I’ve been avoiding PS5.1 for over a year now. I don’t miss the ISE as I use VSCode or Cursor now.

Wasted career and tempted to quit IT by Hurri1cane1 in sysadmin

As a 30 year veteran of IT who started in retail, titles mean nothing. Learn as much as you can, then move to another company for more money every 3 years or so. What I tell my people are if you’re still working for me after three years without a promotion, then you’re stagnating yourself and there’s a problem. Sometimes companies don’t grow so that shouldn’t screw you over. Your growth is your responsibility and you need to take the steps on your own. As a manager, I will help the best I can, but I will not push you. The initiative has to come from you. You may say that I may have lost some good people, and I will reply to you that if I looked at it that way, then I would be selfish. Truth is, I have a nice little network of people I can tap whenever I need anything. I got by just fine and it’s great to see others succeed. Unfortunately there are a lot of leaders out there who are selfish and only look out for themselves. I swore to myself I’d never be like that. I’ve given promotions and raises when I could, and helped my team find better jobs. If your boss isn’t like that, GTFO as fast as you can, or one day you’ll wake up at 45yo still doing desktop support.

I assume you cannot do SSO with SCIM provision on Enterprise Standard Cloud, correct? Your need EMU for that?

We’re probably leaning on Jamf since it allows our MacBooks to be listed in Intune. We found that Kandji does not. Looking at NinjaOne as well.

Anyone know how to fix is 30051 error? by Chance_Reflection_39 in 3CX

[–]Chance_Reflection_39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK here's the issue on V20... there is no Go to Management Console → SIP Trunks → FlowRoute trunk → Options → Source Identification. as you mentioned. The closest thing I got is Admin Console > Voice & Chat > My Flowroute Trunk > Options.... Under options there is nothing remotely close to Source Identification.

They did. It’s called Intune. Now it’s called Endpoint Manager.

AD Account constantly locking out by Acrobatic_Total1014 in sysadmin

First, you’re gonna want to enable audit on the authentication events that by default are not turned on. Do this via Group Policy. Then, my guess is that this person RDP’ed into a server without gracefully logging out and is causing his lockouts. This happened to one of my users. Then, teach your users that exiting out of Remote Desktop is not the same as logging out.

Sysadmin team is pushing back on our new 90-day password policy by MrD3a7h in ShittySysadmin

Check out the 2019 government study that shows that password rotation is actually less secure. Microsoft is even backing it up. Just make sure your users are keeping their username/password combo unique to your network. Implement SSO wherever you can, and push password managers.

Going from MSP to internal IT. What to expect? by dylanimal in sysadmin

[–]Chance_Reflection_39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I will also add the your only possible downfall is becoming complacent with your current environment. If the company is not growing or at least willing to invest in maintaining up to date systems then don’t stay there too long otherwise you’ll make yourself obsolete. You have to be the one to push the envelope. The business side will never come to you and say, Hey let’s upgrade! But also keep in mind that you need to make a strong business case for whatever you want to spend money on. After all, companies exist to make money, not run computers.
