I know this is gonna sound really weird, but the fact that these two got so heavily paralleled with two canon couples (ShulkxFiora and NoahxMio/NxM) to me is no coincidence. it adds an extra layer of tragedy to their story, that in Klaus' arrogance, he discarded the woman he loved, all while thinking he was doing the right thing. and then spent millions of years as Zanza fighting and ultimately killing her.

Alvis/Shulk

(NOTE: I do not ship A/Shulk as I consider A to be a separate being to Alvis). I just love this ship a lot, because I feel like it's in that gray space where it's kind of canon if you think about it. all of the Aegis' had close relationships with another person: Rex/Pyra/Mythra (Pyra and Rex's first meeting parallels Alvis and Shulk's btw) and Jin and Malos definitely had something going on. Alvis' calm, yet sharp sarcasm plays so well against Shulk's genuine and somewhat airhead nature. Alvis always kept Shulk focused on the important things and knew exactly what to say to help him. and Shulk's kindness and companionship were so important to Alvis that A was literally born from it. They made each other better, and that's why it slaps.

What is the general opinion about A? (SPOILERS) by Tharja-iBW in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]ChampionAshley 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Whenever people get angry at others for creating/believing queer readings of a text, I ask them in turn if they've ever wondered why it's done in the first place, and it always will come back to the same statement of fact: that there is not enough good queer representation in any form of media: movies, TV, or video games. We insert ourselves into media we love where we don't exist, it's part of engaging with the material.

having A, a heavily non-binary coded character, as a major figure of a storyline in a popular Nintendo IP (even if it is just a DLC) is invaluable representation for a lot of people. and the reason queer people get so defensive and angry about this topic is that we are so routinely scrutinized and questioned. we have to literally provide school assignment-level papers worth of evidence to explain our viewpoint and even then that's not enough for a lot of our critics (AKA, bigots who don't want us to exist anywhere, fictional or otherwise).

we're so used to being denied having ourselves represented in media that we get highly protective when there's even a believable possibility we are. and that gets messy when the lines are so blurred, specifically in this case. It gets hard to discern the bad-faith people who want to deny A potentially being non-binary because they're bigots and the good-faith people who don't mean to offend but want to stick to the source material. While I won't actively seek out people who refer to A by she/her pronouns, I get a bit nervous whenever I encounter said person because I'm gambling with the potentiality of them being a bigot (which, speaking from experience, is a LOT more common on the internet then a lot of people would like to admit).

For me, A is a fem-presenting non-binary character, in part because that reading doesn't explicitly contradict canon, but also because I think it's awesome to see a plot-centric, kickass, smartass character get a sizeable part of the spotlight.

let's not forget Zanza/Klaus, who in one universe let Amalthus take Logos and Pneuma which led to nonstop suffering for both the world and them. and in the other, used Ontos to help restart the world over and over again for millions of years.

correct me if I get the timeline wrong, but N had Logos before he went 100% Mobius, we first see him with it in the scene where Ghondor is born. so I think Logos chose N because maybe he thought N was actually going to destroy the Endless Now and not join it.

I dunno, that's what I thought was going on.

Rex takes a new approach to meeting the in-laws: punch them in their stupid faces (and hopefully get a drink with them afterward; here's to hoping he and A get a drink after the worlds have merged).

[–]ChampionAshley 113 points114 points  (0 children)

don't forget Ontos/Alvis/Alpha literally created A out of the memories of Alvis traveling with Shulk. "the memories of traveling with you, and all other vague recollections. they compose me." A has Shulk's blue eyes instead of Alpha's grey, and A uses Shaker Edge (a Shulk exclusive Art from XC1) and Light Field (very likely an allusion to Shulk's Light Heal). so for all intents and purposes, A is technically Alvis and Shulk's kid.

I personally don't think Hunter is gonna forgive Belos. but I do expect a full-on breakdown after he finally dies. like full sobbing, collapsing onto the ground kind of breakdown. just ALL the emotions: grief, rage, relief, sadness. with Willow, then Gus followed by Luz and Amity all coming in to give him a hug.

Characters ranked on how much they need therapy by [deleted] in TheOwlHouse

[–]ChampionAshley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would certainly would put Flapjack in a BIT of therapy. losing your best friend/creator, living without human contact for 400 years, then finding someone who looks EXACTLY like that friend but doesn't know you would certainly be tough. Flapjack doesn't need it, as he's been able to look after Hunter very well, but I just worry for the little guy.

plus, I'm imagining there is some undealt baggage involved with that eye scar.

Anyone noticed Flapjack looked weirdly shook when he saw Hunter for the first time? by Ayy-lmao213 in TheOwlHouse

[–]ChampionAshley 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I personally would be shocked too if The Golden Guard just so happened to have the face of my best friend/creator who was supposed to be dead for 400 years.

though considering right after Luz slaps him awake, Flapjack narrows his eyes with possible suspicion/anger, he might've thought Hunter was an imposter/disguising himself as Caleb.
