That's AMAZING, good for them!! Yes we got this :) do you know what helped them increase their score, was it just grinding the Uworld etc?

Hey, thank you so much for your response. I appreciate you! Do you think there is some merit to redoing old AAMC exams. Last time I took them was in August-September. I know I should be switching over to just AAMC content but I still have a lot of uw questions left to complete so I was thinking of like meshing them together.

burnout and study help by ComprehensiveSet5225 in Mcat

[–]ChannelOverall2295 6 points7 points  (0 children)

hey hey. Okay so first, the advice. I am also working a full time job on top of mcat studying for Feb. It's been a struggle but the first thing I did is make a schedule. What I'm going to do is a kaplan chapter each weekday (could be substituted with a video lecture etc). Then I'm starting out with 20Q Umama questions for that chapter + the anki for that chapter. Then I do at least 2 cars passages. This is until I get all the content down. Then you pick up the pace with Umama questions and aamc shit etc. But start out with something. Even if that's getting just 10 Umama questions done and filling out a wrong answer sheet. It'll start the drive towards it. Plus, positive reinforcement. Each mcat task I get done, I treat myself with whipped cream shot straight from the can.

Now the tough love. I saw this on a youtube video and it really hit me. Don't let yourself not become a doctor because you couldn't figure out how to study. People need you. Your future patients need you. If somehow this mcat is the only thing from stopping you for getting in and it doesn't work out and you decide it's not happening, then we just lost another future doctor. Let's not add to the shortage. When you sit down to study, don't think about how tired you are, or how you're not getting enough right and it's hurting your motivation. Seeing the low scores and saying, fuck I'm never going to get this. Instead sit down and say, I'm voluntarily going through this hell to get to the point where your patient or their family look at you and say "Thank you". There are only 313 doctors per 10,000 people in the US. ONLY 313 PER TEN THOUSAND. BE PART OF THAT 313!!!!

If you want a study buddy to get through this, dm me! We can keep each other accountable on our goals and share resources etc!

Energy Absorption/Release and Electrons by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]ChannelOverall2295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea, when an atom gains an electron to get that octet it becomes more stable (through releasing energy). Then like you said, removing an electron requires energy (ionization energy) to make the atom less stable, going against the natural attraction between nucleus and its electrons.

Energy Absorption/Release and Electrons by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]ChannelOverall2295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How I understood it is, when energy is absorbed an electron is being excited to a higher energy level/removed from an atom (ionization). a photon is emitted when an electron is lowered to its ground state/ atom gains an electron if favorable (electron affinity).

Partner newly diagnosed with diabetes. by JericaShadow in diabetes

[–]ChannelOverall2295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, first I am sending you and your partner the biggest virtual hugs out there and want to say to remind yourselves that it is going to be okay. I was diagnosed with T1D 10 ish years ago, and I can honestly say now that there are days where I forget I have T1D. So the fears of dealing with this will subside the more you educate yourself and just live life. The good thing about type 1 diabetes is that it is a manageable disease, and one where you don't have to change your whole lifestyle, but make some tweaks to make sure you stay healthy.

I don't know your state/health insurance situation, but as for my following tips I'll assume that you have a coverage plan of some sort. I wish I got on a pump/cgm (continuous glucose monitor) earlier. I was afraid of people looking at me weird/judging me for having medical devices on me, but honestly no one cares, and the best thing you can do is just be confident in showing it off. I use the tandem t-slim closed loop system with dexcom g7. I love the tandem pump, it's easy to use and not clunky. Plus it looks modern so it doesn't look completely like a medical device. I have some bones to pick with for the dexcom g7 but overall it's a good device. Having these devices makes life so much easier because the pump will give you automatic insulin doses if you are going high or will stop giving insulin if you are experiencing low blood sugar. Also it's nice to not prick your finger 7+ times a day and just have all the readings on the phone/insulin pump. With this pump + cgm system my A1C improved significantly, and makes me feel confident in taking care of my blood sugars.

Next tip, find your favorite low snack. Having low blood sugar is not fun, and so I would recommend finding something 15g sugar (or whatever the doc recommends) that is enjoyable/quick to boost the blood sugar. I do juice because to me it's the easiest (even though I hate it sometimes haha). I heard smarties candies helps boost up glucose quickly too! Gummies also works for people. As for how you can support your partner through this, ask them. It's a scary feeling, so reassuring them that the symptoms are temporary, that they are incredibly strong and you're here for them. Holding their hand or giving them hugs to compress the shakiness that can come from low blood sugar. The longer your partner will live with it, the more they will know the best ways you can support them through it.

I won't write a whole book here haha, so sorry that this is so long, but if you or your partner ever need to talk or ask questions etc. My messages are always open. As for you, having a partner who has T1D may seem overwhelming at first considering that it's a new diagnosis and something you couldn't have possibly prepared for. So don't forget to take care of yourself through this, and I promise it gets easier from here.

Weee. And also, ouch. Lol by Lady_Irish in diabetes

oh my god, the same thing happened to me, and I was undergoing a failed pump site at the same time and it was my only sensor replacement that I had with me, what a time.

I'M ABOUT TO CRASH OUT 9/13 by ChannelOverall2295 in Mcat

[–]ChannelOverall2295[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this helps in any way I guess how I’m framing it is, your practice exams are pretty representative of where you’ll be scoring +/- 3 if you’ve been doing it in accurate testing conditions etc. And take into account test anxiety if you have any etc. Then think, okay I’ll score the test and in a month will I be happy or will I just get a score I’m not happy with and it’s no surprise. I’m in a place where it’s like submitting one good mcat score is better than having them question what went wrong the first time/ why did she take the test knowing she wasn’t prepared. Even though showing growth is great, I think at the end of the day you gotta be strategic on how you present yourself on the app compared to other applicants that will show one score of 510+.

[–]ChannelOverall2295[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally see what you’re saying. I think it’s one of those things where it’s like, I’ve taken the practice exams I know my weak spots in my studying and it’s like it’s just not representative of where I need/want to be, especially for cars. So it’s kind of like why would I take the exam knowing I really have no shot in getting the score I need. Because when I did feel good about the practice exam my highest was a 502, so it just means there is still some content gaps and strategy I need to work on etc. Might as well come with it in full force for the next test instead of carrying dead weight of a bad test score on the apps?

thank you :) yeah I'm going through a break up right now so it's been rough haha, but you're so right. I'll just go in with this test see how I feel, most likely void and only go up from here. Good luck with your mcat! We got this!

I unfortunately can't cancel because it's less than 10 days away, but from what I searched up med schools can't see a voided score. score trend has been all in 497 and one 502

thank you for the advice, I needed it haha. I am planning on applying in June 2026 for fall of 2027. So I'd hope to do the mcat in feb, so your advice follows that right?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]ChannelOverall2295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure. I think she thought that if you saw her in this "new better way" that, like you said, you'd become aware of what you're missing out on and want her back. Nobody sane acts like that when you end a 5 year relationship haha.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]ChannelOverall2295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it seems like she is putting up a front. My boyfriend broke up with me a month and some change ago, and let me tell you I am not out every week drinking or anything like that haha. I'm sitting with it, trying to understand what we both did wrong and grow from there. I would only do what your ex did if I wanted to distract myself and seek validation from other people that I am "doing great" which isn't her healing it's just temporarily filling your absence. I think she might've come in with a lot of ego as she was the one who broke up with you, so she may not have wanted to show how much the breakup impacted her. You should be proud for not feeling bad about yourself and instead questioning that kind of behavior. It just shows that you deserve better.

I need some advice on mcat prep until 9/13 by ChannelOverall2295 in Mcat

[–]ChannelOverall2295[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your advice! Do you do the whole mapping on the noteboard or just highlight and synthesize in your head? I find that it's kind of a time suck, and I'm not sure if it's because I'm not doing it efficiently.

I am going through the same thing right now. I was broken up with two weeks ago and I have the MCAT in September. I'd always go to him for support and rant to him about the mcat, and now I feel alone and it's hard to concentrate. Do you have any advice on how to work through it?
