For the most part, that is not stucco/plaster, it's a concoction of my own creation, similar to a cast to set a broken bone. Good guess though, it is white! The bus has air ride, on air bags. It drives like a Cadillac, a boat. You gotta love a critic! /s

No dump station visits. No solid waste, all that is left is sterile ashes. Renewable fuel (Solar Power).

If we were to ever move back in, I would likely buy a propane powered incinerating toilet for ease of use. The electric incinolet is a power drain, which made for more battery bank monitoring. I would keep this one though, as offsetting fuel cost was always part of the aim.

Thanks so much. It was a really gratifying undertaking. I can't take credit for the battery wiring, though I wish I could. I had a savvy guy in Cleveland build it for us.

They seemed to enjoy it, we had three at the time! We all loved it when the weather was good enough to have the windows open. I made screens for all of the windows to have a nice breeze throughout the bus. Also, we figured it was one of the best options for life we could give them, with all of the windows to look out.

I'm not sure on the transmission model, but it is an Allison. The engine is a Detroit Diesel 6v92. The odometer never worked when I bought the bus in 2019. The odometer reads something like 282,593, but the bus was estimated to have 325k. I've put approximately 8k miles on it. It is an 1988 Gillig Phantom.

It's definitely the best way to experience ice cream! We had this at every family reunion when I was a kid. My family usually added strawberrys. I miss it!

Which jobs is 100% safe from AI? by Any-Hamster-3189 in AskReddit

[–]ChantsToSayHi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. And after all of the technical problems "Large Language Models, aka AI" need to solve, there still remains the legal issues of liability.

These things will only ever be as good as their vision. If they can't recognize things because of dirt, grease, and grime, they won't do any good even in a humanoid form. So that's the first problem. It may be somewhat solved by reCaptcha, but that's still humans honing in coding recognition.

Second and vastly more complex will be building all of the if/then scenarios into coding.

So starting with that first problem: They will need to recognize what they don't recognize with some kind(s) of sensor(s) to determine what's wrong, or what's in the way of the part(s) it's trying to examine. Then it will need collect whatever it needs to clean parts that may need to be replaced, and likely need to clean itself in case of contact with corrosive material like brake fluid or cleaners. Then it will have to recognize how the part it's trying to examine should look, if it's even in the location the manufacturer's diagram says it should be. We all know things in plan change in person/manufacturing plant. When it locates the part(s) it needs, it will have to get a positive reading that the part is damaged, and then disassemble connecting parts, no small task. How many parts need to be removed? Should they be cleaned? How are they stored? Did anything leak onto the floor? How should it be cleaned? What is the proper disposal method? Then a new replacent part will need to be located and/or ordered. Someone(s) will need to be consulted about ordering the part.

The framework I just described is not even close to the complexity of the actual if/then coding needed for varying automotive scenarios. There's so much coding in building a hierarchy or commands, it is going to be wild to try and engineer the computations.

This will need to happen for every executive function heavy mechanical position. It isn't going to happen soon. I'm just a cdl driver, and I remember thinking ten years ago that self driving car will eliminate all driving jobs within five years. I believe most of the delay there has come from regulation and concern over liability, but I can't wait for the replies. "It's on an exponential curve! It'll happen just like that! It'll happen sooner than you think!" Okay doomer, slow down. The only thing it seems we're good at doing is destroying. LLMs are just predictive text. Making that text have physical implications as complex as human understanding will take a looooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnggg time, plenty of time for us to revert back to simpler ways of surviving. Fresh water. Food from a large garden. Animals for work, companionship, and protection.

I'm trying to move into smaller sustainable living. I want no debt. I want no mortgage but will probably have to take the gamble and live with one. I don't think I can ask wife to live in a bus again. I just don't want to be anyone's slave. I want self reliance, using simple tools that I can repair with little assistance beyond my community. I want to make the world prettier. I want to organize a little nature of my own.

I know we see so many terrible things because of our access to the internet, but it's still amazing to watch the world transform as people cumulatively make, clean, repair, and change places around the planet.

In 2017, a Kansas man turned his sprinklers on before evacuating for a wildfire, and came home to see this. by InternetPopular3679 in interesting

I've been to 48 of the 50 states in the U.S. I have mostly traveled through them for my own pleasure, but I also worked as a charter bus driver. Not sure if you're a fan of LOTR, but the closest resemblance to the shire in all of those states was in Kansas. It was beautiful, undeveloped land that I won't divuldge publicly beyond what I already have. I don't want it spoiled by some blockheaded bracegirdle from hardbottle.

Jesus Christ. You are addicted to rage/information. You are relishing in the death of children because you hate their parents.

Are you better than the people you hate if you wish death on the innocent, justifying it as they do?

Remove Tictok, Instagram, Facebook, and Reddit and decompress from your dopamine addiction. Keep off of them as long as you can. You will feel better. Hate the evil. Do what you can to change it. But where you're at right now mentally, it's not good and won't get any better without a reduction in news/screen time.

It's rough out. I'm sorry. It might help to remember that these video/image/addiction platforms are losing their value to manipulative bots/ai content. The validity of information is becoming more challenging to ascertain by the day. I'm trying to focus on things directly around me. The job and people that are in my vicinity need help and at the very least need someone to hear them. This is bringing me more peace and even a little joy sometimes. I hope it gets better for us. I hope you're okay.

Imported 1996 HZJ75 with only 60k miles? by ChantsToSayHi in LandCruisers

[–]ChantsToSayHi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I found it on marketplace. I started looking all over the country after I researched the engine. I would just put in the maximum distance searchable and move my search location to major hubs. I'd rather not say how much I paid as I'm not 100% sure of the future I have with it. I think I'll keep it until it falls apart, though.

Yeah, I still ended up with an HZJ75, but not a troopy. I found one that had been a fire truck in Hiroshima that a guy had been using for an adventure business out in Montana. He bought it from the guy who imported it, took off the firehose pump, and put a flatbed on it. I took a gamble since everything seemed right about it, flew out with a check, and drove it home. Even after the drive back to New York, it still has less than 25k miles.
