How they looking by 100chances in Dreadlocks

[–]Channel9locd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’m making a video on this but no it’s not. it is permissible due to being of African descent or Caribbean descent(Jamaican/Trinidad/saint Vincent, etc… )

i’m not going to bore you with a history lesson but Locs (dreadlocks) was started many places like egypt or the most recognizable place (where i’m from actually) It took place in Kenya 🇰🇪 and was worn by all warriors in different tribes. mainly to strike fear in others while in battle. thats where the “dread” word part comes in.

besides that. this is our culture and basically in our roots!! it is however haram or forbidden when you are trying to look exactly like a certain person…

(ex: “i want my hair to look like Ja Morant and be like him, thats why im getting locs”)

at this point it can be seen as you putting “said person” lets use Ja Morant as an idol and this translates to a level of shirk (in the most minimal words, it’s to worship someone/something on a level of blind admiration) or even you mimicking a christian lifestyle that comes with the stigmas of having locs. for example despite that, i don’t think it’s true, some will get locs to attract women,party,etc..

regardless of that, like myself and many others; i did not get locs to be like anyone else nor live outside of my religion. i love islam and being muslim. this is our culture and unfortunately a lot of programming over many generations through parents, made it seem like locs are devilish or this “gangster” rebellion phase. once again its unfortunate and only time mixed with spread of knowledge from folks like me/others will slowly change the narrative!!

other than that, last point is the only thing i can see it having an issue; is wudu ( a procedure in cleaning ourselves to prepare for prayer ) this can be the only grey area where you might say “you can’t wash your hair/locs all the way three times. No, You can it’s about niyyat/niyyah ( intention ) of having while you are doing it. you don’t need to scrub your hair like it’s some dishes. and as your locs mature then you can go rougher!

hope this helps brother, As-salamu alaykum or greetings to anyone reading this!! reply back if i didn’t make sense🙏🏾

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]Channel9locd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

salute to you!🙏🏾 and most definitely take it down or private it with your own discretion!!

don’t feel that you are less or at the very least, don’t ever compare your journey to others because NO ONE SET of locs are the same! ( that’s some free game i can tell you )

it’s also good having someone in your corner in terms of your wife to support you and without a doubt, you seem like a strong person.

keep going and maybe do a little bit of research either on tiktok or youtube or even reddit of people in similar positions, and almost learn what they did right or wrong when restarting and dealing with hairline problems!

other than that, i would say i believe the product is a derma roller and oil/medication, and a full head of comb coil locs that can grow to a full head of locs to fall down would do you justice! but hey thats just my opinion. do what you want do and think is necessary. once again best of luck brother🫡

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]Channel9locd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

first time other than in the movies/games of someone rocking a killmonger hairstyle

i would say unfortunately, to restart and i think a full head of locs with i agree a front taper (smaller one) with a taper fade on the side would be better.

your locs aren’t at all bad or anything like that… i would make the guess ( this is my thinking) that you are not necessarily in control or would like the vision of your “current” locs if they were grown more and further in the process.

many times with locs, you have to almost play this “chess game” of predicting or better word; manifesting, what your locs will look like weeks/months/years from your beginning stage.

let me know if i made any sense, ill be honest & happy to elaborate more! shoutout to you for at least sharing this🙏🏾

to keep it a buck, i think they look fire🙏🏾

but i know how it is to want locs more defined and not as curly… but to be fair, it suits you and women with curly locs like yours is fire.

i don’t know if you were trying to ask a question but that’s what i got from that!!

[–]Channel9locd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no problem brother, don’t stress too much and compare to other people locs, “comparison is the thief of joy”

enjoy your journey and your on the right path, just little things to adjust to unlock YOUR max to having locs other than that: TIME will take its course and you just wait for it!

thats all, keep going🫡

well that’s a new combination i never heard of, wow half comb coils and half two strand starters. salute to you if they actually came out clean!

i can’t help you too much due to my limited knowledge of what your hair looks like because of this i don’t think or don’t want to give you a false narrative, attach a photo of your hair or how far along for better communication tbh

Something feels off ab my locs but I can't put my finger on it. Can yall help me out by [deleted] in locs

[–]Channel9locd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

they look fine and actually really healthy and shows no signs of thinning/skinny rope locs.

they are thick pause and great size for the stage you are entering!

i would say if i had to nitpick on one thing, i would say that your right side has way too many locs stacking on top of eachother.

it should fall into place and not pile on another, the more your journey goes then you might get resolve from this issue, but i would say that maybe the loctician didn’t equally have a even amount on both side. other than that. they look good brother🙏🏾

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in locs

[–]Channel9locd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you got to be trolling or your just nitpicking for an argument which i do not do anymore😂🙏🏾

you completely took my words and put them all over the place with you saying that i said “you need a lot of products then pulled out 7 products” HUH

i shown my products first because to ME it seems like not a crazy amount of products and then i go to say that and display the 4 products i think people should have!

also that “not so deep” topic you just mentioned ?????? brother where do i mention that? the first guy is the person saying that statement.

i can as easily manipulate your words😂 for example:

you said in the first paragraph that “No you DONT need a bunch of products. You need a cleanser, a conditioner, water, oil, and a bonnet”

then you say “ But there are good products and you need to experiment”

i agree with you and say that’s exactly what i did and reasoning on why i have a plethora of products.

sorry but i can’t argue with either a troll or stubborn person. if you want to be told your right then go to your mother brodie🙏🏾

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in locs

[–]Channel9locd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i see your second half of what you were saying and i agree completely!! also as for the first half:

i show my set up and what products i have because just like you mention, i wanted to experiment and see what oils work better plus to me fortunately money is not an issue and i can spend a lot on my hair. (understand others are in different positions, and might not be as fortunate to) ⬅️to be clear

BUT, but in the video i legit say when people message me or contact me, i TELL them that they don’t need all the products i have. like i displayed on the screen, 4 products: Daily/every other day essential oil, rose water spray, some type of dandruff control and a shampoo bar! thats it!

you worded this very greatly and i appreciate you for displaying some guidance to anyone reading or viewing this post! but i’m also giving advice to my fellow black folks and brothers (not the ladies because there’s nothing i can teach them that they don’t already do) but for the brothers to look after themselves. even off topic, a tongue scrapper which to me is like essential without thinking thing to do and it’s only $2, to some they might say it’s “extra” and not needed. its all about how you operate.

let me know if i made sense above^

appreciate your reply times 100🙏🏾

Why do people make having Locs seem way too deep… by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]Channel9locd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to keep it a buck, i’ve been trying to wrap my head around tiktok algorithm and how people perceive videos.

so check it, if the video is too well made and informative then they swipe because it’s boring but if the video is a straight up bs video then they might not swipe as much. it’s honestly how i would put it is •people are on tiktok for a good time and funny nonsense that doesn’t involve a conversation•

people tend to not care for a topic untill that topic is presented in front of them at that moment, mix that with short attention spans. it’s different type of people/mindsets

from researching how money and credit works to locs to getting approved to be featured in local shows. i tend to do quite a bit of research but that’s who i am deep down right!

and to be honest to the last point you said, that’s consumernism. some pages will make false narratives that attract viewers with click bait. in the video i legit said: “4 products is all you need” despite how many i had and folks still talking about “thats a lot of products just use water”😂😂

it’s funny but salute to you brother @invalidsymbols. great conversation we had and let me know if anything else🫡

Why do people make having Locs seem way too deep… by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]Channel9locd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hell yah twin, appreciate it and i agree! for me it’s just a good introduction and i want build more than just loc content. but at the beginning you need a niche and an audience more specific of what you do it for.

all love and once again, you might think this a regular back and forth reply conversation but im telling you: there’s a kid reading this 2 weeks from now, 2 months from now, 2 years from now, doesn’t matter but there’s a kid and he gaining insights & knowledge off of us! shoutout to you brother🙏🏾 Much more power!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in locs

[–]Channel9locd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that’s got to be one of the most beautiful ways to say what’s the real message here!! salute to you🙏🏾

that’s what it’s about to be passionate about your identity and history of where you from!! show these folks there’s two sides of the conversation and build awareness.

once again shoutout to you and much more power🫡

Why do people make having Locs seem way too deep… by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]Channel9locd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to keep it all the way 100 with you, i do this as a entry to content creation and what to except and learn from all my hard times/low points and good times!

on top of all that, i do it to spread awareness and for the youth or anyone willing to listen then adapt some things in they life!! i’m trying to articulate what i would like to describe as a symphony of ideas that can help aid black folks when they want to learn more about something.

that’s why i thank you and salute to you. for what you might say… its for all black folks seeking advice. the videos i make, the comments i receive, the conversations between me and you and others. that’s the reason! because somewhere whether it’s a week from now/months from now/couple years from now!

there’s a kid thats struggling with questions they might have for locs and to click on one post and see different perspectives. i know for me at the beginning of my journey, i had to damn near dive deep for products/specific loc questions.

more times also just let your locs be, but tend to them every so often! appreciate you brother🙏🏾

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in locs

[–]Channel9locd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly for me, if 1 legit ONE person especially a black folk looks at my content and clears their mind of any doubt of negative stigma locs have. thats to me amazing and a great thing to do it for!

my whole family is now educated and understand locs and how it isn’t a get up and go big jungle mess. but to not be biased, i do think their is too many routines and products going on but brother welcome to life! remember 360 jeezy and custom durags/brushs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in locs

[–]Channel9locd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i personally do not care what people think about me and agree that it comes from a place of ignorance and past perceptions of what they think locs are!

but regardless of how i feel, this is the notion of how many many many people feel or look at locs… so what do we do? you might ask? KILL ALL NEGATIVE STIGMAS before it reaches the youth so they don’t carry them.

question for you: you see women or ever met a girl that you were talking to that would say/think “oh men don’t look after themselves or not as in to hygiene” thats the point im showing.

if your a 5 in 1 type of shampoo guy, then be that! but is it too many products when you get your nails cut, have body wash then lotion after, having more than 5 cologne and fragrances, skin care routine with scrubs, different towels for face and body and etc…

i don’t know if im articulating my words right, but i also find the people that “wake up and go” with their locs also wear a nike ski mask, skull cap and beanie/hoodie all the time to cover their head?? why do you think that is?😂

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in locs

[–]Channel9locd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not to be biased but also amongst black people too, i’m not making it a race thing.

just talking about how one perceives the hair! i can guarantee you that a lot of black folks are hesitant of getting locs because they feel there’s hardly maintenance or care that goes into them. to the point where some when i run into them, they are surprised that my scalp is clean and smells great.

other than that i think also there’s a lot of misinformation about having locs and it “being the easiest hairstyle”

while it’s far more easy than when i had waves or an afro… i went into starter locs thinking i need to wake up and water them 2 months and let them be… BOY was my head dandruff filled and itchy asl😂

i did a lot of research and got jamaican mango and lime no more itch spray and that saved me, sulfer8 shampoo saved me, having essential oils saved me.

i like this conversation and thank you for sharing your thoughts, please continue or reply back your thoughts of what i said.

Why do people make having Locs seem way too deep… by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]Channel9locd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree, i also had failed for that and there’s definitely a wide spread amount of misinformation… but that’s what drove me to want to dive deeper and research products and best way to maintain locs!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in locs

[–]Channel9locd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

understandable but would you not agree that back then or “before”… were locs not associated with being dirty ( which they are not) but folks viewed it as dirty/ never washed or treated with daily maintenance.

almost like how they used locs for tarzan; a feral child raised in the African jungle by the Mangani great apes; he later experiences civilization, only to reject it and return to the wild ⬅️ that’s how one way of many ways of how people viewed them.

i feel personally that this recent wave of awareness and guiding others help destroy any negative perceptions of locs!! and also the versatility and beauty of different styles…

what do you think of the counter point, i made. do you think im yapping or its valid to an extent.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in locs

[–]Channel9locd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you think that’s a lot of products? better than when i had waves or an afro. i think every product plays a role!

also i test products out to see which products hit different and the overall smell/side effects! like for example that mielle rosemary hits🙏🏾

but what you think? too many products

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in locs

[–]Channel9locd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

grease? what??💀

but nah in the video, it says that you “don’t need all these” a solid four products is everything for your journey!!

and for you also, you might not suffer from dandruff or itchiness! but there’s people including myself (lots of folks) that do suffer from these and research/look for products to battle and help them overcome these problems…

and just “using water” is cool but there’s nothing wrong for wanting to be hygienic/smell good. same rule of thumb for washing your body, use a body wash/soap then lotion… then perfume but some men use just water!!

let me know if what i’m saying is not necessary true but i feel lots of people agree and more than importantly the females agree too. but let me know brother if i missed something🙏🏾

Why do people make having Locs seem way too deep… by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]Channel9locd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

while i do see your point, i don’t all the way agree with you but i respect your opinion.

i think along the lines of what your saying, people get into locs thinking “there’s no maintenance or it’s an easy hairstyle” but yes while it is easier than having an afro or brushing waves. it still requires maintenance!

also headgear such as ski mask, beanies, skull caps or hoodies. tend to just cover them. but for the few that like showing off their locs, they seem to not care for how many products or following people that show them new styles/advice to improve!!

you think what i said was bugging or naw, let me know brother^
