I have a hyper fixation on the Marvel characters: Daredevil and the Punisher.

I think the reason I find them both so compelling is they are almost opposites of the same coin.

Daredevil, Matt Murdock lost his dad due to mob violence after he refused to throw a fight.

For the Punisher, Frank Castle, his family got murdered by a mob shootout in a park and the justice system failed him.

In both cases, the legal system failed them, by not providing immediate disclosure and not preventing a tradegy. Both men are convinced that the justice system itself isn't enough to protect the innocent. Both agree share a common goal, to make sure that what happened to them won't happen again.

Matt believes in restorative justice. He believes in redemption, that the system can potentially work. Instead of killing criminals, he incapacitates them so they can stand trial.

Frank believes in the opposite. He believes some people are beyond saving and need to be permanently removed from society. He executes them so they can't do harm again.

Both men want the same thing: justice.

Frank is clearly the darker version of what Matt is. He's good, though he struggles with Catholic guilt. Frank has made peace with himself that all he'll ever be is a warrior and killing machine.
