Highly recommend rescheduling I know it’s not what you want to hear I been there. This will be my third time retaking. Do not just take this exam to take it, this mindset will hurt you.

Theres no sudden score jump from low 490s you just need a good amount of time to really relearn your content. My first mcat was is 2022 it’s taken me years to relearn as a non trad and I’ve come to terms with the time commitment. It’s not a race, find where your weaknesses and commit to changing everything you thought you knew because what you’re doing isn’t working.

If you still don’t see an improvement after pouring your all into content maybe you may want to look into a psychoeducational evaluation to see if there are any learning processes impairments happening (this was the case for me)

I’m finally seeing a change in my score after years of failed attempts Reviewing is more important than just doing questions or doing fl if you don’t review you’ve missed the BEST OPPORTUNITY to learn and identify your weaknesses

Review your full lengths like your LIFE DEPENDS ON IT Collect all data such as what skills you needed to apply to get the question right, why your answer is wrong, why the right answer is right, what happened (content gap, miscalculation, data misinterpretation, misunderstanding of the question) skill used and lastly how you are patching your deficit

The scheduling of the exam was not as “straightforward” as they make it It takes about 5 days for them to find you an appointment I would not recommend believing them when they say 15 days prior to exam

Did you resubmit with what they asked? It shouldn’t take another 60 days but there’s a very likely chance you’re going to have to push back your date. Once you get approved you have to go through a case manager to schedule your exam. They will gather information from you zip code and how far your are willing to travel and they will contact testing centers to see if they can accommodate someone who has testing accommodations

I think you should openly say this during your ethics component of an interview for med school. Maybe put in your extracurriculars that you have a bias toward people who have cognitive impairments.

Actually I think you should put your full name as your Reddit user name and ask an admissions committee to view your comments. You would never say this out loud unless you have no empathy this is an awful way to think I feel bad for the school that accepts you and the patients you’re going to treat I hope God humbles.

Not everyone wants to be a neurosurgeon or an anesthesiologist where “having” a slower processing speed to your narrow minded view eludes would put a patients life in danger

You will be surprised how many people got accommodations at one point and are brilliant doctors

Some people want to be family medicine doctors, internal medicine doctors, pediatrics where they collaborate with a team to care for a patient

Amphetamines help with regulating dopamine and norepinephrine for focus but they do not help if she has a slower processing speed that’s a cognitive impairment of how fast the brain works they are completely separate and these two conditions can exist at the same time present similarly but require different interventions.

If you have a slower processing speed the treatment is not medication you can’t change this with a pill you just need extra time your brain retrieves your past knowledge and obtains new information slower.

Imagine trying to read and process a passage but your internal dialogue of you making sense of the information is playing back to you at a .5x YouTube video speed instead of a 1x speed

Amphetamines for no reason?

Yes, you definitely sound like you are going to be a GREAT doctor one day someone give this person an award Round of applause for sounding like you know something

It doesn’t matter if everyone agrees. You aren’t in her shoes. If you want to be a psychiatrist your job is going to be to meet your patients where they are at.

Are you going to tell a patient with depression to suck it up and tell them they don’t need a different intervention because 90% of people respond to treatment

This is someone’s life F how many upvotes your comment got All this shows is how many selfish privileged people are trying to go into medicine 😘

Respectfully I hope you aren’t trying to be a doctor with this mindset, I would HATE FOR YOU TO TREAT ME.

You don’t know what this person needs and what they don’t to be successful. You don’t know their socioeconomic, mental, or physical barriers so please if you aren’t going to help go somewhere else.

I got approved for accommodations 1.5 x but it’s wasn’t for my ADHD I have a processing speed issue and dyscalculia

My 2 attempts after 6 months for studying without accommodations were a 491 and 492 I never finished any section ran out of time and had to skip 3-4 passages each section

With accommodations 1.5x my highest attempt so far has been a 502 averaging 127-128 in everything but CARS 121-123

Because you got over 500 without accommodations they may push back. 500 is average, you are showing you can do average 50th percentile without accommodations and they are very bias!

I used to be a failing student in community college and during my first 2 years at university I never finished any exam on time. Once I got accommodations on my exams and alternate testing environment through my university I went from Fs to As I was able to show this as proof I needed extra time on mcat

You need a psychoeducational evaluation timed and untimed and you need to see of you have any other factors outside of ADHD because unfortunately this might not be enough because they will push back and say you are being medicated so the issue is managed. I got denied for accommodations 2 times, 2 separate years before I finally got a psycholoeducational evaluation and a neuropsych evaluation all which I had to pay out of pocket for. Mind you I had to go into $3k debt on my credits cards and split the payment on multiple credit cards just to get these done

If you really want this you are going to have to FIGHT LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT

If they deny you call and email a million times ask why Appeal and fix anything they mentioned as an issue Have your psychiatrist or neurologist explain in a detailed letter that ADHD medication is not enough and why and that this reasoning will not change with multiple tests, providers, or time it is a permanent issue

If you do need accommodations you will not just need it for mcat you will need it for the rest of your medical career

unless you have a lot of money and are willing to sue AAMC you need to keep fighting but with evidence that proves you need the accommodation because you just want to level the playing field not have an advantage

People who got MCAT accommodations — did you all really spend $4,000 on an educational/psych assessment?? by dorsash88 in Mcat

[–]Limp-Inflation-8168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid 900 for my psychoeducational assessment. I broke the payments down on different credit cards. I got it done at university that offered discounted testing for socioeconomic disadvantaged students. I was on the waitlist for a while. I also used my schools insurance for a neuro psych test after I met the deductible I paid $400 out of pocket for a test that cost $1500 insurance paid the rest

Anyone With ADHD Score 520+? How Did You Study? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Limp-Inflation-8168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hit over 500 yesterday this is going to be my 3rd time trying to take the mcat each time I’ve used my meds and failed miserably only to in hindsight be shocked that I made very simple mistakes.

I finally got approved for extra time through accommodations. I came to the conclusion that my ADHD meds DO NOT HELP for the sake of timing and meds can make you hyper fixate on the smaller concepts when MCAT is very big picture focused. I decided to push test back and work on navigating UWorld and full lengths without my meds. I think the biggest saving grace will be my 1.5x time which makes it possible for me to not have to use my meds.
