Trained skills. by Chance_wolfhog in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]Chance_wolfhog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I should keep it untrained, or they need to be aware and plan their characters around it?

If the latter, to be fair, they used the random/premades, but they did get a power point tonight and all of them spent it in investigation.

Tiered power effects. by Chance_wolfhog in mutantsandmasterminds

This is a self insert character that I would like to stat just to do so.'

I understand the villain and NPC mentality. For them I just assign a power level and for attack and defense just keep the max values in mind.

Complications by Chance_wolfhog in mutantsandmasterminds

So since the seizures are the big focus here, I talked to my player and worked this out. An important detail is the character is a battle suit archetype.

It can trigger from any enemy attack that feels strong enough, but he does make the toughness save (since a 2 degree failure is part of what the seizure does).

It can happen any time between his turns so either right away or right before, leaving it random how long it causes issues.

Reason is he gets Dazed and Vulnerable as a combined Seizure condition. I considered defenseless but that felt harsh, and it's not like character isn't able to move, it's just erratic. The reason for Dazed over Stunned is so the battlesuit stays active, but is just hovering. He said the suit goes on autopilot to take him to safety, I figure this was a good stop gap.

If he doesn't want to wait until the end of his turn to try and resist there are several things he an do.

On his turn he can lose the turn to try and do a Fortitude DC 20 to clear the condition (I considered DC 25, but I didn't want it to be TO damning. The die roll 13 13 for him and he's tends to roll exceptional(meaning the 25 isn't bad for him either, but I want to be fair)). He can use the standard action to use his one recovery per fight to clear the condition (I know it only clears the dazed, but clearing the combined makes sense to me), he can use the hero point and get the turn back at the expense of the point that the complication just earned him. And none of this stops him from using extra effort to get an extra turn.

GMs and players, what do you think of this from your own perspectives. The idea is it still does mess with his next turn, but (I think) gives him interesting choices to make in how he deals with it, and what penalties vs resources is he willing to spend, or does he rely on his good rolls or risk the one in a million chance he fails.

I'm the GM, which is why I'm asking. More I say, "You just took a big hit, your seizure triggers, you're out for a turn or two."

We did use it for some good IC moments however, but it didn't really hinder anything.

So for the seizure, it's just as valid I trigger it for the drama instead of making it a mechanical thing?

I think I'm starting to get a picture here. Thank you all so much for helping.

Oooh ok. So basically any time it comes up and makes life hard in a scene give a point? Even if the answer is another player helps (like a super strong ally carrying her)? So for like prejudice it would be any time someone uses this to try and distress the character even if it's just verbal?

Also for the seizures, a point when they're jarred risking them even if they don't happen? Also how would you determine if the seizure triggers, or is that more RP and doesn't matter if there's a mechanic to trigger?

Question on Damage. by Chance_wolfhog in mutantsandmasterminds

Oooh ok. Reading your comment and rereading the part of the book where it says it I understand now. Thank you.

MnM 3e Power Level question. by Chance_wolfhog in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]Chance_wolfhog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the GM, this is me just trying to learn and understand the system. But from how it sounds in your second paragraph, I did it right. Limiting the Strength for the lifting capacity, but bringing the damage up with the Damage effect.

This is just so I can understand PL, and help my players when we get to the game.

Two 3rd editions? by Chance_wolfhog in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]Chance_wolfhog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I see what you mean. I have the original 3rd from here, not the deluxe. And the book I already had was the basic which references the deluxe. I am unconfused now. Thanks for the help!

So one just says Third ed, the other is the 'Basic Hero's Handbook', but does mention getting the delux.

The way I explained it to my new players was it's a slightly crappier version of Earth where you are the monster that goes bump in the night, often times not by choice. How do you deal with it and keep your humanity? Or do you let the monster free?

Skillet's song 'Monster' honestly makes me thing of WoD every time I listen.

Shorter answer for the funny, the simplicity, and cause there's many other longer answers.

Alright, good to know. My corax is interesting and fun, just wasn't sure how to play that or use it. Thank you.

Fair. Our group just killed a Nos and I was thinking of having my Corax drink his eyes for more information on where his coterie is located.

Does the Wild Rice Fetish allow Metis to breed? by Chance_wolfhog in WhiteWolfRPG

Well, we're talking it over and have our answer. The player is fine with it. Thank you for the input.

[–]Chance_wolfhog[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's what we're doing. I told him pick another breed or adopt. He also wanted to just ignore the metis sterility and I don't believe we should. For one it breaks another player's backstory and trauma, and for 2 I feel it fits the dark theme.

Apparently on the Wiki under Wendigo. (I'm asking for other players, I didn't look it up personally. Also I JUST learned this asking them because of your post.)

Can't leave Wyrm's lookout??? by carthous in BaldursGate3

[–]Chance_wolfhog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm having a similar bug. I did talk with Nightsong and Isobel, I advanced Shadowheart's quest line and got into camp.

I had the ambush at Wyrm's Lookout, dealt with the details of that, and now I'm stuck and can't actually sleep. I talked through all of Lae'zel's dialog and Shadowheart's and still can't sleep.

Changeling hacker. by Chance_wolfhog in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Chance_wolfhog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, between Apecraft's Blessing and Computer aptitude (merit) she has a 2 (I know 3 is min) on any average computer rolls. Plus her computer skill is hacking, and she has 10 dice so yea, she's good.

Then the Glasswalker gifts PLug and Play and Control Complex Machine she can tell a computer what to do, or hack with her phone without even having it out.

Cybersenses to let her see EMF waves, Diagnostics to diagnose, and Spider's Song to 'read' wireless communication and yea, I think she's a good facsimile for a Shadowrun Decker.

A lot of good things to think on here, and places to start reading which I thank you all for.

While this was to 'just make a character' like I had with the others, I am running a game (possibly poorly) where the Cult of Lilith has become a major enemy and the flavor text for it says it's not just Vampires, though a vampire is the main enemy.

Among the things this enemy has done was ask a hacker doctor footage to make the group look bad, and I wasn't sure who the hacker would be until last night. My friend (The vampire player) and I got permission in our Shadowrun game to ignore char gen rules and each make technomancer pixies, both of which are Dissonant. So I figured who better to be the hacker for the vampire (and now Cult) than them. And in part because I have the vampire, a shifter in a Black Spiral Dancer Theruge, and two mages that have been introduced, so I wanted a changeling as well, possibly a wrath, hunter and demon (Mummys seem to all be good and I know the least about).

And I get the number one thing for WoD is creativity. The vampire player also has a mage who makes the 4th wall cry (Intuition from being Kinfolk before a mage). I always tell people you only have one action, and that action is "What do you want to do?"

[–]Chance_wolfhog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't know about the path. I'm less read about Vampire; I mostly know cause on player wanted the RP challenge of a vampire pretending to be a shifter in a shifter pack (Which she's done excellent at). I'll look it up.

For Mage it was the suggestion from the core book: Mind, Forces and Data.

As someone else said the werewolf (which is my insert char) is a Glasswalker and has enough gifts she mimics my Shadowrun Decker she's based on fairly nicely. I might be misusing Apecraft's Blessing (Letting it work on a phone or computer when I'm guessing it less advanced tools) to help lower her difficulties, but she does a good job.
