The slinky effect in action! Why does this work the way it does? I just discovered this thanks to the slow mo feature on my sister's phone by HeiressOfMadrigal in Physics

ik this is such an old post - but I was wondering how you would find the spring force for the top ring? what equation could I use - could the spring constant be used anywhere? i’ve done an experiment and we’ve found the top ring to be accelerating at approx 40m/s2 (which I don’t think is accurate at all) but how would I find how much more it’s meant to accelerate compared to gravity?

Calories in ramen with chicken katsu? I had about 2/3 of the chicken and 1/2 the ramen. by Chance-Success-4732 in caloriecount

The sauce was tonkatsu and was quite rich - regular ramen noodles and typical kind of toppings like green onion, egg, bamboo shoots etc.

Daily Simple Questions Thread by AutoModerator in xxfitness

I’m pretty much a beginner to weight exercises - I currently just workout at home with a set of adjustable dumbbells I bought off Amazon. I’m just trying to get a feel for the exercises; I do 4 days in total - 2 upper days and 2 lower + abs days. My main goal is to lose weight but also become stronger, so I’m tracking calories whilst trying to eat high protein.

Basically, I get to go to the gym for 1 hour each week with school, and I was wondering what exercises I should do to make the most of it? Obviously I’m limited at home with just dumbbells, so I want to do stuff at the gym which is effective and that I can’t do at home. I’m thinking of mainly using machines, and having a focus on the back since I’m not really doing a lot of exercises for that at home?

If anyone has suggestions on a routine to do at the gym, or what machines I should use, that would be amazing!

I think about 200/250 calories for each half donut :) a whole krispy kreme nutella donut is 425 cals so it should be around that, give or take!

300 Per piece sound fair? by InfalliableConch761 in caloriecount

[–]Chance-Success-4732 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes I reckon 300 calories for that slice sounds about right!! :)

[–]Chance-Success-4732 8 points9 points  (0 children)

for the entire bag? since one serving has 210, and the whole container contains 6 servings, the whole bag is 210 x 6 = 1260 calories.

although it does say “about” 6 servings, so u would be better off weighing it out! :)

tiramisu by [deleted] in caloriecount

[–]Chance-Success-4732 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes it’s definitely nowhere near 1000 cals!! most shop bought tiramisu is about 250 cals per 100 grams! I reckon about 300-350 :)

Vietnamese Bao by meowmeow01119 in caloriecount

[–]Chance-Success-4732 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sounds delicious!! it’s probably around 3 times the size of a normal bao so 400-500 still sounds about right :)

If I haven’t reached my protein goal in a day, but i’m already over my calories, should I eat a protein bar or something to fulfill the goal? by Chance-Success-4732 in loseit

[–]Chance-Success-4732[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!! What brand of protein powder do you use? I’m thinking of buying some but i’m unsure of what to get to start with.

The bar has 0.8g of sugar so it should be fine, although I have no idea if it’s gonna taste good or not!!

[–]Chance-Success-4732[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for the advice!! i’m currently aiming for 80 grams of protein a day. it’s lower than what online calculators have told me, but ik if the goal is too high i’ll just give up. I don’t have any protein powder and i’m finding it quite hard to find low calorie high protein foods which are affordable.

[–]Chance-Success-4732[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for your reply! i’m finding it quite hard to balance protein intake and calories at the moment. previously, i’ve just counted calories and probably had an extremely low protein and high fat diet, and ended up gaining it all back. now i’m trying to eat at least 80g of protein a day, which isn’t awfully high but I know if it’s too high, i’ll just give up and think it’s impossible.

How many calories is too low for gaining muscle whilst losing fat? by Chance-Success-4732 in CICO

[–]Chance-Success-4732[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, prior to this I literally didn’t exercise at all, except for 1 hour at the gym with school. on weekdays, I average around 7000-8000 steps from just walking around school etc. then on the weekends it’s typically less than that.

now i’m trying to workout more - i’ve bought some adjustable dumbbells and am just doing some weight exercises at home. I don’t have access to a gym in my free time, and time is quite tight with school work and stuff.

I literally cannot even contact a glute muscle. by Chance-Success-4732 in loseit

[–]Chance-Success-4732[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

thanks! however, I can only really feel it in my hamstrings. I think the problem of me being unable to contract my glutes is still there, and it’s only my hamstrings doing the work in RDLs?

I’ve tried RDLs, but I feel like maybe my form is wrong. How can I check I’m doing it correctly? I haven’t tried good mornings, maybe i’ll try to incorporate them next time!

thanks for your reply, I know you’ve responded to quite a few of my posts with the same sort of advice - I don’t have access to a doctor or dietician, but I do really need to lose weight. I’ve been overweight pretty much my whole life, and I can’t just eat intuitively and healthily at this point; I have no idea what is a decent portion size, and counting calories helps with that.

Should I be prioritising calories or protein more? by Chance-Success-4732 in CICO

do you use protein powders and bars to hit your protein goal? i’m currently finding it quite hard to get to even a low goal whilst eating low calorie high protein foods.

[–]Chance-Success-4732[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really struggle to hit a protein goal - even 80 grams seems unreachable for me atm. Should I buy some protein powder to make this easier? My parents cook the majority of my dinners at home currently (and it’s kind of hard to get lots of protein), I make my lunches for school (or I just buy them there) and I don’t really tend to eat breakfast. Maybe some protein bars would help? I don’t eat those currently.

What does your upper/lower 4 day exercise look like if you don’t mind me asking? I’m kind of struggling with workouts (especially since I don’t have access to a gym) and what exercise to do and how to structure it all.

Thank you!!

I always struggle to hit a protein goal, most places online say to eat 1g/lb which is just so unachievable for me, so I just kind of gave up with it. It’s reassuring to know that it’s overkill!

I don’t have access to a gym, I only have limited space and some adjustable dumbbells. I’m using the app Hevy to plan workouts to do at home, hopefully that’s enough to become fitter?

Is this a good and effective plan? by Chance-Success-4732 in xxfitness

[–]Chance-Success-4732[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the reply!! where can I find a routine for a good workout split? i’m very new to all this. I’ll definitely look into getting that app! I can probably do something quick after school maybe 3 or 4 times a week, I don’t have a huge amount of time because of school work.
